One Tinley members said that they are committed to the role of Village In a six-way race for three fouryear terms with the Kirby School District 140 Board of Education, the LAS 4 KSD slate of incumbents swept the race in the Consolidated General Election the evening of April 2. Lisa Strand followed with 3,239 votes (24.29 percent), then Chuck Augustyniak with 3,206 votes (24.05 percent). George Kowalski finished fourth with 1,327 votes (9.06 percent), Ryan Long fifth with 1,208 votes (9.06 percent) and Rae Othman sixth with 1,099 votes (8.24 percent). “We worked hard for this with the teachers, with the community, with the parents. This was a big win for District 140,” Lutz said. “It was a district that really believes in good education. It wasn’t anything we anticipated. We worked very, very hard for this.” Strand said she did not expect the race to go one way or another, but “we are so very grateful for all of the support that has been given to us for the last several months.” On behalf of the Kirby Education Association, which is the teacher’s union, vice president Melissa Peterson endorsed the candidates in February. “We endorsed the slate because they showed a long-standing history of having kids’ needs first,” Peterson said. “They were very integral in making ethical decisions for our school district. They have been fiscally responsible with our district resources and they are really giving back to the community by being on the school board. They really feel that District 140 is an important piece of the community and this is how they have chosen to give back.” The slate believes that its message of quality education and a balanced budget is what spoke to the voters during this election. “It was inspiring to me that the community has that kind of confidence in our abilities at governance on the school board,” Augustyniak said. “Thank you for having confidence in us,” Lutz said. “We definitely appreciate it and we won’t let [the residents] down.” Lutz has seven grandchildren attending schools within Kirby School District 140, Strand has two children at an elementary school and two that are now in high school and Augustyniak had two children go through this district that are now in high school. trustee, they understand how important it is and understand how residents look up to the members on the board and deserve to have their questions answered, be respected and deserve the decisionmaking process to follow what’s best for the village. “We are fully committed to making those things happen.” Mueller said.
