in Lagos
for the
‘Next MTV
Shuga Star’
Following a success
ful series of seasons
since it’s Nigerian
premiere in 2013 which featured
former child star,
Sharon Ezeamaka, Timini
Egbuson and more, MTV
Shuga is set to return to Nigeria
for its fourth season.
Thousands of young talent
filled the grounds of the audition
venue – Classique
Events Centre Oregun, Ikeja
– on Thursday, 4 April, for
a shot at making the series,
which airs from September
2019.
By the time the casting doors
opened at Classique, many
who travelled from within
and outside Lagos State
had formed queues that
stretched for nearly two
kilometers.
Their eccentric fashion
choices, catchy hair
statements and colorful
costumes and nervous
chatters were a sight to
behold as they waited
to impress the panel of
judges which included
Nigerian Television &
Film Director, Tope
Oshin, Head Writer,
MTV Shuga Nigeria,
Kemi Adesoye, Nigerian
TV Producer &
Filmmaker Tolulope
Ajayi and Senior Producer,
MTV Staying
Alive Foundation,
Wyn Baptiste.
On hand to give encouragement
to the
auditionees were people
who were in their
shoes not too long ago
– Shuga stars and
MTV talents such as
Timini Egbuson, Jemima
Osunde, Bukola Oladipupo,
VJs Ehiz, Sammy
Walsh and Nenny B and
more, who turned up to
lend their support.

Malaria Day Walk on
April 27, 2019, with
Meditol crew, an antiseptic
soap brand from
the stable of the Evans
Industries.
This year, the Evans
Industries team alongside
Osas Ighodaro
Ajibade’s Joyful Joy
Foundation will walk
for the cause on Saturday
27th of April 2019.
The walk will give the company
and its partners the opportunity
to create awareness

It was an eye-opening epi
sode of MTV Base’s flagship
roundtable show ‘Musicology’
recently when some of the
biggest and brightest minds on the
Nigerian entertainment scene
were gathered to discuss the challenges
and future of the business.
One of the many problems discussed
during the enlightening
session is the nonchalant attitude
of artists toward their performances.
Speaking on this issue,
here’s what rapper, songwriter
and actor, Falz, said.
“Generally speaking, I feel standards
of events and concerts have
gone down. It’s almost like the consumer
takes whatever is thrown at
them. As a result, artistes have naturally
become lazy.”
Bayo Fatoba, Head West Africa (ULive
Africa), chimed in to further emphasize
Falz’s point by saying “We
believe in creating experiences for
artistes at ULive, it now depends on
how creative the artiste is, in accepting
what you have sold to them.”
Creativity, financial constraints,
quality control, consumer experience
and research were
some of the issues discussed at
the panel session. In order to arrive
at the solutions for these issues,
the panelists began the
journey to discovery by asking
some very important
questions.
One of the panelists
who asked many important
questions
was music industry
entrepreneur, Olisa
Adibua. During the
discussion about
creativity as it concerns
performances,
promotion and
ticket sales, Mr.
Adibua asked the
following “If from
January to November,
I see you at
everybody’s show popping
up here and there,
then you say in December
you want to do a concert,
why would I come to
watch you? What’s the
value you’re bringing?”
In March 2013, ace
comic Bovi debuted his
one-man stand-up
comedy special ‘Man on
Fire’, produced by Flytime
Promotions. The show was a
colossal success, promoting a
second edition which was held
in October, 2014, and a third
in May, 2017.
The comedy special showcased
Bovi’s unique style of observational
comedy, weaving relatable
stories and current affairs into
satire. Beyond Nigeria, the comedian
took the spirit of good cheer
people on the role mosquitoes
play in the spread of the
disease and ways to prevent
and cure malaria to help reduce
death rates.
With 219 million cases of
malaria in 2017, the sub Saharan
Africa has the highest
share of the global malaria
burden and mosquitoes are
the root cause of malaria. According
to the actress, this is
enough reason to combat the
scourge headlong.
‘My own pathetic story is
one I have to live with for life
because I lost a sister to the
dreaded disease. When my
sister died, she did not die
alone, she was pregnant and
we lost her and the baby she
was carrying. Such is the brutal
reality of malaria. It does
not discriminate, it can affect
anyone and anyone can be a
victim,’ she said.
Falz
Comedian, Bovi set for final edition
of ‘Man on Fire’ comedy show
to other cities like Toronto, London,
and New York, where his jokes were
met with the same level of delight and
enthusiasm.
After 6 years, Bovi is ready to put on
the biggest edition of the Man on Fire
special, for what we anticipate will be
the biggest greatest finale of the decade.
He is pulling out all the stops
and promises this finale will be a
show like none before.
The fourth and final edition of the
Man on Fire franchise will take place
on the 28th of April, 2019, at Eko Hotels
and Suites.
