Background & History<br />
MBR Publications limited have always wanted to<br />
organise something special and unique for the<br />
Gozitan business community. With this in mind,<br />
together with the support and backing of the<br />
Hon. Minister for <strong>Gozo</strong> Dr Justyne Caruana and<br />
her dedicated team headed by Director Esther<br />
Bajada, we came up with the idea to create a<br />
two day event which would showcase the best<br />
of <strong>Gozo</strong>’s businesses, including manufacturing,<br />
industry, agriculture, indigenous produce, tourism,<br />
create recruitment opportunities and act as a<br />
hub of business development and foster further<br />
investment. This business development event<br />
should attract a cross-section of all businesses,<br />
CEOs, business leaders, influencers, investors,<br />
business owners,entrepreneurs, students, marketing<br />
managers, business developers, the general public,<br />
constituted bodies and private<br />
organisations, technology and alternative energy<br />
corporates and other like-minded enthusiasts, and is<br />
also being supported by the <strong>Gozo</strong> Business Chamber.<br />

It is with pleasure that as Minister for <strong>Gozo</strong> I welcome the <strong>Gozo</strong> <strong>Expo</strong> <strong>2019</strong> to our islandregion.<br />
Gozitans are renowned for their great sense of entrepreneurship, their resilience<br />
and determination to succeed. With these remarkable qualities they led their families<br />
and the island to prosperity, turning adversities into opportunities, as the island forged<br />
ahead against a backdrop of national and international challenges.<br />
Skills and experience , determination and ambition in many fields of economic activity<br />
in <strong>Gozo</strong> have been the healthy components of an admirable economic expansion for the<br />
island’s economy in general. From a situation where <strong>Gozo</strong> depended for long decades<br />
on the country’s economic state, we have last year reached gross value-added levels,<br />
placing <strong>Gozo</strong> as a contributor of 4.2% to the national economy in recent years.<br />
Private entrepreneurship, strengthened by numerous financial measures and fiscal<br />
incentives by Government, are indeed a strong basis for economic growth. In turn this<br />
directly reflects positively on the social well-being of our families . The <strong>Gozo</strong> Ministry<br />
incessantly ensures that tailor-made measures are in place for small and medium<br />
enterprises to overcome the double insularity challenge towards a level playing-field for<br />
competitiveness.<br />
These economic and financial safeguards are coupled with a long list of strong<br />
investment in capital projects and accompanied by a flourishing activity that promotes<br />
<strong>Gozo</strong> as a distinct yearround destination that reached a record of six million passengers<br />
during 2018. The increasing success within the hospitality sector provide the necessary<br />
encouragement - both for the Ministry and the private sector - to strive further in the<br />
coming months and years.<br />

to the quality of the <strong>Gozo</strong> EXPO by effectively participating in the interchange, thus<br />
