Background & History

MBR Publications limited have always wanted to

organise something special and unique for the

Gozitan business community. With this in mind,

together with the support and backing of the

Hon. Minister for Gozo Dr Justyne Caruana and

her dedicated team headed by Director Esther

Bajada, we came up with the idea to create a

two day event which would showcase the best

of Gozo’s businesses, including manufacturing,

industry, agriculture, indigenous produce, tourism,

create recruitment opportunities and act as a

hub of business development and foster further

investment. This business development event

should attract a cross-section of all businesses,

CEOs, business leaders, influencers, investors,

business owners,entrepreneurs, students, marketing

managers, business developers, the general public,

constituted bodies and private

organisations, technology and alternative energy

corporates and other like-minded enthusiasts, and is

also being supported by the Gozo Business Chamber.

A 2-day B2B/B2C Trade Conference & Exhibition,

culminating in the grand gala evening presentation

of the Gozo Business Awards 2019 (GBA). Launch

of trade fair & exhibition on Friday 31st May at

10:00 -21:00hrs & 09:30-1300hrs Saturday 1st

June 2019 & Gozo Business Awards: 0730-2300hrs.

It is with pleasure that as Minister for Gozo I welcome the Gozo Expo 2019 to our islandregion.

Gozitans are renowned for their great sense of entrepreneurship, their resilience

and determination to succeed. With these remarkable qualities they led their families

and the island to prosperity, turning adversities into opportunities, as the island forged

ahead against a backdrop of national and international challenges.

Skills and experience , determination and ambition in many fields of economic activity

in Gozo have been the healthy components of an admirable economic expansion for the

island’s economy in general. From a situation where Gozo depended for long decades

on the country’s economic state, we have last year reached gross value-added levels,

placing Gozo as a contributor of 4.2% to the national economy in recent years.

Private entrepreneurship, strengthened by numerous financial measures and fiscal

incentives by Government, are indeed a strong basis for economic growth. In turn this

directly reflects positively on the social well-being of our families . The Gozo Ministry

incessantly ensures that tailor-made measures are in place for small and medium

enterprises to overcome the double insularity challenge towards a level playing-field for

competitiveness.

These economic and financial safeguards are coupled with a long list of strong

investment in capital projects and accompanied by a flourishing activity that promotes

Gozo as a distinct yearround destination that reached a record of six million passengers

during 2018. The increasing success within the hospitality sector provide the necessary

encouragement - both for the Ministry and the private sector - to strive further in the

coming months and years.

We encourage and recommend you dedicate your efforts to contribute substantially

to the quality of the Gozo EXPO by effectively participating in the interchange, thus

enhancing the professionalism of your organisation. I believe this high-profile event

can be one of the most productive we have had on in Gozo for a long time and our

participation will lead to important improvements that will positively impact the Gozitan
