Music from classic films at Wagnalls Memorial<br />
The Wagnalls Memorial, 150 E.<br />
Columbus St., Lithopolis) will present a<br />
free will offering piano concert performed<br />
by Laurence MacDonald on May 5 from 2-<br />
4 p.m.<br />
He will perform selections from classic<br />
films such as “Gone with the Wind” and<br />
“E.T.” as well as ragtime, Gershwin’s<br />
“Rhapsody in Blue,” and many other<br />
favorites.<br />
MacDonald spent most of his early life in<br />
Columbus, where he attended St. Mary<br />
Magdalene Catholic elementary school and<br />
St. Charles Borromeo Preparatory School.<br />
He received a bachelor degree cum laude in<br />
piano from The Ohio State University (1963)<br />
and a Master of Arts in Music History and<br />
Literature (OSU, 1966). He is a professor<br />
emeritus at C. S. Mott Community College,<br />
where he teaches a course he developed on<br />
the history of film music.<br />
In addition to his teaching career, he is<br />
also a performance pianist, a church choir<br />
director, a film critic and reviewer for<br />
newspapers and radio stations, and a published<br />
author. One of Laurence’s books,<br />
“100 Greatest Film Scores,” will be available<br />
