Big Things Come in Small Packages:
NanoScience
he word technology always sounds reassuring to me. And why wouldn’t it? We have utilized it in every aspect of our
Texistence. From printing footsteps on Moon to boiling water at our homes, we rely on the same. It helps us to move
from place to place, keeps us warm, provides safety from critical diseases and even protects us from ourselves. As
fascinating as it may sound, we cannot avoid the fact that we have become dependent on technology.
Therefore it is time we talk about the potential it has to resolve the major issues we face or are going to face in the future.
One of these major issues is lack of space. It may sound cliché but the issues regarding the same have become more evident
and their concern is only going to rise in future. How? Let’s retrieve some logic from the fact that world population is
growing at an alarming rate. Unfortunately, Thanos is merely a piece of fiction and there is no way we are getting rid of half
of the human race. Hence eventually, we are going to run out of inhabitable space.
The remaining issues such as health and sanitation, cleanliness and lack of resources are also raising concerns. So, the need
of the hour suggests that we must create tools that would help us optimize our resources. We need to build compact machines
that save more energy and materials that are more sustainable. But how are we going to attain that? Enter Nanotechnology.
Nanotechnology has proved its mettle in almost all the sectors. The fact that it operates on a primary scale of substances
which is atoms and molecules, it is likely that the technology can impact everything around us. One of the many benefits it
offers is its utilization in healthcare sector. There are several ways in which nanotechnology helps medical space do better.
The imaging and diagnostic tools have become more efficient and provide better results with great success rates. Moreover,
researchers are working on minimizing the risk of healthy tissues from cancer by encapsulating nanoparticles in therapeutics.

“ Nanotechnology, making
impossible, possible.
“
Shubham Khampariya
When it comes to sustaining the environment, clean energy becomes a popular choice. It is the need of the hour to develop
energy that is low on carbon footprint and is affordable to everyone. Nanoscience is making it possible by optimizing the
traditional methods. With the help of same, the efficiency of fuel production can be improved through better catalysis. Higher
efficiency combustion and decreased friction, which help vehicles perform effectively has become attainable with the help of
nanotechnology.
However, sustainability through Nanoscience is not just limited to efficient energy. The materials we use on daily basis have
also been upgraded with the help of Nano coating as it provides better quality and durability to the materials. Manufacturing
industries have also been benefited by Nanoscience. Automobile space, in specific has leveraged the technology to make
vehicles lightweight and strong, which also helps in fuel saving.
I personally believe it is still a long road for Nanotechnology. Its relevance with the world of technology goes down to
molecular levels and this gives it the potential to start from the roots. And so it is expected that much like every other
technology, It will contribute to make this world a better place.

Does anyone remember a time before the
Internet? Most of us have seen it, but it’s hard
to recreate it in our mind. It only exists in
long tales which we tell the young, tales of yesteryears
where life wasn’t occupied by technology. But we love
technology. And the next evolution of the Internet
would make the current time become another
yesteryear tale. What is this next Internet evolution?
It’s the Internet of Things.
We know that Internet is where we access relevant and
non-relevant information; connect with friends, peers,
companies, and customers; and utilize to conduct our
daily business and activities. So, what is the Internet of
Things or IoT? IoT is when the devices which we use
to connect and interact with Internet talk to each other.
‘Talk’ is exchange data among the devices with a view
to facilitating better solutions and faster processes.
16
March 2019|

Internet of Internet
Now, your smartphone can connect to
your television and laptop even when
they aren’t in the same room. You can
sync all your systems so that any
change done at one place would reflect
everywhere else.
“Where to?” Self-driving cars
around the corner!
The true essence of IoT comes out
when it is coupled with machine
learning. Fast forward into a world of
automation where self-driven cars
aren’t fiction. The system in your car
operates the engine, the sensors around
the vehicle, the breaking, and
everything else. It connects to the
cloud, observing the traffic and
weather patterns along the route you
are about to take. It auto adjusts to the
passing vehicles, all the while ensuring
the safety of its passengers.’
There have been some issues with this
as a couple of crashes being reported.
This tech can’t be forced live due to
market pressures as the cost of
mistakes is too high. Once autonomous
cars do hit the roads, they would have
to be perfect. But this isn’t more than a
couple of years away. For now, let’s
look at something that is already
running and showing great results.
‘How do we get there?” Perfect route
optimization is here!
We are used to having the best
products and fastest services. To make
this happen, people and goods must be
constant on the move somewhere or
the other. Be it from the manufacturers
to warehouses or distributors,
distributors to retailers, or directly to
the customer's door, there are a lot of
assets constantly moving.’
How is this logistics movement
managed, tracked, and directed?
Technology, like that of LogiNext,
tracks vehicles through GPS right from
the time they are loaded to the point
they finish their replenishment duties.
Delivery personnel and field agents
such as technicians, supervisors, sales
folks, etc. are tracked using their
smartphones. The agents use our app to
streamline their daily activities and
sync live information gathered onground
with their company’s central
system.
This tech is not just the need of the
hour; it’s what keeping the everexpanding
need for cost-friendly
logistics management in check.
Spiraling logistics costs arising from
increased volume movement with a
growing driver storage. Even the trend
of same day/next day deliveries means
that some vehicles are left
underutilized.
Sensors and trackers, backed by a base
machine learning based system, can
now help managers optimize the
capacities of their vehicles, assign the
right load to the right driver/delivery
associate, and eventually set the best
route devoid of traffic and other
bottlenecks to ensure on-time
deliveries.
Delivery route planning and
optimization, hence, is not just cutting
down costs, but also incentivizing
market evolution. Companies like
Amazon and Walmart can ensure better
customer service with timely deliveries
and end-to-end order tracking. This
helps create value for the customer, the
company, and the economy.
“What’s in the box?” Automated
warehousing streamlines it!
With the development of machine
learning backed logistics optimization,
companies are investing in large
distribution centers or warehouses.
Some high-value companies have
already part automated the operations
in these centers. As mentioned earlier,
the sheer increase in the volume of
goods moved nowadays means that the
lead time even at warehouses must be
shortened to the minimum.
If the order must reach a customer in a
day, it can’t really spend about half of
that at the center itself. The entire
sorting and allocation system is
automated. Some companies have even
robotized some mundane functions
within the warehouses.
“Do as I Say” Voice Controlled
Logistics Movement
We are well aware of the latest in
virtual assistants such as Alexa, Siri,
Google Home, etc. It's a handy way to
automate activities around yourself.
You can just ask Alexa to book a cab
while playing your favorite songs.
Google recently demonstrated proper
AI capable bots which could even have
impromptu conversations and book
appointments. The obvious extension
of this came with voice-controlled
logistics management. Using the same
ease of household directions, managers
can automate the planning of delivery
routes, dispatch shipments, tracking
vehicles, etc. using just their voice.
They can talk to the system and do all
of these things.
The idea is simple. IoT is going deeper
and deeper into our lives, not just how
we handle our phones, but also how we
handle our businesses. Above all, we
must remember that it’s only a tool. It's
how we use it that would define our
future.
his garage started to design, build and
operate ALD systems. He envisioned
larger-scale tools that could service
industrial sectors and scaled up his
vision from milligram scale to kiloton
per year high-throughput
manufacturing equipment. This
paradigm shift he brought to ALD has
now opened up dozens of new
potential markets for surface
engineering of industrial powders,
objects, and flats.
Quick Decision Making
From the beginning, Forge Nano has
had to be very resourceful and fast
moving. Early on, the company was
given two weeks’ notice that their core
patents were going to be abandoned by
the University of Colorado, who
owned them at the time, due to cost.
The founders, two poor graduate
students, had to move quickly to
negotiate assignment of those patents
to the company and come up with $10k
to pay lawyers and legal fees to keep
the patents moving through the system.
Since then the company has paid
special attention to IP timelines and
opportunities, leading to a very robust
patent position.
Having a technical CEO has also led to
many revelations about all of the core
business functions needed to run a
company. The resounding lesson
learned through trial and error has been
that you get what you pay for. Whether
it is employees, consultants, or legal
counsel, quality costs money but may
be cheaper in the end. Forge Nano
strives to hire and work with the best
people, across all disciplines. The same
viewpoint extends to customers as
well. Forge is building a world-class
customer base whose standards drive
the company to excellence. By
maintaining high expectations from itself and its partners,
the company has been able to raise over $20M in funding
and build a world class team that is disrupting several
markets simultaneously.
The Question of Scalability
According to Forge Nano, the two biggest challenges in
driving adoption of ALD nano-coatings were around
scalability and cost. ALD technology had been around for
more than 50 years but, other than the semiconductor space,
it was largely relegated to small-scale laboratory research.
This was in part due to the use of “temporal” ALD using a
fluidized bed reactor in which the powders stay in one place
and the coating materials are iteratively pulsed and purged
into and from the reactor.
This approach lacked the throughput and scalability to go to
larger volumes. Forge Nano instituted a paradigm shift to
“spatial” ALD in which the powder was now moved
through the system stage by stage with a much higher
throughput. This spatial approach along with process
innovation for maintaining homogeneity in the reactor
enabled scale up to tonnage. Similarly Forge Nano’s
process equipment does not require the same high degree of
vacuum and subsequently costs often associated with ALD.
The high throughput system design is highly capital
efficient on a $ per unit of material upgraded. These two
biggest challenges of scaling up the design and lowering the
cost have been addressed. The company is now focused on
demonstrating the efficacy of ALD in a growing number of
markets.
Exploring ALD
ALD offers the potential to nano-engineer the surfaces that
will enable the next generation of performance anywhere
surface properties can influence the performance of
particles or high surface area objects . There are literally
dozens of potential new market spaces in which ALD can
impart that next level of performance through surface
engineering of industrial powders and objects from
batteries, catalysts, and 3D printing to displays, pigments,
pharmaceuticals and space age materials.
Forge Nano’s sustainable core competency is in delivering
the flexible, commercial-scale machine architectures to
service the needs of a diverse set of markets, bolstered by
its in-house R&D and scale up capabilities for driving
innovation from the lab to the market.
Cliental Assessment
solution for materials challenges across several key
products needed for the cars of the future.” – Anonymous
Role of
Laboratory
Management
System
in Manufacturing Sectors
Management
InformationSystem
Even if an organization offers an outstanding
series of creative products, it has to ensure that
the quality is up to the mark. Being
compassionate about quality management is quite
essential for a business venture to become a promising
manufacturer. Thus, quality is more likely to be a
necessity rather than a want. It do plays a salient role in
supply chain that has strengthened manufacturer’s belief
of implicating information systems especially in
laboratories for quality inspections on finished products
and goods.
Similar to Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP),
Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
has brought a disruptive change in traditional methods of
supply-chain management. This technology acts as a
reporting tool which allows researchers to input and
store crucial data regarding the sample, such as schedule
records, test-sample tracks, and also sample’s
materialistic properties. Thus, it is quite obligatory for an
organization to implement an adequate information
system in an attempt to overrule all quality-related
issues. Also, it often utilizes barcode generation for
scanning in-process goods as well as finished products in
an attempt to consume less time.
Outlook on LIMS
Utilizing to its full-potential
LIMS operations customarily depend on the
manufacturer and its requirements. Yet, there is a
standard protocol on which the system mostly relies. It is
deliberately designed to monitor and function on the
various aspects of product quality management i.e.
sample management. It handles the detailed records of
each sample, and maintains accuracy in reducing the
possibilities of the information getting mixed up in labs.
LIMS maintains the record of each and every unit, from
a supplier to the researcher handling that sample. With
such systems, the information tracking gets quite easier
and could be fully automated, reducing the need for
laboratory administration.
20
March 2019|

Industry Lessons
Implementing LIMS for workflow
management aids a manufacturer to
streamline the decision making process
in the laboratory. The self-oriented
system can automatically assign
scientists regarding their tasks and even
suggests the type of instruments required
as per stated in the standard experiment
module. Once the testing is completed,
the system identifies and supplies the
sample for the further process. Besides,
many LIMS automatically cover ups
various processes such as maintenance,
inventory management and reporting. It
is often useful for the instruments like
centrifuges which generally face
countless wear and tear, leading to
equire calibration every month or after every 50 uses. A
manufacturer can improvise LIMS system, by including
additional calibration instruction sheet which can be
utilized by maintenance department thereafter.
Brief on Functions commonly found in LIMS
Reporting: Irrespective of any category, every sector
requires a prompt method to process out the reports.
Report helps organizations to analyze data and make
further decisions based on it. From the ’most used
instruments’ to ’lab-processing time’, it include all the
required information flow from one unit to other.
Through implementing LIMS, organizations take a
follow up and process audit trails of received
information from such units. Yet, the level of difficulty
varies with reports, as some may require higher custom
coding to run while other export on Adobe PDF and
MS-Word.
variations in the readings. Such variations not only affect
data analysis auditing but also, disrupt the calibration of
the instruments. The use of LIMS system might vary from
one organization to another, as the requirement of most of
the industries is quite different.
Equipment Calibration and Maintenance
No industry can afford a failure in the quality checks.
Thus, many organizations spend loads of monetary assets
over the laboratory maintenance and instruments
calibration. With the LIMS system, an organization can
surpass over unnecessary damages and
monetary-cuts in laboratory. Apart from that, LIMS
system must include maintenance records of the
instruments used in testing, in an attempt to perform
orderly preventive maintenance.
Due to the regular utilization, some instruments starts to
show distortion that further affect the tests results. In case
of depth micrometer, the instruction follows that it may
EMR/EHR: Electronic Health Records is separate
software, but some LIMSs includes EHR feature built-in
mostly including patient reception queries and billing
processes. Organizations mainly prefer on utilizing an
all-encompassing system instead of software with
singular capability. Integrating LIMS with such
functions facilitate clinics with huge benefits while
monitoring and maintaining a laboratory. It manages
every bit of aspects such as data tracking over time,
continuity in healthcare, reduced costs, gamut
information, technology of prescriptions and result
orientation.
Workflow Management: Automate workflows have often
become a trail in businesses due to its ability to maintain
a steady flow between various processes without any
extra human efforts. Instead of focusing more on
reducing work, it saves time taken for tasking
complicated tasks. Hiring or Installing LIMS aids one to
codify existing methods and procedures and could
delegate the decision-making to the software. Say, if
installed, it can take over on assigning jobs to scientists
22
March 2019|

Industry Lessons
and can also pick out instruments, as per requirement. It
only requires a strong command structure through which
LIMS can operate much deliberately.
ERP: Enterprise Resource Planning software attains
potential to manage inventory and like EHR, it is also
self-processing software. Collaboration or say,
integrating ERP into LIMSs is more favorable due to its
high allowance in monitoring alerts over low-supplies,
auto-calculation of storage capacity and location
management. Through implementing LIMSs, one can
surpass issues related to data transcription errors,
turnaround time, WIP status, and statistical analysis and
COA generation.
Aftermath of LIMS-integration in laboratories has been
witnessed to be more efficient and been claimed as a
reliable system by various manufacturers. Though the
digital transformation has never failed to surprise the
markets with its potential to bring out disruption, its
many fruitful benefits are yet to be explored. One of
such—mobile-friendly LIMS, is predicted to shift the
traditional laboratories by delivering more compact
experience to the manufacturers which sooner or later
going to be trail among the lab-owners and
manufacturers. Currently, it is focusing on improving
environmental, petrochemical, health-care,
bio-technology companies and R&D institutes.
passenger EVs run daily for around 10 hours and 2 hours,
respectively. Electrovaya’
s ultra-long life cycle technology
is extremely suitable for these kinds of application.
Compared to vehicles powered with fuel, Electrovaya
powered vehicles can function well within 24 hours every
day under extreme temperature conditions with annual
mileage of 20,000km.
Customers and Emerging Markets
Six Fortune 500 companies in the logistics, e-commerce
and manufacturing sectors have started using Electrovaya
batteries for their forklift trucks, Material Handling Electric
Vehicles (MHEV) and Automated guided vehicles (AGV).
This emerging market generated around $3.3 million of
revenue from battery-operated deliveries mainly from
Walmart from the January to March 2018. Also, additional
purchase orders of $2.3 million were placed last June 2018.
26
The current target markets are 1.5 million operational
MHEVs and approximately 160,000 new MHEVs placed in
North America last 2017 (Industrial Truck Association,
2017, Washington DC, USA).
Also, on 25th of July 2018, Electrovaya has successfully
delivered batteries to Walmart Canada’s distribution center.
This is a major milestone for Electrovaya and the Materials
Handling Industry, for it is one of the largest lithium-ion
installations in North America. Currently, Electrovaya’s
Lithium-ion batteries provide power to all MHEVs at this
distribution center.
Industry Outlook
Forklift truck sales in North America’s market continued
their unprecedented increase. The year 2017 marked the
third consecutive year of growth with more than 250,000
units sold, representing a 9.5% and 12.2% increase
compared to 2016 and 2015, respectively.
In addition, thousands to millions of electric powered
trucks are sold annually in the U.S. and worldwide. The
continuous increase in the number of battery-operated
trucks from the previous years’ shows the potential use and
lead of Electrovaya’s lithium-ion batteries in the trucking
industry.
To further introduce the technology and excellence of its
products and services to the world, Electrovaya joined the
Modex Expo 2018, which happened at Atlanta, GA. In this
occasion, the company showcased the lithium ion batteries
that are widely used in the materials handling sector.
Given the tremendous success of Electrovaya in the
previous years, what really sets it apart from the other
battery providers?
About the Author
Raj Das Gupta has worked with
Electrovaya previously as Director of
Research and later as Vice President of
Energy Storage. Raj is responsible for
managing and increasing Electrovaya’s
sales for both its stationary and
automotive energy storage systems, as
well as developing Electrovaya's
strategy for technology licensing and
business partnerships. Raj attended
Imperial College, London;
Massachusetts Institute of
Technology; and the University of
Cambridge, where he received his
Doctorate in Materials Science.
To elaborate on what makes it one of the leading brands for
powering electro-mobility, enumerated below are the
benefits from utilizing Electrovaya’s technology.
• Reduced costs and increased productivity of charging
Based on observation, there was an increase in the
productivity of the forklift truck drivers due to opportunistic
and fast charging. Lead acid battery can function for 8
hours but also needs to be charged for 8 hours. Meanwhile,
Electrovaya battery can be charged opportunistically during
break times, which increases its run time. The use of
advance connector system removed arching or any fire
hazards.
Ÿ Reduced maintenance costs
Electrovaya batteries do not require additional distilled
water, switching, cleaning and maintenance. These
advantages, made the maintenance costs of Electrovaya
batteries 59% cheaper than Lead acid batteries.
Ÿ Safety is our priority
Electrovaya batteries are built using the safest technology,
which has been continuously improved overtime. Once
installed, this battery can be recharged similar a cellular
phone. Hence, it removes the danger involved in removing
and handling of batteries, which are necessary in lead acid
battery charging.
Last year, no accidents were recorded on the usage on
forklift trucks with Electrovaya batteries.
Ÿ Capital expenditure
Lithium battery is always criticized about its high initial
cost, wherein Electrovaya battery system is twice the cost
of the lead acid batteries. However, Electrovaya batteries
last twice longer than lead acid batteries due its 9000 life
cycle. This is the result of the collective efforts of the
company’s engineers who filed more than 150 patents under
the Lithium cell technology. Therefore, after 6 years, the
total investments of both types of batteries are the same.
Also, if both batteries will be on a lease, the monthly lease
expenses will also be similar due to longer lease period on
Electrovaya batteries.
Future Perspective
Electrovaya’s vision is to be the leader in critical and highly
intensive applications. Its extensive line of products and
worldwide partnerships helps it to lead the industry. Aside
from the six Fortune 500 companies, MNCs have also
purchased from Electrovaya and many are still exploring
the benefits of using this technology in keeping their
companies transform and grow.
Reliability of Electrovaya
A testimony from the warehouse manager of a leading e-
commerce company stated that Electrovaya was very
efficient in switching the batteries, particularly in installing
the Lithium-ion batteries. Since then, the company has
reported reduced energy and maintenance costs, while there
was an increase in the labor productivity.
This shows that Electrovaya continues to be one of the
leading companies in this industry. Electrovaya has been
continuously providing unwavering high quality
technologies and services to the people since 1996.
For instance, Watering System Maintenance and Acid
Containment Spill Kit cost 135 USD annually for each
truck with lead acid batteries compared to Electrovaya
them that has grown up with great care, silent hope,
powerful expectations, hard work and a great vision: to
provide valuable products and create a multinational
presence by establishing a greener and environmental
friendly gift to our valuable property and health.
I believed in Nanotechnology from the very first time I
looked up to it and my company just like my dream
followed its universal course: upward and with increasing
trend. I hope that I offered to the nanotechnology awareness
a little push up hint in comparison to the vast worldwide
uprising usage in numerous application fields and our loyal
customers to continue inspiring our big dream.
Describe the experiences, achievements or lessons
learned that have shaped the journey of the company.
I strongly believe that sometimes you lose and sometimes
you learn. If you lose without learning, the disaster is
nearby. As the journey of this company is a life journey for
more than a decade for me and we both still alive, I assume
that many lessons have been quite healing for the overall
life span. The numerous disappointments and heart beating
mistakes happened, lessons learned, and we move on.
What are the challenges faced while providing
Nanotechnology solutions and how is ΝΑΝΟ4LIFE
serving to tackle them?
Nanotechnology spans to a vast applications’ field from
plain textile coatings to bio-science, genetics, chemistry and
|March 2019
medicine. As its expansion is faster than the public
awareness over Nano-scientific achievements, a great
barrier is the absence of knowledge about it which often can
lead to a negative perception of the nanotechnology as a
whole.
This universal obstacle together with a more demanding
financial investment on advertising for increasing
awareness, places the nanotechnology expansion a little bit
more difficult to be perceived as necessary in comparison
with other “daily needed” products. This exact same
problem we have faced and we continue to face in our
business, but we are constantly trying to overcome it with
information and social media tools for increasing the
awareness and the consequent demand.
What according to you could be the potential future of
Nanotechnology and how does NANO4LIFE envision
sustaining its competency?
As I have mentioned, not as an opinion but as a fact,
nanotechnology is being characterized as the second and
major technical revolution globally and although its
principles are known for a few decades now, just recently is
evolving with rapid steps and huge advancements. Its future
is yet to be discovered with thrilling and revolutionary
achievements and our basic aim is NANO4LIFE to be in
this boat.
As our first decade provided our sustainability with steady
growth, we are heading towards our best times by using our
gained expertise and by renewing our range with all the best
and top-quality coatings that our field can possibly offer.
The Next Frontier
of INNOVATION in the
Pharmaceutical
Industry
he pharmaceutical industry is passing through hopeful and turbulent times at the same time today. On one hand, the
Tindustry is facing rising opposition from customers who wish to pay as a single payer. On the other hand, great
innovations are helping pharmaceutical industry meet new customers to grow revenues. An example of the later
development is the digital mobile technology which helps the industry collect large amount of data to form an unparalleled
understanding of healthcare. Additionally, today the pharmaceutical industry is in a position to make a statement to the larger
public to seal its place as the ideal provider of healthcare in the long run. The Pharmaceutical industry can find a harmonious
balance between the turbulence and opportunities to claim the throne of a great healthcare provider with real innovation
today.
Currently, the healthcare industry focuses on R&D which can immediately be turned into products to earn revenues. An
example of this economic development is the large number of medical solutions available which treat common illnesses such
as cold, fever, headache, etc. and are usually available as over the counter medicine for patients. This economic activity is
governed by patients who pay as individuals. This economic model is in line with natural principles that advocate that selfinterest
is the motivator of economic activity and competition is the regulator. However, there is a new economic expectation
of patients which could better shape the future. If patients paid as a single payer, the government could invest in more R&D
tax dollars into the future in the form of grants or subsidies. Without the infusion of such investments, real innovation would
be difficult as real innovation requires companies to operate in the area of absolute uncertainty, which can be a nightmare
from the point of view of shareholders.
Untapped Innovative Opportunities
In the pharmaceutical sector, the natural economic forces have not yet found solution to deadly diseases like HIV, multiple
forms of cancers, and several others. The primary reason for true lifesaving innovation being expensive is that true innovation
operates in the territory of absolute uncertainty and hence one cannot set a timeline in principle in order to achieve desired
results. Furthermore, this is also the primary reason why deadly diseases which promise lucrative revenues may never see
real investment by individuals who are governed by self-interest. Individual self-interest leaves breathing space for Individual
desire for happiness and is likely to be susceptible to individual weaknesses. On the other hand, if companies received
funding for innovation through a legitimate public entity like the government, it could invest in innovation for the long term
growth of a society. Such collaboration would help the
pharmaceutical industry to find solutions that separate life
and death in a meaningful manner in the society. On the
other hand, the individual companies which find a solution
to grave illnesses can also monetize these innovations.
Some such trending innovations are mentioned below.
Precise Medicine
Today the Pharmaceutical industry faces stiff legal penalties
for overdosing a patient with a particular medicine. The
good news is soon doctors would gain access to genomes
which helps map out the individual medical history. This
makes it possible to deliver a perfect and precise dose of
medicine to a patient. Genome projects are gathering
momentum, largely due to an initiative of the Obama
administration, which gave the grant of $215 million to
Precision Medicine Initiative. Grants like these and
Precise Medicine
projects like these would make it possible to develop
personalized medical solutions which are near perfect for
all patients.
Data Gathering
It is important for doctors and medical researchers to have
access to real intelligent data in order to make objective
observations and produce insightful innovation. Such data
gathering and generation has become much easier thanks to
mobile apps. Today, several mobile phones include
technologies that can track movement, sense various health
indicators and measure the health of patients and provide
the data to doctors and researchers to better understand their
patients. Such data apps are making it possible to create
gene sequencing and live health monitoring, which could
have only been dreamt about in the past.
Articial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence (AI)
AI has become the guiding light for many industries. The
Pharmaceutical industry is not an exception to this rule.
Supercomputers and machine learning are making it
possible for researchers to detect patterns in genes, diseases
and respond to them with appropriate solutions at a blazing
quick speed. Many such AI projects are currently helping
the Pharmaceutical industry on the path of innovation. One
prime example of this technology in action is the IBM
Watson which has demonstrated learning capabilities and
absorbs millions of pages of medical literature to make the
industry reach the pinnacle of competitive success.
There are many more innovations which are reshaping the
future of the Pharmaceutical industry. Some of these
include 3D Printing, Nanotechnology, Virtual meetings
between doctors and patients, etc. Innovation is opening up
new doors of opportunities for every industry and
companies which follow the path of innovation will find a
golden arch to build a great future for them. However, it is
important for the industry to secure its long term interest by
positioning itself as the ideal provider of healthcare services
in the short run.
