Falcon Ranch News
With spring approaching, we will be starting the Yard of the Month
program for 2019. Rudy Reyes, Board Member and Mary Beth Jones,
Landscape Chairperson will be starting the selection process and
presenting the first award for 2019 in April.
This is a great opportunity for all of us to do our part in making our
Community the very best it can be. Here are some things we all can do to
show we take pride in our homes and the entire Community:
1. Keep your yard mowed, your flower gardens and landscape free of
weeds, remove any dead bushes and trees and remove brown foliage on
your bushes that may have developed over the winter months.
2. Back Yards matter. Respect your surrounding neighbors. Keep your back
yards mowed, remove any dirt or mold from your siding - general up keep is
appreciated. Yard and Landscape Services are posted in the Next-door Newsletter,
in the Falcon Ranch Website at www.falconranchhoa.com and the Falcon Ranch
Monthly Magazine. If you need assistance or know of a neighbor who may, please
contact Mary Beth Jones at 630-699-8272 or Rudy Reyes at 713-598-2967.
3. Trash and Recycling is collected every Tuesday and Trash only on
Friday. Please remember, to bring in your Trash cans the evening of Pick
Up. This is an easy way to make our Community look fresh and appealing.
4. If you mow your lawn after trash has been picked up, please keep the
bag of grass clippings in your garage until Trash Pickup Day. Again, an
easy way to improve the appearance of our Community.
5. If you must park on the street, please make sure you are not parked directly
behind a resident’s driveway. This makes it very difficult for the home owner
to back out of their driveways. Please do not park near the end of a block as
this deters traffic flow. It is also a safety issue with Children coming home
from school and getting off the bus. Limit parking to one side of the street.
Parking on both sides causes issues with traffic flow for normal size vehicles
not to mention Emergency vehicles such as Ambulances and Fire Trucks.
HOA Board Meetings
Many of our Falcon Ranch Homeowners have requested we move our
Falcon Ranch HOA Meetings to a different night, other than the fourth
Wednesday of the month. By popular demand, we moved our HOA
Board Meetings, to the fourth Tuesday of the month, starting in June
2018. The starting time of our HOA Meetings will still be at 6:30 PM. The
HOA Board Members and the Management from Spectrum Association
Management respect the wishes of our Falcon Ranch Homeowners.
Reporting Suspicious Activity
You may have noticed the constables patrolling our neighborhoods,
working to keep our community safer for everyone. The appearance of
constables has raised a question of what to do if you witness suspicious
activity. If you see something happening that is an emergency, please
call 911. If you see suspicious activities that are not emergencies, call the
Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office at 281-341-4665.
Do your duty as a pet owner! When you take your dog for a walk around
from becoming a threat and a nuisance to the safety and enjoyment for
Bunco Group
Are you interested in joining a really fun bunco group? We meet on the 1 st
Wednesday of each month, from 7-9:30 PM. Each of us host at our home
with a meal, cooked, catered ordered, it makes no difference, once a year.
Rather than each of us have to bring cash each month, the hostess pays
$75 and that covers her part for the year. This is a monthly commitment,
we depend on you showing up each month, so please don’t take this
decision lightly. We ask you to sub for 2 months, so we get to know each
other, see if we are all a good fit. Then we vote on you and you decide if
you like us, too! If this sounds like something you can commit to and be a
part of, please email Carolyn at texasgal6942@att.net.
Teenage Job Seekers
If you are between 12 and 18 and would like to be added to the
your name, birthdate (mo. & yr.), phone number, year you will graduate
and the name of your newsletter/subdivision. Check the list of jobs you
want on your form. Please make sure your email is correct, we send
emails in the summer to make sure all the info is still good and that you
want to stay on the list. If we do not hear back from you after 3 tries, we
will remove you from the list until we do. Must have parent(s) permission.
Residential & Commercial
Family Owned ! & Operated
Gardening Tips For May
Warm weather means our gardens and landscapes are growing fast.
Here are some tasks to keep your landscape beautiful and productive:
Flowers: Time to plant summer blooming perennials and annuals
including plumbago, zinnias, angelonia, purslane, lobularia,
sunflowers, yellow bells, pride of Barbados, duranta and bat-faced
cuphea.
Vegetables: May is a great time to plant, from seed or nursery plants,
okra, sweet potatoes, cucumbers, winter squash, pumpkins, basil,
peppers, lima beans, eggplant, garlic chives and Malabar greens. If
you don’t want to dedicate an area of your yard, consider planting
here and there in your flowerbeds. Edible landscaping is a popular
new trend!
Lawns: Water 1/2 to 1” of irrigation per week. A rain gauge or straight
sided container (such as a tuna fish can) will help you know how long
to run your irrigation system to apply 1/2”.
Weeding: Hand pull or hoe weeds while they are still young or better
yet, maintain a 3” layer of mulch in all vegetable and flowerbeds to
deter weeds from getting a start.
Pruning: Remove spent blooms on spring and summer annuals to
promote new blooms.
Fertilizing: Fertilize flowerbeds and vegetable gardens w/slow release
organic fertilizer.
Water: Deep soakings between rain events is better than frequent
light sprinkling.
Birds: Spring migration continues until mid-May. Clean bird feeders!
Replace water in bird baths to avoid creating mosquito breeding
spots.
Scouting News
Ella Hummeldorf earned her Gold Award in Girl Scouts
Ella Hummeldorf, a Sophmore at Tompkins High School, has earned her Gold Award in Girl Scouts. Ella is a member of Troop 127007 and has been a
Girl Scout since she was in Kindergarten. For her project, Ella built garden boxes with the help of her brothers and a group of Boy Scouts from Troop
1103 for Goddard Preschool in Cinco Ranch NW. Her inspiration for the garden boxes was her grandfather who is currently in bad health. Obesity is a
growing problem in America and Ella is hoping the new generation of kids will make better choices. Her goal was to educate young children on the
importance of eating healthy and how vegetables play a big part in that. She wanted to teach them about vegetables in a fun way so she created the
garden boxes, supplied starter seeds and tools. She hopes they will have fun watching them grow and will teach future generations about growing
vegetables and healthy eating. Her brother, Henry Hummeldorf, was a recent contestant on MasterChef Junior so she enlisted his help with some
recipes. Together they created a fun cookbook for the kids and Henry talked to the children about the recipes and how to make vegetables fun. Here
is a photo of Ella and Henry teaching the children and introducing them to their new gardens.
National Scavenger Hunt Day May 24th
What is a Scavenger Hunt? A scavenger hunt is a game in which
individuals or teams seek to find a number of specific items or perform
tasks, as given in a list. The goal is either to complete the list first or to
complete the list in the most creative manner. This game is usually
played in a manner where what you are searching for requires you to go
to certain places, certain homes or certain parts of a location. Scavenger
Hunt Games are popular all over the world and are enjoyed by group
organizations, at Holidays and fun parties.
Scavenger Hunts can be set up for any age group with any type of theme.
There can be Holiday themes such as Halloween or Christmas, there can
be food themes such as scavenger hunts for food ingredients as in baking
a pie. There can be scavenger hunts pertaining to getting a certain thing
accomplished first.
For example: “Pot A Plant Theme” - This would be considered a task game and
an item game. You would be seeking items to perform a small task at the end.
Your list should include all the things to completely pot up a plant. Such as. ...
a 1. plant, 2. soil, 3. pot, 4. watering can with water in it, 5. fertilizer. You would
have to collect each of these things or find each of these things from different
sources. (And NO you cannot buy any from the store, that is cheating). Once
your team makes it back with all the items you would then start potting up
your plant. Once done, the first team to water the plant would be the winner.
Katy Heroes Honored
by Teenagers
Students from Tompkins High School, Tays Junior High
and Woodcreek Junior High, have gathered together to
honor a number of Katy teachers, coaches and community
leaders who are ‘heroes’ to the young people.
A special dinner and awards presentation was held by the
youth who are all members of The Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-day Saints. Aged between 12 and 18, each of
them was inspired to choose one person who has had a
significant influence for good in their lives. The students
then personally invited their ‘hero’ to attend the dinner.
During the evening each of the youth gave a short speech
to introduce their hero and explain why they had had
such a significant impact on them.
Among the heroes was Danny Hill, Girls Program Director
at Albion Hurricanes FC. He was invited by Tompkins
Junior, Terin Graham. Terin also plays for the Tompkins
Varsity team, which is currently ranked number one in
the nation. She was thrilled to publicly thank Danny for
his incredible contribution to women’s soccer. Danny
commented, “I was very touched when Terin invited me to be honored at the dinner. The best part of our job is watching these kids grow into fantastic
young people. Terin always brings a smile to my face and when I stood there listening to her talk it gave me a great peace and understanding of why I
still do this job. Thank you Terin and family for believing in me all those years ago and your continued belief ever since.”
The purpose of the evening was to thank the many people in the community who sacrifice so much of their time and energy to guide and teach the
young people in Katy. Says Brad Tippetts, one of the leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Katy, “As a parent and leader, it can be
a scary proposition to send our kids into a world that at times is full of anger and selfishness. That’s why we’re so grateful for the many good people out
there who share in the responsibility of helping our kids grow into good, honorable adults and care enough to help build the type of character that will
make them good citizens and strong community members.”
Many of the students invited teachers, some brought Scout Leaders and one young man even invited his mom along to be his hero. There on the night were
Shetye Cypher, Tina Fairwell, Leanda Hunt, Stephanie Lewis, Todd McVey, Donald Artley, Dianne Kuper, Monti Marquez, Danny Hill, Amy Wernig, Marianne
Hudspeth, Ryleigh Gilpin, Amanda Robinson, Stephanie Mead, Holly Datwyler Ben Allsop, Mike Tinnell, Ann Batten-Bishop, Stacey Levin and Allan Ray.
As well as hosting the dinner and each making a speech, the youth played instruments and sang a choral number for invited guests.
