LEMONT BANK & TRUST,

COMMUNITY BANK
What do we love the most about this community? The people we
share it with! That’s why we support the families here, the local
businesses, and the charitable organizations too. Instead of just
providing banking solutions, we also take pride in giving back to
the people who work to make this area so great. Why? Because
this isn’t just home to us; it’s home to all of us. And, as a true
community bank, we know that when we all do our part, we can
help make Lemont and Homer Glen better for everyone.

Greetings from lemont
A WELCOME MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR
In serving in my first term as Mayor of the Village of Lemont, the Village Board and I have the pleasure to serve the residents of Lemont and meet, and
hopefully exceed, their expectations.
In the course of just two years, with the input of the citizens, we have accomplished many of the goals we set forth in providing an environment with the
best possible services in the most economical and efficient manner possible. We are on the path to providing a robust environment in which all home
and property values will continue to increase, and people are proud to call Lemont their home.
In addressing our economic development initiatives, we are, and will continue to make Lemont a robust and desirable community where businesses
flourish and where people work hard and play hard in our Village.
Located just 25 miles from downtown Chicago, Lemont residents enjoy the ideal balance between big city amenities and small town charm, with
easy access to world class attractions. The Heritage Corridor Metra line is accessible in downtown Lemont, making the commute to Chicago a breeze.
Interstates I-355 and I-55 provide convenient transportation from Lemont to the entire region.
As an Illinois & Michigan (I&M) Canal National Heritage Corridor community, Lemont’s roots date back to 1833 and the construction of the I&M Canal.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, throughout the downtown visitors find charming buildings that have been carefully preserved and
restored. Our community’s heritage is celebrated through many public art displays in our downtown.
Lemont offers many excellent shops, restaurants, a brewery and businesses to serve residents and visitors. Amenities such as state-of-the-art recreational
facilities and programs, top-performing schools, numerous festivals and events, and excellent outdoor recreation for biking, hiking, kayaking, canoeing
and fishing are all right here.
There is so much to explore right in our own backyard and I encourage you to look through the pages of the Heritage Corridor Business Alliance guide and
venture out to businesses and places and enjoy our scene.
We hope to see you around town, and be sure to check our Facebook page and website often for all the news and events going on around Lemont.
It’s not just a place to live in, work in or visit ~ it’s a place to experience.

Village History

HISTORIC
LEMONT
Lemont’s history sets us apart from other communities with a downtown
that dates back to the 1800’s with stories of yesteryear that would intrigue
even the novice history buff.
The digging of the Illinois & Michigan Canal began in 1836 and attracted
the early town pioneers with newly immigrated Irish, German, and
Scandinavians, along with French and English Canadian laborers who
came looking for a new life. While digging the canal, dolomite limestone
was discovered that led to the development of the stone quarries. This
became one of the chief building materials used in many landmark
buildings, including the Chicago Water Tower, Holy Name Cathedral and
the Illinois Capitol building in Springfield.
Now you can explore the Heritage Quarries Recreation Area, a 100-acre
nature park to hike, bike, picnic, bird watch, boat and fish, with a 6-mile
crushed stone marked trail. Take a guided tour of the quarry area in the
spring or fall with the Lemont Historical Society. Call 630-257-2972 for
available dates and times.
Our quaint downtown is on the National Register of Historic Place. Take
a guided tour with the Lemont Historical Society (call 630-257-2972)
and walk along the streets of the infamous Smokey Row strip, which was
wilder than Dodge City back in the bygone days. Pick up a self-guided
tour booklet and map at Smokey Row Antiques, 112 Stephen Street, and
discover the many preserved historic sites, charming limestone buildings,
murals and public art displays.
After your tour, experience the flavors and flair in our many one-of-akind
restaurants ready for any palate. Mingle with the locals at our mix of
longtime taverns and pubs. Shop in our distinctive boutiques and quaint
shops nestled within late 19th century buildings. And, if you’re up for it,
take a tour or have a craft beer at Pollyanna’s Brewing Company. Just relax
and enjoy our scene.
Enjoy Our Scene!

greetings from the village of homer glen
Greetings from the Village of Homer Glen!
I invite you to explore all our vibrant Village has to offer. The information
in this Community Guide will help you to fully enjoy Homer Glen, from
its convenient shopping and great restaurants to our outdoor
recreational and trail opportunities. From our helpful service businesses
to our beautiful countryside and local farm markets, Homer Glen has
something for everyone!
We are proud of the community we are creating and the progress we are
making to plan for our future. This year marks the opening of Phase One
of Heritage Park. The 100-acre park will be the Village Center for Homer
Glen. The Village looks forward to hosting several community events at
Heritage Park this year including the Homer Community Festival on
June 20-23.
Water and sanitary sewer main extensions to I-355 were recently
completed by the Village. Both IDOT and Will County are investing
significant dollars into Homer Glen road improvements over the next
several years. These infrastructure investments will help attract
economic development so that residents and businesses can continue
to enjoy a high level of service and convenience without any municipal
property tax for general operations.
I encourage you to shop and dine locally! The local sales tax revenue
generated by your purchases are reinvested directly into maintaining
and improving your community’s infrastructure and services. Shopping
locally shows your support of business owners who invest in our
community, contribute to our unique sense of place and sponsor many
worthy community events. Please consider your role and buy local first.
Please take advantage of our Village website, at www.homerglenil.org,
and follow us on Facebook for current news, resources and information
about Homer Glen. Village staff is ready to respond to your needs. For
assistance, please call Village Hall at (708) 301-0632.

Incorporated on April 17, 2001, the Village of Homer Glen is
strategically positioned in northeastern Will County, 25 miles
southwest of downtown Chicago. The I-355 Veteran’s Memorial
Tollway links I-55 south to I-80 on the western edge of the
community. Homer Glen is an upscale suburban gem offering a
unique blend of open space, beautiful residential developments
and vibrant commercial corridors with significant commercial
growth potential. Homer Glen is a community of 24,591 residents
with an average household income of $114,080. Residents have
a high educational attainment with 39% holding a Bachelor’s
or higher degree. Homer Glen is one of Will County’s largest
municipalities, currently encompassing approximately 22 square
miles with the opportunity to ultimately grow to about 25 square
miles. The Forest Preserve District of Will County has over 1,300
acres of land within the Village, providing a unique lifestyle
amenity to even include an equestrian trail.
Homer Glen is home to a variety of local businesses and nationally
recognized brands. Economic development activity is occurring
in the Village’s primary commercial corridors of 143rd Street,
159th Street and Bell Road. The State of Illinois and Will County
are investing over $200 million in ongoing and planned road
improvements to widen all three primary commercial corridors to
four lanes over the coming years. These roadway improvements,
needed to accommodate projected traffic increases, will further
enhance Homer Glen’s attractiveness for new development.
Economic Development
Attractive demographics, quality school districts, easy
transportation access, existing retailers and traffic counts make
Homer Glen an excellent choice for new businesses. Two access
points with the Veteran’s Memorial Tollway I-355, ongoing and
planned State and Will County road improvements and prime
land development opportunities will help drive interest in Homer
Glen for future business expansion and growth.
The Village’s strategic initiatives for economic development create
the foundation for balanced growth. The strategy envisions new
quality residential and commercial development that will build
on the community’s unique character and quality of life while
expanding the tax base to deliver support services and amenities.
The plan allows the Village to embrace growth along the high
traffic corridors while elsewhere preserving the open space, natural
resources and semi-rural character that make Homer Glen so
desirable.
The Village has streamlined and implemented business-friendly
Code and process improvements to support residential and
commercial growth opportunities. Village staff is proactive and ready
to assist new businesses considering Homer Glen as a location.
Please contact Village Hall to learn more about business and
development opportunities in Homer Glen.

2019 Community Resource Guide
Top 10 Reasons to Shop LOCAL!
27
1. Invest in your community. Shopping
local generates sales tax revenues that
directly finance public services, roads
and police protection.
2. Create and keep local jobs. Supporting
local businesses puts people to
work. Employees and self-employed
people, in turn, spend money in our
community, helping our local economy.
3. Do your part to help attract more new
stores. Retailers seek locations where
shoppers are already supporting
existing businesses. Your loyalty to
existing businesses helps to bring in
more new desirable stores, improving
your local shopping options.
4. Be a link in the chain that supports
community groups. Many local
businesses give back to the community
organizations and causes, with a
positive financial impact on our
entire community.
5. Save money! Save on fuel costs and the
wear and tear on your vehicle.
6. Find more time in your day. Shopping
locally is more convenient, saving your
valuable time.
7. Pay less tax on your purchases. Sales tax
rate is lower than area communities.
8. Get better service. Local business
owners care about knowing their
customers and survive by their
reputation, which means you get a
higher standard of service.
9. Help protect the environment. Shopping
local takes fewer resources, helping to
reduce our global footprint.
10. Embrace what makes us distinctive.
Your support of the communities’s
independently owned businesses is
critical to their survival and, in turn, will
attract more “indie” stores to open,
helping to keep and grow what makes
our communities unique.

LTHS serves about 3,700 students from the
communities of Crest Hill, Fairmont, Homer
Glen, Lockport, Homer Township and
Lockport Township.
LTHS has two campuses for one high
school. Central Campus opened in 1909
and today serves freshman students. East
Campus, which opened in 1964, serves
sophomores, juniors and seniors.
LTHS is known for its commitment to
academics, activities and athletics and the
achievement of its students in all three
areas. An extensive curriculum and an
experienced faculty provide the finest
academic opportunities for all students. A
recent addition to East Campus, along with
the technological upgrades that followed,
gives students an unparalleled opportunity
to utilize the most cutting-edge technology
available.
This mix of historic significance and
futuristic technology that students are
exposed to at our campuses gives them a
unique advantage not available in other
districts: two distinct buildings with the
same goal of creating a nurturing and
challenging environment in which all
students achieve success.
In 2016-17, Lockport Township High
School has continued previous years
trend of positive growth in ACT composite
scores, Advanced Placement scores, fouryear
graduation rate, and freshmen on
track.
Some of the highlights include:
••
ACT composite score of 22.1 (LTHS high)
••
Advanced Placement
••
Total AP exams 1018 (LTHS high)
••
85.3 % of test takers scored
a 3 or better (LTHS high)
Graduation Rate 94% (up from 90%)
••
Black students improved to 91% (LTHS
high)
••
Hispanic students improved to 93%
(LTHS high)
••

CITGO is
FUELING GOOD THINGS
IN THE Chicagoland Area.
The CITGO Lemont Refinery is proud to be a
contributor to Will County’s progress. Our more than
800 local full-time and contract refinery employees
produce high quality fuels for a network of nearly
5,300 locally-owned CITGO stations across the
country, and they also make a major positive impact
on the community. Each year, more than 2,300
volunteer hours and thousands of dollars are given
in support of community programs such as Muscular
Dystrophy Association, United Way, and a variety
of environmental and preservation programs.

As a proud Homer Glen resident and homeowner no one understands the local market better or
cares more about the value of your home than I do. It has been my privilege and honor to serve
the residents and community of Homer Glen over the past several years and, as a result of this
localized focus, I have managed to sell more homes in Homer Glen over the past three years than
any other realtor.*
Due to the recent consolidation of the Homer and Lemont chambers into the Heritage Corridor
Business Alliance, and with the recent growth of our sales team, the Dan Kenney Group now has
the resources to serve a wider audience. We are very proud to announce that our team will now
be serving the residents and homeowners in our neighboring village of Lemont as well. We are very
excited to be bringing the same care, diligence and professionalism to the residents of Lemont and
we look forward serving the Lemont and Homer Glen community for many years to come.
- Dan Kenney, Broker, Homer Glen Resident
Proudly serving the
