Elijah Welter
It’s Too Late For a Beat Poem
Black wire trick traps trolley through
gardens of the spring, shouting Kafka at the pedestrians,
walking flowers wilting along the pavement.
The metal-bellied stoplight tips its hat,
I see you, hello.
We move across concrete
derelict and licked by wind,
wet and drunk on weather.
I wait for you, and for the bill.
