Note From The Writers

When I first heard that I had

to write whole magazine

from my teacher I was

dumbfounded. I didn't know

what I wanted to write, how

I wanted to do it and who I

should be partners with...

-Alanna Wilson

Then I showed up and

suggested that we do a

magazine about life hacks

and teen things because we

understand the struggles of

being a teen. We decided

then, that we were going to

make a life hack magazine

to make teen life a little

bit easier.

-Julia Weist

Then later on I joined the

group. I thought it was a

good idea and would be fun,

and here we are. . .

-Alli Withers

But we didn’t just write about

life hacks, we wrote about

helping our environment and

fun places to visit on a trip. All

these things are important to

teens but most people don’t

know.

We Are Drowning In Plastic!!!

While plastic has many valuable uses, we

have become addicted to single-use or

disposable plastic — with severe

environmental consequences.Researchers

estimate that more than 8.3 billion tonnes of

plastic has been produced since the early

1950’s. About 60% of that plastic has ended

up in either a landfill or the natural

environment.

Every year more

than 100,000 sea

animals die due to

plastic pollution

in water

Garbage

Patches

Plastic problems?

Here’s what you can do!

Kids these day are packed full of stress with

tests, exams, and social media. Here is one

way you can get rid of that stress while

saving money and the environment.

According to goole,

Garbage patches

are large areas of

the ocean where

litter, fishing gear,

and other debris -

known as marine

debris - collects.

They are formed by

rotating ocean

currents called

“gyres.”

ORBEEZ

Our first item is a simple yet amazing

item, it’s a orbeez stress ball. What you

need is a old balloon that has deflated

and some orbeez,

1. untie the balloon (notice how it’s all

stretched, that’s perfect!)

2. Now fill the balloon with the

orbeez BAM! Stress relief item

number one done.

Stress balls can help students and

adults everywhere, from helping them

focus when a teacher is talking to help

them prepare for that meeting. Stress

balls have been known to even help kids

with ADD or ADHD.

#DIY

It’s easy and yummy! You put some

water or sprite in an ice cube mold,

put in your choice of fruit, freeze,

then BAM a yummy treat to put in

your summer drink.

It’s fun and cute! You glue the

buttons to the balloon, let the glue

dry, and then pop the balloon.

WOW! A super easy DIY button

bowl.

13

FAILS!

Although this is a good, cute,

and healthy idea. The

blueberries burst under the

pressure of the water

freezing, and we can’t lie,

they look nasty and they are

no longer a cute addition to

your water.

So It might of just been a user

error and the type of glue used, but

personally I don’t think this is

easier than just buying a bowl.

Scrabble letter coasters.

Do you need a coaster? Or maybe just a

nice gift to give to someone?

Then follow these easy steps to create

your own custom coaster.

First you pick out the letters to

form the words you want.

Then you glue the sides of your

letters together.

Next you wait for it to dry and BAM!

Now you have a brand new coaster!

Next get the string color you

picked out, wrap it around

your hand, tie it through the

middle, then cut the sides.

33

Pom-Pom Rug

Is your old, boring, and bland rug

taking away from your beautiful

room? Then get some string, a rug

pad, and some siccors.

First cut your rug pad

to the desired size.

2.)

Repeat until you have

enough pom-poms to

make your rug, then tie

the pom-poms to your

rug pad. DONE! Fun right?

3.)

Now, this one is a little bit more

complicated, but you can do it!

Sugar string egg

First, Blow up a balloon to the size you

want.

Wrap colored sting around your

balloon. (This color WILL be visible in

the end)

Next, mix 1 cup of sugar with ½ cup of

warm water till the sugar is dissolved, the

texture will be think and glossy.

Dip the string covered balloon in the sugar

mixture, then let it dry, this can take up 24 hours

depending on how big your balloon is.

Last, Pop the balloon and

carefully pull it out of the string

cage.

WOW! You should be proud of

yourself for doing this one.

Recycled flower vase

Fist get a bottle of your

some designs, write some

words, it’s up to you.

Once your done painting let it dry and

then put your flowers in it. (It could also

Recycling

Recycling is a very

important thing for the

world. Most plastic that

doesn't get recycled goes

into the oceans or

habitats for some of your

favorite animals homes.

According to The New

York Times” In recent

months, in fact,

thousands of tons of

material left curbside for

recycling in dozens of

American cities and

towns” . Some of that

curbside trash could have

ended up into the oceans

and polluted many areas

in the US. So taking an

extra second to recycle

could save many.

Effects of pollution

There are many effects of

plastic pollution. Plastic

pollution has a direct and

deadly effect on wildlife.

Thousand of animals die

because they indigest

plastic or they get tangled

in the plastic and they can

not move or swim.

According to Center For

Biology

Diversity

“Thousands of animals,

from small finches to blue

whales, die grisly deaths

from eating and getting

caught in plastic.” If more

people would recycle we

could save more animals

from a sad death to a

simple thing called plastic.

39

How to fix it

There are many ways you could

fix plastic pollution. Millions of

plastic pollution ends up in the

ocean each year. Humans could

reduce that amount by using

reusable water bottle or grocery

bags. You could also recycle,

according to NRDC “It seems

obvious, but we’re not doing a

great job of it. For example, less

than 14 percent of plastic

packaging is recycled”. We could

increase that number by just

simply recycling.

Recycling crafts

40

80 percent of teens have anxiety.

Crafts decrease their stress levels

and anxiety, it allows them to

forget about it and focus on

something else. According to

healthline “ Being wholly

focused on a craft project can

have an effect similar to

meditation, which research

suggests can help in the

management of anxiety and

depression.” while doing crafts

you could recycle plastic or paper

around the house. You could use

old clothes and cut them up to

make a blanket. You could use

plastic bottles and make pencil

holders. Let your imagination

run wild.
