BUNDANOON

A Bundanoon Community Association Event

6-13 JULY 2019

BUNDANOON’S WEEK-LONG CELEBRATION OF WINTER

The days are short. The trees are bare. You can barely move

for all the layers you’re wearing to keep out the chill. How

long is it until Spring? But Winter in the Highlands can be one

of the loveliest seasons with it’s own pleasures to be enjoy:

the sharp clarity of the light, the crispness of the air, the

simple pleasure of coming in from the cold to warm yourself

in front of a blazing fire. And of course, there’s Bundanoon’s

Winterfest. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, a child or a

child at heart, we have an event or workshop for you to enjoy.

Our six day program has a strong focus on things to do for

kids during the first week of the school holidays, but we also have loads

of opportunities for people of all ages to get out of the house, make

new friends and learn something new. The signature event is Winterfest

Opening Night on Saturday 6 July, a family-friendly gathering

where the community comes together to mingle by the light

of braziers, enjoy hearty food and warming drinks, and have

fun with great music and activities for children and grown-ups

alike. At the other end of the week, the Bundanoon Rebels

Football Club hosts the Farewell to Winterfest Bonfire with

more music, food and fun. In between we’ve got more than

forty workshops and events including the not-to-be-missed

Dead Men Talking on Friday night, when Max Cullen and

Warren Fahey bring Banjo Paterson and Henry Lawson to life

on the Soldiers’ Memorial Hall stage. So come on... grab the kids, rug up

well and get out and experience the frosty delights of a Highlands winter at

Bundanoon’s Winterfest.

5.00 – 9.30PM WINTERFEST OPENING NIGHT

Railway Avenue For everyone | Gold Coin Donation

It’s the biggest party in the Southern Highlands!

From 5.00pm to 9.30pm Railway Avenue is closed

to traffi c and transformed into a fairground complete

with rides and other amusements, music, lights,

and a wide variety of food and beverage vendors,

many supporting local community organisations and

businesses.

The gold coin you donate on entry will help us stage

the event in 2020.

The ice rink (sponsored by The Village Grocer &

Store) will be back—and yes, it’ll be ready to go at

5pm sharp! It’s only $5 to skate for as long as your

legs will hold you up. Also returning is the Winterfest

Photobooth (sponsored by Potters Pantry) with fun

props so you can make a proper goose of yourself! It’s free. Why not test your

endurance on the bucking bull (it’ll only cost you a gold coin to ride).

The performance stage will feature music from Sydney based duo Robert

O’Brien and Georgia McCarthy Boy.Girl, local bush band Paddy’s River, and Big

Sky Mountain, a seven-piece all-female group with a sound that’s a little bit

Norah Jones with a hint of the Eagles.

Around 25 stalls will line Railway Avenue, providing delicious and warming

food and drink for everyone, including the traditional Winterfest mulled wine

supplied by the Bundanoon Lions Club. All will be in plentiful supply! As well,

many of the Railway Avenue eateries will be open, offering their usual fare as

well as warm respite from the cold.

There’ll be plenty of other fun stuff for the kids to do too. They can head over

to the Potters Pantry cafe for free hands-on cookie decorating, or get creative

and leave their mark on the Winterfest Wonder Wall outside. The Soldiers

Memorial Hall will be transformed into the Winterfest No-Chill Zone—a spot for

anyone to take a break from the arctic temperatures outside, with chairs and

tables, as well as face-painting, storytelling, a place to colour-in, and glowsticks

to buy. A coffee seller will be set up in a caravan outside. There’ll also

be two performances by The Magic Jester in the Supper Room (at 5.30pm

and 6.30pm) for the young ‘uns. Watch out for Gracey’s Amazing Suitcase, a

wandering minstrel who’ll keep everyone entertained in the main Hall. A gold

coin grants access to it all. Enter via the main doors.

Putting a festival like Winterfest together is a complex, expensive enterprise. It simply couldn’t happen

without signifi cant contributions from a great many people, including sponsors and advertisers, venue

managers, workshop presenters, and, most importantly, a team of hard-working volunteers. The

Bundanoon Community Association would like to take this opportunity to thank those businesses and other

organisations for their generous support of this year’s festival. We would like to especially thank the 2019

Winterfest Organising Committee who toil for many months to create a diverse and interesting program and

who ensure the smooth running of all the events. Thank you to Lyndell Giuliano, Kerry Goulding, Di Gray,

Sarah and James Potter, Thea and Stephen Evans, James and Jodie Fulford-Talbot, Heather Turner, Kevin

and Vicky Willacy, and our convenor Kaz Williams—without all of you there is no Winterfest.
