NEXUS IN! SIDE

Gaël Escribe
DEAR NEXUS FRIENDS,
If I were to use two words to sum up a key theme of this issue of IN!SIDE it would be ‘making connections’.
Already this year we have held Connecting Days in Latin America, India and Turkey. More will
follow in the coming months, including Dubai, China and Central Europe.
We will be making connections when we exhibit at Equip Auto Paris in October, followed by the
NEXUSAUTO tour in France. And we have been busy working on CON!NECT 2.0, an upgrade of our
unique NEXUS connections tool in collaboration with a project team composed of selected N! members
and suppliers. We are currently working on a lot of digital tools and services. This is in keeping
with the increasing digitalisation of the aftermarket.
5
I am pleased to say that work on the N! Truck app project that we announced at N!BF 2019 is progressing
well, and we should be in a position to launch it in September.
There is news of all these initiatives in this edition of IN!SIDE, along with updates on the latest developments
for the N! Academy and the workshop concepts, NEXUSAUTO and NEXUSTRUCK.
All of the above are examples of how we are continually looking to strengthen our business services
to support you, N! members and suppliers, in established consolidated markets as well as emerging ones.
I hope you enjoy reading this edition of IN!SIDE.
Kind regards,
Gaël Escribe
IN!SIGHT
News, case studies, in-depth analysis .. this is IN!SIGHT, a blog developed
by the NEXUS Automotive Community with the aim of sharing information
within the aftermarket world. The website is open to all who are passionate
about automotive and heavy duty. NEXUS is continually delivering information
and innovative services, and the blog will be another way of
keeping you informed. N! Suppliers will also be contributing, providing
insights, trends and interviews. Click, read and share on your social networks.
Let’s make The NEXUS Community the voice of the aftermarket!
43
NEXUS IN! SIDE

IN!SIGHT
Marketplace, telematics, connected vehicle, we are all aware of these new aftermarket trends. Technology is shaping
the future of the aftermarket and the New Year will be again marked by it. Especially, it is the customer expectation
which is changing generating a disruption of the value chain, a transformation in end consumer access and a shift in
profit pools. As first article of the IN!SIGHT blog, we talk about the aftermarket megatrends with the NEXUS CEO, Gael
Escribe.
Following the automotive aftermarket megatrends, what is NEXUS position regarding the consolidation of
the aftermarket?
Consolidation is progressing and transforming the aftermarket landscape. In the last two years we saw acquisition
and merging activities among large automotive suppliers and distribution networks which created
opportunities but also some concerns. More consolidation leads automatically to the creation of new distributions
approaches to the market and to more investment capacities. NEXUS is entertaining an open dialogue
with all the aftermarket actors: car makers, suppliers, repair network, online networks, distributors, etc. We
believe that consolidation can be both a threat for our Members, not being able to reach critical size, but also
an attractive occasion to grow and generate values. We are therefore always ready to support our community
to help them on their strategic initiatives.
44
What is your strategy to face the digitalization of the market?
One of the three NEXUS pillars is “Innovation” as we work on strategies aimed at simplifying our community
daily life but also to increase their growth and business. Digitalization / digitization are somehow synonymous
of innovation. Through digitization we saw that a significant impact was on the disruption process, creating a
new way to distribute parts and to avoid fragmented markets. We have launched an online platform, www.
marketparts.com, with the aim at giving as much opportunities as possible to our community, to be part of the
change in the aftermarket panorama. “In order to provide a full community experience, we have also created
IT tools such as the digital NEXUS Contact Book 2.0 or the NEXUS App -for our annual congress- that enables
real-time communication between members and suppliers. CON!NECT 2.0 was created in 2016, and it is an intranet
platform to connect our global community in one click. We are currently working on an upgrade of it. All
the actions that we take are aimed at simplifying and boasting all our projects, from the N! Academy trainings
to the NEXUS workshop networks. Everything is connected and we can’t leave behind any single elements.
And what about mobility? Is NEXUS involved to face this trend?
We are aware that mobility is changing, especially in Europe, but also globally speaking. Mobility is impacting
the aftermarket and therefore vehicle usage and maintenance. Despite the average age of the cars is significantly
increasing, the shift from parts to services is in process causing a more professional and less fragmented
aftermarket service model. Here, to win the game, education is at stake and the N! Academy trainings are
designed to embrace the opportunities and challenges of mobility to better train and prepare the NEXUS
community. NEXUS has established as well a N! Telematics project team which is already actively involved and
have met major players in connected vehicle technology, to have a global overview of the connected vehicle
for tomorrow in term of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.
IN!SIGHT
A high-performing Senior Sales Executive (EMEA region) with over 20 years of experience in the international Automotive
Aftermarket with special emphasis in the Commercial Vehicle Independent Aftermarket. Results driven, he has an analytical
mindset and strong international team leadership skills. Holder of a Master’s degree in Engineering and a Diploma in Management
and Marketing. Today, he is a NEXUS global business developer for the heavy duty sector. Janusz speaks fluent
English, German, Polish and Russian and is a ski instructor and an Alfa Romeo classic car enthusiast.
Janusz Zielinski, NEXUS Heavy Duty business developer, provides an insight into his experience and the trends
shaping the future for the Trucks industry.
Janusz, your curriculum seems to be 100% truck driven. Can you tell us more about your experience within the
heavy duty sector? I was always fascinated by the automotive industry and I started my career more than 25
years ago becoming an expert in the heavy duty aftermarket. I started at the RVI Dealer network in Poland,
switched to Schaeffler in Poland (Hd clutch & steering components), Sales and business development. In the last
13 years I worked at Meritor as sales and business development seniors EMEA.
Given your professional experience, what kind of transformation have you seen in this sector?
First of all, market consolidation; big players starting to become international, creating unique structures together
with other global organizations also in the truck industry. The distribution model also began to look
more like the Passenger Car business, eliminating small’s shops and directly delivering to fleets and workshops.
During these years, the trend at a regional level has moved towards more big fleets with over 1,000 units and
less fleet owners. Also, the demand for quality parts has increased and the private label model has become
more popular for accessories and commodity products.
45
Given the trend, what do you think are the main changes which we will see in the coming years?
The market is evolving globally for both sectors, heavy duty and passenger cars, with the same dynamics. For
heavy duty spare parts distributors there will be stronger globalization and market consolidation, there will
also be digitalization of the distribution business. New environmental laws are also affecting the market, especially
within cities with the electrification of buses and small trucks. For long-distance trucks and vans, new
modern technologies, especially for diesel engines, will see a strong focus on cost per kilometer reduction to
increase profit for fleets.
Do you think that NEXUS is prepared to face these challenges?
NEXUS understands market trends very well and is able to react very quickly. We are developing solutions for
the heavy duty sector for e-vehicles of the future and are continually looking for new partners who are experts
in parts supply and delivery, diagnostic tooling, and software and technical knowledge.
NEXUS is also at the forefront in digitalization, e-commerce and new web-shop channels and will continue to
develop innovative strategies to be a step ahead in the market and anticipate the changes.
Classic cars are becoming more and more popular with heritage-loving motorists, attracting some of the automotive
industry’s major players to this section of the aftermarket.
Benjamin Abitbol, NEXUS Business Developer for French speaking countries, who is also the founder of Renovatio, a
start-up business supplying spare parts for classic cars, discusses the growing interest in these ‘grand old ladies of the
road’.
46
What are the trends in the classic car aftermarket?
For a long time the classic car market was considered to be small, populated by knowledgeable enthusiasts who
only drove a few miles per year. But over the past 5 to 7 years this market has expanded progressively, both in
size and in levels of interest.
There are several reasons for this expansion – car makers have been looking backwards for their design and
style strategies, increasingly technology on modern cars has resulted in a lesser driving experience and there has
been a general trend towards all things ‘vintage’. All this has created more reasons to drive.
In addition, cars from the 1980s and 1990s have ‘come of age’, now being old enough to be considered rare.
The people who drove them are now aged 40 to 45-years-old, we call them ‘young-timers’, as opposed to
‘old-timers’.
The choice available to these ‘young-timers’ is much wider. There were more models and more production in
the 1980s compared to the 1960s.
Also, prices have remained low on average compared to the collector cars from the ‘60s. Plus, cars from this
period can be driven, almost daily, as they are safe with reasonable fuel consumption and relatively low maintenance
is required.
As a result, the classic car parc now represents 13 million cars in Europe! It is no longer small and the demand
for aftermarket classic car parts is growing by 10 to 15% per year, depending on which country you are in.
In Europe, the main countries are Germany, France, the UK, Italy, Netherlands and Belgium, but we also notice
interest growing in Portugal, Spain and Poland.
What is Renovatio?
Renovatio Automotive is a start-up business in the aftermarket industry, 100% focused on classic cars.
As we have seen, there is a steadily growing appetite for classic cars. But even though there are more classic cars
running, the market is still fragmented. Everyone must manage things themselves and constantly look for new
solutions, both private individuals and professionals alike.
In a worst case scenario, a lack of spare parts means that certain classic cars can no longer be driven. This is why
we created Renovatio, which means ‘revival’ or ‘rebirth’ in Latin. And this is just the idea: to revive these classics
thanks to modern digital tools.
Our strapline – the future of Classics, expresses it: our mission is to develop innovative tools, deploy unique and
disruptive concepts, with the objective to structure the today’s fragmented market. These include:
www.Bakelit.eu, the first digital marketplace dedicated to classic car parts, and a community platform offering
services for classic car enthusiasts
Pro Classic is the first group of distributors specialized in classic car parts
And more complementary activities are to be deployed over the next 3 years.
Ultimately, our aim is to be the leading parts and services operator for the classic car community in Europe.
Renovatio supports aftermarket suppliers through its web platform and face-to-face initiatives. We do this by:
Offering ranges and products for all brands and all vehicles from the 1940s to the 1990s, both for ‘old-timers’
and ‘young-timers’
NEXUS IN! SIDE

Promoting aftermarket brands related to brand heritage, while still offering value and quality.
Adopting a qualitative approach and using modern tools, we offer aftermarket suppliers the opportunity to
participate in the structuring of a new, accessible market
Where will you focus your activity?
Our team has a twin focus on Bakelit.eu and the Pro Classic network development. www.Bakelit.eustarted in
September 2018 and currently has 400 visitors per day. The new webstore opened a few days ago, with a great
offering set up of 12,000 part numbers for all vehicles and brands from 1940 to 1999.
We already have signed 16 contracts with aftermarket premium suppliers; therefore, gradually, the offer will
reach 40,000 part numbers by the summer and 70,000 by the end of 2019, which will result in the best catalogue
of classic car parts for the French market: the One-Stop-Shop for specialized workshops, owner’s clubs and
individuals.
Then, from 2020, the road map will see additional digital tools and our geographic expansion.
How do you foresee the collaboration of NEXUS and Renovatio?
First of all, Nexus is the most innovative group of distributors, from ‘mindset’ to ‘fact’.
We see the collaboration as a growth accelerator, one of the key fundamentals of our companies, and specifically
for start-ups!
We are glad to be connected to this community of entrepreneurs, leading aftermarket companies in the world.
We are convinced this will create business opportunities and new horizons. This will go both
ways, as the Renovatio team can share best practice, logistic cases, and new technologies, and open new perspectives
for other NEXUS distributors regarding the classic car parts market. For instance, we know many
distributors have slow moving items that could be offered to our targeted segment, so let’s do it!
From a supplier perspective, Renovatio will push and promote NEXUS suppliers, through our website, during
our events, and in parallel we will convince specialized distributors to select qualitative parts from premium
brands, which is in fact the first requirement of workshops and individuals.
In summary, we believe that all together we are stronger, not only to overcome challenges but also to lead our
respective businesses.
47
What initiatives have you got planned for the next 12 months?
Thanks to its network, Renovatio will organize, jointly with Nexus, the NEXUSAuto tour, which is a road trip in
classic cars, that will take place from October 19th to 22nd, starting from Paris, the day after the Equip Auto
show.
During this ‘mobile’ business and social event, Nexus members will enjoy a great atmosphere, business and
friendly, driving nice cars, and opening additional opportunities with a deep dive in the classic car parts market.
Renovatio will also exhibit at Equip Auto and the Epoqu’auto classic car show in Lyon, then we will organize
a new edition of the annual Renovatio event ‘Les Rencontres Renovatio’, gathering all our partners, suppliers
and distributors to further explore the future of classics, discussing issues such as 3D printing for remanufacturing
purposes, consolidation of express deliveries, quality requirements and heritage of the supplier brands.
Renovatio keeps it quiet, but other disruptive solutions will also appear.
Something about you
I love cars, people interaction and evolutive projects. I spend almost all my career in the automotive aftermarket,
still enjoying it every day… Why? Because in the aftermarket, nothing is fixed, everything is evolutive; the
aftermarket never stops looking for new models, new solutions, it’s a very dynamic market, a combination of
distribution, sales and marketing. Last but far from the least position, my rule of the 3 Fs: enjoy Family, Friends
and have Fun!
THE TIMING RANGE,
A NTN-SNR GLOBAL OFFER!
Major supplier for aftermarket automotive parts, NTN-SNR relies on its know-how and its OEM
business, i.e. with VAG, SMART, Toyota or Hyundai, to carry out its development strategy for the
timing range for engine.
#PERFORMANCEINSIDE is our leitmotiv when developing product:
• Optimal functioning of the engine for a result and a level of driving comfort
identical to the original condition
• The durability of products with higher quality and longer service life for greater
customer satisfaction
• The promise of the company with product ranges, the customer’s support
and the expertise of an original equipment supplier
MARKET TRENDS & FORECASTS
Today the timing market is widely dominated by the belt driven system.
However, the new technological constraints, the downsizing of the
engines mean that chain-driven timing systems have been increasingly
adopted in the past years during the design of new engines.
According to the last forecast, in 2020, 30% to 40% of all cars will
be equipped with a chain driven timing system. Today, 70 % of the
services happen at the brand dealership. Following the growing of
number of chain driven timing systems, the demand for repair kits for
these components has grown.
Even if the lifespan of a chain driven system is different from a belt one
(longer), the system consists of important wear parts, whose quality
remains paramount. Nevertheless, as for the belt driven system, if a
breakdown happens, the cost of the repairs can be very expensive.
This system needs regular visual controls or preventive maintenance on
high mileage vehicles or when suspect noises arise.
NTN-SNR BROADEN ITS TIMING OFFER
To answer the European markets’ needs and requirements, NTN-SNR
broaden its Timing offer by adding a chain kit range (all the elements
included: chain, hydraulic tensioner, sprockets, guides) for Asian
& European most popular brands as well as unitary hydraulic pulleys
coming directly from our NTN factories.
We have carefully picked the best products available on the markets to answer the customer needs. We will have 22 kits for the most common
applications that need replacement. Those kits include:
• Chains: Use of high grade steel to ensure high strength and reliability
• Tensioners: High end hydraulic tensioners to provide precise tension ensuring smooth engine operation
• Guides: Perfectly selected high resistance plastics to provide precise guidance of the timing chain
• Gears: Specific heat treatment to high grade steel to improve tooth’s surface hardening
We will also have 6 unitary pulleys for chains driven system for the Asian brands Subaru, Suzuki & Honda.
Along this product range, we provide useful tools such as our catalogue, Tech ScaN application…
To work with NTN-SNR ensures you a collaboration with a worldwide automotive manufacturer.
Endurance, performance
and reliability
at the 2019 Dakar
philips.com/xavier
Xavier de Soultrait, rally motorbikerider
sponsored by Philips automotive
lighting products, talked to us
about what it takes to compete
in the legendary Dakar rally raid.
Training hard for one of the
toughest rally-raid in the world
“We have the same core training
program as all athletes – cycling,
running, swimming, body-building –
which we tailor to the physical
demands placed on us. On the Dakar,
the days are long and action-packed.
We get up at 3am and then drive two
hours to reach the start of the “Special”.
The Special lasts 4 to 5 hours under
a blazing sun. It’s very hot and very
hard physically. It's hard mentally,
too. The Dakar lasts 10 days, during
which we cover between 500 and 600
kilometers. That's why it's also one of
the toughest races in the world. You
have to keep pushing right to the end,
because it’s often the last few days
that decide the winners and losers.
I also major on navigation when I’m
competing, it's what I’m good at. I
spend weeks practicing my navigation
skills, it's like my own personal crusade.
In Peru, it was sometimes easy to get
lost in the great expanses of desert,
or just taking the wrong valley could
cost you valuable time. Navigation is
quite complex. It’s great when there
are tracks. But when there aren’t any,
you have to follow a course shown in
the road book, in hostile environments
where you can’t ride in a straight
line. That makes it very hard, finding
the check points. And while you’re
navigating, you still have to go fast!
Brilliant mechanic and team
Just crossing the finish line is a victory
in itself. What really counts in this
rally is the punishment bike and
components can take without breaking.
Changing an engine means a 15-minute
penalty; two changes cost you an
hour. So the technology must also
be increasingly rugged, durable and
effective. Three mechanics accompany
the full team: an engineer for the bike’s
electronic systems that control things
like fuel mixture at different altitudes
and temperatures, an engine manager,
and a suspension specialist. Each rider
has his own dedicated mechanic to
handle daily maintenance. We used
workshop lamps a lot. Firstly because
we can arrive late at night after the
stages. Secondly, the mechanics
sometimes have to work all night on
a bike. Philips professional workshop
lamps are remarkable: they’re very
powerful, easy to handle, especially
the frontal ones we often use, and
their white color temperature lets us
see what we’re doing. Often we do
what we call a “liaison” for some hours
in the dark, which means setting out
from where we’ve camped overnight
to reach the start of the stage. In these
situations, lighting is essential. The
roads are often small with stray animals
and multiple obstacles. Both you and
the bike must reach the start line of the
Special safe and sound. We equipped
the large technical assistance trucks
with Philips MasterDuty, 24V front
headlight bulbs with high vibration
resistance and improved lifetime. In
South America, the trucks can cover
a lot of kilometers, sometimes on the
rally course itself.
Winning a stage
Winning a stage is fantastic.
Strategically though, it’s not always be
the best way to win the race. When you
win a stage, you start the next one in
first place, which means that you’re the
one who has to blaze a trail and open
up the route. Of course, that makes
things easier for the competitors behind
you, while you yourself can lose a lot
of time in the ranking. What we call the
“fesh-fesh” is really tough, too. It's a
very fine dust into which the bike sinks.
You don’t know what’s underneath, like
stones to puncture your tire or make
you fall. The stage I won, number 3, was
my biggest moment so far on the Dakar.
That was my first official stage win!”

Heavy Metal
New Metal Water Pump Housing
Plastics are taking over in cars. Around 20 percent of a vehicle
is now made up of PE, PU and co. Understandable, as plastics
are inexpensive and, above all, light. For that reason, they have
long since been used not just in the passenger compartment,
but also in the body or the engine compartment. There, though,
they sometimes reach their limits. For example, as the housing
of the water pump.
Such housings are often made of polyurethane (PU). Over time,
as a result of temperature fluctuations in the engine compartment,
this material becomes brittle and cracks. Changing the
water pump is then often the final straw which causes it to break
completely. In the CT 1143WP2 and CT 1143WP3 timing belt kits
+ water pump, therefore, we have included a water pump that,
unlike the OE solution, has a metal housing.
dimensions are exactly the same. That means the fitter can install
the housing without further modifications – and the workshop
can offer its customers a durably reliable solution in excellent
quality. In addition to the power transmission belt and the water
pump, the kit also contains the thermostat and the coolant sensor.
Consequently, the fitter has all the necessary components quickly
to hand. “We have therefore responded to the requirements of the
aftermarket and are offering our customers an optimized repair
solution including the necessary sensor system,” says product
manager Adrian Rothschild.
Workshops can, as always, rely unreservedly on the quality: As
with all components for the automotive aftermarket, Continental
offers registered workshops a 5-year guarantee on this product.
This part is made of lightweight diecast aluminum and is significantly
tougher and more durable than the OE component. The

Top quality for all kinds of weather
As well as wiper motors and washer fluid
pumps, Continental is now also offering
wiper blades for the spare parts market.
Continental AQUACTRL wiper blades consist of a single continuous
metal spine with a bonded rubber strip which makes them
especially rugged and durable. In addition, a special coating reduces
noise. The wiper blades deliver superb wiping performance
in all kinds of weather. Their special design optimally distributes
pressure across wipers of any length and on any windshield. A
patented spoiler presses the blades against the windshield even
at high speeds and with strong wind resistance.
AQUACTRL wiper blades are now on the market and fit over
90 percent of all cars in Europe.* The product range is compact,
minimizing the logistics for dealers and garages: it includes 21 different
front and rear blades plus 46 sets with blades for the driver
and passenger side. The advantage of the sets is that they have
pre-installed adapters, allowing customers to attach the blades
directly using the plug-and-play principle. Another advantage is
that customers who still have metal-framed blades can easily use
the adapter to upgrade to modern flat-blade technology.
In tests together with the German Technical Inspection Authority
TÜV Nord according to numerous criteria in the SAE J 903 standard,
the blades performed better than competing products and
clearly demonstrated their effectiveness. In the dynamic wiping
quality test they had even perfect wiping results at very high
speeds.
control, electronics, information and safety. With headquarters
in Japan and local offices throughout Europe, the company
is a key supplier for manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers
and repairers across the globe.
As a result of partnerships formed with all the world’s car makers,
DENSO Europe B.V’s dedicated Aftermarket and Industrial Solutions
Business Unit delivers OE quality parts and performance covering
all makes and models of vehicle. Several products feature DENSO’s
world-first innovations from decades of extensive research and
development, with the entire DENSO portfolio designed to enhance
overall vehicle performance whilst reducing environmental impact.
This is backed by dedicated support teams delivering extensive
customer, marketing, training and logistical support services.
One of these products is e-Videns, a user-friendly, comprehensive
vehicle inspection tool that scans all systems for error codes and
monitors live data from the engine under various operating conditions.
This information is then compared with reference data within the
DENSO cloud to help technicians identify abnormalities and pre-empt
potential issues. The tool, which is available in 15 different languages,
is a typical example of the digital innovations being spearheaded
by DENSO for the aftermarket.
In addition to operating a decentralised infrastructure to more closely
service customers in local markets, DENSO also offers a range
of digital solutions to help support and inform the aftermarket.
The company recently launched a new web-based portal for direct
customers in Russia, which it is extending out to other regions this year.
The move is part of DENSO’s commitment to delivering future-proof
solutions for customers across product, service and support.
With a proven track record in new technology, including common rail
products, lambda sensors and engine management systems, DENSO
has an established profile in the aftermarket. The company’s
aftermarket programmes are carefully selected by specialist product
management teams to deliver OE-quality performance, quality and
choice. This is nowhere more apparent than in the new service
offering recently launched by DENSO to help the aftermarket increase
workshop efficiency and customer transparency.
Few aftermarket suppliers are as future-facing as DENSO.
The company pioneered the first electric compressor for hybrid
cars and is continuing to invest in research and development
around electric and hybrid vehicles. This knowledge is driving
new innovations across the aftermarket, backed by digital solutions
that bring technicians even closer to DENSO’s vehicle experts.
Behind all of this sits DENSO’s core value – to provide quality
first, in everything it does.
Reduce downtime
with SKF Complete Hubs and Truck Matched Units
SKF has been a trusted OE supplier to the major truck and trailer
manufacturers in the world for a long time. Now we offer complete
hubs and truck matched units to help commercial vehicles
get back on the road faster.
REDUCING
TOTAL COST
OF
OWNERSHIP
SKF complete hubs
Today, most distributors have complete hubs in their assortment. They can source
these from a range of original equipment suppliers such as Mercedes, BPW or SAF.
Changing the complete hub in one piece is easier than dismounting the hub to change
the bearings, which then need to be pressed into the hub again before re-mounting it
to the wheel. This procedure takes a long time, requires specific workshop tools and
means longer down-time for the truck/trailer.
SKF now offers high-quality assemblies that are a perfect fit with original parts.
Bearings, hubs, accessories and fastening parts all match OE specifications and requirements.
The pre-mounted assembly of bearings and hub also enables quick
one-piece exchange procedures, ensuring easier and faster replacement, greatly
reducing the risk of installation errors down the road.
Some of the benefis of the SKF complete hubs are:
• Easier and faster replacement: pre-mounted assembly of bearings and hub for quick one-piece exchange procedures
• Highest quality and perfect fit with OE: bearings, hubs, accessories and fastening parts all match OE specifications and
requirements
• Reliable logistics: fast delivery and sturdy packaging that can handle tough warehouse conditions and protect the parts
from impacts and loads
SKF aftermarket truck matched units
In view of ever tougher competition in the commercial haulage sector, it is important
to be able to depend on maximum quality and reliable operation. After all, vehicles
only achieve financial profit when they are in operation in other words, when they are
on the road.
The SKF aftermarket truck matched unit (TMU) has been especially developed by SKF
to meet the tough demands of today’s commercial vehicles and to match their life
cycle.
Some of the features of the TMU are:
• Tailor-made compact bearing system design
• Ready to mount
• Greased and sealed
• Pre-adjusted axial bearing clearance and optimized pre-load
• Higher system stiffness compared to separated tapered roller bearing solutions
Reducing your total cost of ownership:
• Less risk of damaging the bearing and the seals
• Less risk of polluting the grease during assembly
• Easier and faster installation procedure and less risk of installation errors
• Lower frequency of returns or warranty claims.
• Technical support and mounting instructions available
Electric Mobility & Innovation : Total Launches a Pioneering Line
of Fluids for Electric and Hybrid Vehicles
Total is consolidating its position as key player in electric mobility by launching today an
innovative line of fluids for electric and hybrid vehicles. Produced thanks to important efforts
of the Group’s R&D teams, these products have been specially developed to meet the
cooling and lubrication needs of the various components of these new types of engines and
to ensure that they remain in peak condition throughout their lifetime.
Two new product lines are now available to automakers: Total Quartz EV Fluid, for light
vehicles, and Total Rubia EV Fluid, for industrial & utility vehicles and electric buses.
Marketed by Total Lubricants, these products join the other electric mobility solutions Total
offers through a variety of concrete applications for charging, storage, and fleet
management.
"Through extensive research efforts, we are proud to have developed products that align
with the new needs of electric mobility," explains Philippe Charleux, Senior Vice President
Lubricants and Specialities at Total. "Integrated before the vehicles leave the factories,
these high-performance fluids will accompany them throughout their service lives,
benefitting all our customers: parts manufacturers, automakers and end users. This project
illustrates our technical excellence and our ability to anticipate and innovate, which we
leverage for a sustainable and performing mobility."
Developed in Response to New Technical Requirements
These lines were developed to provide a better solution for the specific issues linked to
engines and transmissions with high rotation speeds, and the need to control heat
exchange in electric batteries.
Total researchers focused their research and development efforts for these fluids on four
main characteristics, required by any electric or hybrid application:
- dielectric properties, essential to any usage with electric current
- compatibility with new electrification components, helping to prevent the
corrosion of copper coils in electric engines and protect their polymer coatings
- a solution for the temperature constraints specific to electric models: rapid
calorific evacuation during major accelerations or fast charges, thermal
management for batteries, etc.
- conventional lubrication services for transmissions to protect their mechanical
components, maintain optimal friction properties and ensure vehicles efficiency over
time

ZF Aftermarket’s
electric vision.
The automotive world is changing. By the year 2030, it is estimated
that around one third of all automobiles produced worldwide will be
purely electric or hybrid electric-powered. Driving this will be many
things, including the kind of environmentally-minded policies to
encourage drivers, fleets and municipalities alike to purchase cleanrunning
cars (currently, for example, there are low emission zones in
place in 200 cities across Europe).
At the forefront of innovation and positive change for
decades, the ZF Group will play their part in this new
motoring revolution, with Electric Blue: a pioneering new
range of products designed specifically for electric vehicles.
Launched at Automechanika, Frankfurt in 2018, TRW Electric
Blue perfectly encapsulates ZF Aftermarket’s capacity
for true innovation, ground-breaking thinking and classleading
quality. Whilst for some, the growing shift away
from conventional vehicles towards electric models might
be a cause for concern, to ZF Aftermarket it represents an
opportunity: for cleaner, ‘greener’, truly environmentallyfriendly
alternatives, which will benefit our children and their
children after them.
Actively shaping the ‘Next Generation Aftermarket’, ZF
Aftermarket has already developed essential training
programmes to enable technicians the world over to handle
High Voltage Systems and fit electric car parts with safety,
confidence and expertise. Now, with TRW Electric Blue, the
company takes its commitment to an electric-powered future
to a whole new level.
“Electric vehicles are here to stay,” says Helmut Ernst, Head
of ZF Aftermarket. “Distributors and workshops who adapt
to accommodate this change will be long-term leaders
destined for success. Our High Voltage training sessions
allow customers and partners to acquire the key skills and
qualifications they need to master the complexities of future
technology at an early stage. We are confident that TRW
Electric Blue will further emphasize our commitment to Next
Generation technology, with great benefits for drivers and the
environment alike.”
A new generation.
Already covering 97 percent of the European electric car
parc, the new generation of TRW Electric Blue brake pads
significantly reduce interior noise, as well as the development
of fine dust during braking. But ZF Aftermarket isn’t stopping
there; the program continues to evolve and improve, with
formulations for other hybrid vehicles currently in the testing
process, with further roll outs in the months to come.
When it comes to the future of automotive, ZF Aftermarket’s
vision really is electric.
