LAURA’S recovery is going<br />
well, however, now she has<br />
a nasty cold so family-funtime<br />
continues, with added<br />
sniffling and groaning.<br />
Before the dreaded<br />
lurgy took hold here Laura<br />
had some time out with<br />
a friend and fellow mum<br />
while I took Vittoria to the<br />
movies. Alone.<br />
We have taken her to the<br />
movies before, but when<br />
she was a proper wee baby.<br />
With her being a full-on<br />
toddler, I was worried<br />
about how it would go.<br />
The session I picked had<br />
a lot going in my favour. It<br />
was a special screening for<br />
parents with small kids and<br />
we were watching Pokemon<br />
Detective Pikachu.<br />
Bright colours, fun characters.<br />
Attention-grabbing,<br />
with a healthy amount of<br />
adult humour and nostalgic<br />
value for a former<br />
Pokemon Red aficionado.<br />
In theory, good for both<br />
of us.<br />
We managed to get there<br />
the perfect amount of late<br />
to watch only the better<br />
trailers.<br />
The start time also<br />
lined up with Vittoria’s<br />
lunchtime, which was<br />
great as she is food obsessed.<br />
It will give you angelic<br />
behaviour and blissful<br />
silence for as long as the<br />
food lasts.<br />
Vittoria happily sat, had<br />
her lunch and was watching<br />
so cheerfully that I<br />
started mentally planning<br />
regular daddy/daughter<br />
movie dates.<br />
That lasted until the dialogue<br />
turned to some fairly<br />
key story points. At that<br />
moment Vittoria got up,<br />
jumped off her back row<br />
seat and climbed through<br />
the seat in front.<br />
Now I’m trying to give<br />
Vittoria as much freedom<br />
to explore as possible but<br />
I’m lucky the theatre was<br />
pretty empty as she just<br />
booked it down the line of<br />
seats, ran down the stairs<br />
and explored.<br />
With offers of popcorn<br />
and other snacks, I<br />
managed to limit her laps<br />
around the theatre to the<br />
manageable and enjoy the<br />
whole film.<br />
It wasn’t until the<br />
climactic final battle scene<br />
that she turned it up to “oh<br />
no”.<br />
She went down the stairs,<br />
smiled at a family to gain<br />
their trust then snuck<br />
down the row behind their<br />
seats and pinched their entire<br />
popcorn box through<br />
the seat.<br />
I retrieved it and gave it<br />
back to the family – who<br />

FUN-TIME: This level of concentration lasted about<br />
30sec into the movie.<br />
were very understanding,<br />
they had children too and<br />
I imagine most parents<br />
have been through snackthievery.<br />
All in all, an excellent<br />
outing. Ten out of ten,<br />
would do again.<br />
