CONTRACT AWARD
As we closed out our business year at the end
of May, we missed our targets for health and
safety due to a poor start to the year however, I’m
pleased to say that we saw an improvement in our
performance in the past quarter. The importance of how
our behaviours can influence this was reinforced during
the recent safety week stand downs which have been
well received. On another positive note I’m pleased to
say that we have closed the year by achieving our overall
target for commercial performance with some
departments exceeding while others narrowly missing
their respective targets. After two tough years we have
done very well to meet this key element of our company
Vision.
The improvements in both these areas; health and safety
and commercial, support our Mission to have a safe and
sustainable business. I thank everybody for their
commitment and helping to create a great place to work.
In this coming year I’m keen that we focus more on our
environmental performance particularly in reducing our
energy use and our carbon footprint. We will be using the
data we have been collecting and using this to
understand how and where we can do better.
Opportunities and enquiries have dropped off which is
likely to result in a drop off in activity in the short term
however we have been busy bidding for some longer
term framework opportunities, some are re-tenders for
existing and some new frameworks, which if successful
will bring some stability in the medium term.
Remember that we can each influence these
opportunities by ensuring we work safely and that we
get it right first time every time to provide the best
opportunity of repeat business.

Work has recently commenced on site at Oughtibridge, North Sheffield.
We have been appointed Principal Contractor and Principal Designer to
design and build the initial phase of infrastructure at the Old Paper Mill in
Oughtibridge, for our repeat client Commercial Estates Group.
The main elements of the works include a 200m long adoptable access road
and a 30m single span adoptable road bridge over the River Don. On
completion, the works will improve access to the 110 acre site allowing
development works to proceed and opening up this beautiful waterside and
woodland setting, enabling public access for the first time to new trails, walks
and a cycling route.
The full scope includes
• Construction of 200m of new highway under S38 agreement
• Junction improvement works under S278 agreement
• Installation of utilities
• Construction of a 30m single span bridge over River Don
• Scour protection works to the river
• Demolition and removal of existing steel girder bridge
• Maintain access to existing land users – Yorkshire Water and
Forestry Commission.
