Banker’s keen eye spots attempted forgery

Jonathan M. McLaughlin,

22, of 504 Kildeer

Drive in Bolingbrook, was

charged June 1 with forgery

and resisting a police


According to police reports,

an officer was dispatched

to the 11200 block

of West Lincoln Highway

in response to a subject

attempting to cash a counterfeit

check. When the

officer asked McLaughlin

for his identification,

McLaughlin reportedly

said he didn’t have any on

him, then turned and fled

from the officer.

McLaughlin fled between

buildings, at which

point the officer lost sight

of him. Additional officers,

along with Will a Will

County Forest Preserve officer

and K-9 unit, began

a search of the area, police

said. He reportedly was located

inside of a dumpster

where he was then placed

under arrest.

An officer spoke with

the bank teller who was

handling McLaughlin’s

attempted transaction and

told the officer that something

appeared wrong

with the check issued to

McLaughlin in the amount

of $988.42. The teller contacted

the account holder,

who told the teller that no

such check was issued.
