Cottage, while enjoying an ice cream cone and resting in an Adirondack<br />
Chair.<br />
Climb in<strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> oversized Adirondack chair at <strong>the</strong><br />
entrance <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Adirondack Folk School, it makes a<br />
perfect group picture. The Adirondack Folk School<br />
founded in <strong>20</strong>10 is open year round for <strong>the</strong> joy of<br />
hands-on learning <strong>the</strong> arts, crafts and cus<strong>to</strong>ms of <strong>the</strong><br />
<strong>Adirondacks</strong>.<br />
Lake Luzerne is <strong>the</strong> place for thrills and chills, and<br />
for <strong>the</strong> outdoor adventurer it’s fast becoming known<br />
as “Adventure Row”. With plenty of opportunities<br />
for river paddling, tubing, floating, rafting, canoeing,<br />
kayaking, water boarding, hiking, biking, rodeo and<br />
horseback riding with guided mountain<strong>to</strong>p dinner rides<br />
available and <strong>the</strong> thrill of soaring on a zip line, with<br />
age appropriate zones. In winter, <strong>the</strong>re’s cross country<br />
skiing, snow shoeing, ice fishing and snowmobilers<br />
can ride over <strong>20</strong>0 miles of forest trails.<br />
Set off in search of an adventure at Harris Land<br />
Preserve. As one travels nor<strong>the</strong>asterly through Lake<br />
Luzerne <strong>to</strong>wards Fourth Lake, Potash Mountain, with<br />
its classic, rugged profile, looms straight ahead. This little peak is<br />
one of <strong>the</strong> best-loved, iconic features of <strong>the</strong> sou<strong>the</strong>rn <strong>Adirondacks</strong><br />
- left by <strong>the</strong> glaciers, and wea<strong>the</strong>red by water, ice, and <strong>the</strong> sun<br />
for thousands of years. At a modest 1752’ elevation, its position<br />
makes it seem huge - and climbers know it is a ‘real’ mountain.<br />
This route up Potash takes you through The Harris Land Preserve,<br />
a 112 acre preserve is a beautiful wooded area used for forestbased<br />
education, and year long outdoor recreation. Hiking, snowshoeing<br />
and horseback riding are all in <strong>the</strong> mix.<br />
