Jill Bridger School of Dance

Once upon a time ...

Everyone loves a fairy tale and the students at the Jill Bridger School of

Dance embrace story telling through ballet and dance. First experienced in

our pre-school Melody Movement classes, children enjoy acting out Melody

Bear’s adventures. Every week there is something new as we join Melody

Bear with a trip to the zoo, a flight on a magical carpet, a walk on the

Moon, sports day fun, a princess castle, a teddy bear hospital and a visit to

Nursery Rhyme land to name just a few.

As our students mature and progress to our Royal Academy of Ballet grades

they learn new story telling skills through the school’s annual performances.

In 2019 the school has prepared three new ballets. The Junior Department

are performing the story of Daisy-Head Mayzie inspired by the book of the

same title by Dr Seuss. Our Inter department students are dancing the story

of the Cuckoo Clock. This story is loosely based on the book by Mary

Louisa Molesworth about a joyless orphanage made happy again with the

help of a cuckoo taking the orphans on a magical journey to find the joys of

colour, music and friendship. The Senior students are dancing ‘The Rhythm

of Rain’. The ballet celebrates the water cycle from the tiniest raindrops to

streams, mighty rivers and seas and celebrates the role of water in work and

pleasure as the rain falls in fields and lagoons. In addition to teaching the

student ballet techniques and theatre craft the students are exposed to the

different musical genres and literature to encourage an all-round learning

experience at the school.

COLOURS OF DANCE

After school activities are one of the best ways to keep our children active,

educated & entertained during their free time. However, sometimes it can be

difficult to find the right activity without spending time sitting in traffic or

waiting for the bus. Our first class teachers have always been passionate

about making dance accessible to everyone as it can be beneficial in so

many ways, increasing fitness, self-confidence & a way to escape from day

to day life. This is why you can find us in Cambridge, St John’s College

School, Great Wilbraham, The Perse School, Kings College School and

St Faith’s School.

How to get children off-line and having fun

Gaming and social media addiction are relatively new buzz words but ones

that send shock waves to many parents. Although experts argue about the

best way to tackle it, what is clear is that the internet is not going anywhere

so parents are looking to find other ways to ignite their child’s imagination

and create a happy and balanced life.

During the long six-week summer holiday, finding things to keep children

entertained day in and day out is not easy, which is why many parents look

to holiday clubs, so children can interact with others, have fun and keep off

technology.

Razzamataz Cambridge is offering a fun and affordable summer school

where youngsters get to experience everything from street dance through to

pop singing and traditional West End and Broadway musical theatre.

Performing arts has many benefits including increased fitness and a chance

to allow young people to express themselves and work through any

emotional difficulties.

During the week, children and their teachers will work on various songs,

dances and drama pieces, together with learning about theatre skills in

general. Being given the chance to perform is paramount to building a

child’s confidence which is why on the last day, the children will all get the

opportunity to perform their showcase to friends and family.

To secure your place on the summer school at Razzamataz Cambridge

Family Mission at IWM Duxford

It’s 1944 and the most important day of the war so far is looming. You and

your family are needed as the latest recruits of paratroopers. Use your Jump

Bag to put each other through your paces. Together you’ll spot a Spitfire

from just its sound, perfect how to land safely and be assigned your rank.

This summer holiday, learn about D-Day, the biggest invasion in history, as

you explore IWM Duxford. This interactive storytelling experience is based on

personal stories from those who served on D-Day.

Walk through the same hangars and buildings as those who served at

RAF Duxford. See aircraft take to the skies from the airfield that Spitfires first

flew from. And get up close to over a century of aviation with hundreds of

aircraft and objects on display.

On 13 and 14 July, take your seats, sit back and prepare to be enthralled

by the Flying Legends Airshow. Enjoy world class, unrivalled, choreographed

displays featuring unique aircraft types rarely seen together in the UK skies

or anywhere else.

Linton Zoo

Now is the perfect time for a visit!

The zoo is buzzing with activity and

there is so much to see and do.

Many of the springtime youngsters

are growing up fast and enjoy

playing and exploring their

enclosures.

Don’t miss the twin Binturong babies

born on 13th April 2019. This large

mammal from the forests of southeast

Asia just has to be the original

Gruffalo! The Binturong is a strange

looking creature made up of all

sorts of animal bits! At first it

appears to be bear like often

walking on its hind legs, then it has

many cat-like characteristics too and

this is where its other name of Bear

cat has come from.

Our zoo is in a beautiful woodland

setting, it is the perfect place to get

the family, especially children,

connected to nature! As an outdoor

attraction remember to check the

weather forecast and come

prepared – wrap up warm and bring

boots and waterproof gear.

Primarily a breeding centre for

endangered species and a place to

learn, Linton Zoo is home to some

very exciting animals which include

magnificent tigers, lions, snow

leopard, tapirs, kangaroo, Eastern

quoll, mountain zebra, lemurs, giant

tortoises, lots of birds and some

unusual reptiles.

Our exciting schedule of events can

guide you round nearly the whole

zoo meeting lots of our lesser known

exotic species here at the zoo. Our

team have developed a range of

new talks and activities to get you

much closer to some of our

animals, whilst giving you more

information about our conservation

projects. Meet our Brazilian tapir

family, when they are given their

lunch at 12 o’clock. And there is an

opportunity to get very close to the

red kangaroo and wallaby mob

when the keepers give them their

afternoon snack. Don’t miss the

animal encounters where you will

have a chance to touch some of our

smaller zoo animals, every day there

will be something different and may

include snakes, lizards, owls, baby

giant tortoises, guinea pigs, giant

stick insects and other creepy

crawlies!

To get the best from your visit make

sure you allow time to go around a

couple of times and so that you

don’t miss anything plan your outing

before you come by checking our

website for all the scheduled talks

and activities.

If you want a little more than just a

zoo visit why not book one of our

VIP lemur tours for ages 2 and

above, a great idea for Birthday

parties! You can get up close and

personal with a lemur and help the

keepers feed them for just an extra

£10 per person (best to book in

advance to guarantee your place,

children must be participated by an

accompanying adult). Or as an

extra treat and if you want a little

more than just a zoo visit then our

VIP Behind the Scenes Tortoise

Tours are a must! Get up close and

personal with our awesome giants

and then go behind the scenes,

learn how we care for our tortoise

groups, including how we incubate

the eggs, then meet some of the

latest hatchlings!

The Zoo is open daily , with an

admission fee of £11.00 for an

adult and £8.50 for children 2 to

13 years, we’re sure you will find

your family outing fantastic value for

money. There is also a basic

children’s play area, free parking

within the zoo grounds, coffee shop

and all other usual facilities. For

more information, visit our website
