PEGASUS POST Latest Christchurch news at www.star.kiwi Tuesday July 23 2019 11 spoilt for choice Award-winning fish & chip shop seeks a place in The Bidfood Peoples Choice Award’s Popular fish and chip shop, Gourmet Seafoods QE11 in Travis Road, has won several awards over the years, with the latest one being the ‘Best Practice Frying Award’ from The NZ Chip Group, an organisation that monitors the nutritional standards of fried chips around New Zealand. Shop owner Peter and son Ben both received the award after completing the online training, which also makes Gourmet Seafoods eligible for entry in The Chip Group’s Bidfood People’s Choice Award, in which customers vote online for their favourite chip shop. The website is www.thechipgroup.co.nz and Gourmet Seafoods QE11 is one of 28 takeaway shops around New Zealand qualified to take part. ‘You can vote instore or you can vote at home,” Peter says. “Entries close on July 30, so be quick to vote and be part of the success story.” Gourmet Seafoods has some new neighbours, those being the new Shirley Boys’ High and Avonside Girls’ school campus on Travis Road, which opened in May, and the new gymnasium next to the QE11 pool, which opened earlier this month. “We welcome all the new people to the community,” Peter says. “The students come in after school and they are very good to deal with. They are polite and well-mannered. “We treat everyone that comes into the shop as individuals – they all have great stories, which are great to listen to.” Gourmet Seafoods has an extensive menu, with a wide variety of tasty takeaways including souvlakis, and spicy marinated chicken fillets, which Peter says are in great demand, as they are the “real deal”. Gourmet Seafoods QE11 is located in the Travis Road shopping centre at 251 Travis Rd. They are open seven days a week and off-street parking is available.
