2nd Gear – Speed Factory

suspension specialists

Kevin Moran, the well known Moto-X’er and owner

of 2nd Gear in Kya Sands has over the years gained

a huge amount of knowledge and experience and

developed some serious skills when it comes to

setting up Moto –X suspension, particularly the

49mm Showa units fitted to 2016 through 2019

Honda CRF range and the 2019 Kawasaki KX range.

Although fitted with some of the best components

on the market the suspension is set up, shimmed

and valved for the broader market to be plush and

comfy. However, when ridden competitively by an

experienced rider does tend to bottom out very

easily even set to the max slowing the faster riders

down quite a bit. With some clever shimming and

valving and set up Kevin has managed to stiffen up

the bottom end without losing any of the plushness

on top. He won’t divulge how he does it; it is his

R&D over many years and experience as a Moto

– X racer that is the main ingredient. For as little

as R3,000.0 he will set up your suspension and

meet you at a local track to do final tweaking with

you and does guarantee that your bike will be a

whole lot more competitive. He can do the same

conversion to most makes of MX suspension and

also does a conversion to the rear shock as well.

We will be grabbing one of his upgraded bikes with

a top rider and compare it to a stock unit in next

month’s issue of Dirt & Trail.

On another note, Kevin also buys and sells a lot of

good condition used Moto- X kit at really decent

prices, so if you have kit that no longer fits you

take it down to him to sell, if you are looking to

replace some of your kit and don’t want to spend

an arm and a leg then get down there as well. They

also have a pro workshop and engineering facility

runwith Kevin Moran and Jeremy Pincus on the

benches themselves. You’ll find 2nd gear at unit 25,

Boundary corner Retail Centre, just off Malibongwe

drive on Boundary Rd in Kya Sands or give them a

call on 010 109 4581.

CF Moto ATV’s & Side

X Sides in S.A.

We’ve seen a couple of different CF Moto products

come into S.A. in small scale with different people

from time to time. Evolution Mobility in Centurion,

known for their Marshell golf cart has teamed up with

international heavy weight Metro Motor to import and

distribute CF Moto ATV’s and Side X Sides into S.A.

on a large scale with proper parts and warranty back

up and will possibly look at expanding the range in

years to come.

Chatting to Jonathan Cohen of Evolution mobility and

Tomer Komerov, CEO of Metro Motor you get a distinct

sense of their professionalism. Metro Motors are the

official importers and distributors of Yamaha, Kawasaki,

SYM, CF Moto, Beta and several other brands in Israel

and have been for the past 40 years and have realised

the potential of the South African market.

They had a range of the new CF Moto range of ATV’s

and Side X Sides for us to inspect, and we did ….

very closely. The quality looks as good as any of

the mainline brands in SA at the moment and the

pricing seems to be pretty competitive. They are all

kitted to the max with tow bars and trailer plugs as

standard, USB ports to charge your phones and in

some instance they even have winches, roofs and

so-on. We will be testing the units in the next couple

of issues and give you the low down.

They have literally just landed and are busy setting up

a dealer network, so we should have some more info

for you by our next issue, for now dealer enquiries

can be made to Jonathan Cohen on 010 593 4649 or

jonathan@evomotors.co.za. More news soon.
