DOWN & DIRTY

AT DIRT BRONCO

The fourth round of the 2019 TRP

Distributors South African National

Motocross Championship thrilled fans

at Dirt Bronco in Krugersdorp, Gauteng

with bar-to-bar racing and championship

tussles throughout the day. The day’s

action was opened by Mogale City mayor

Patrick Lipudi. How cool is that?

MX1:

In the premier MX1 Class, David Goosen

took the lead in Heat 1 and looked to be

in control of the race until a hard charging

Maddy Malan passed him late in the

race to take the heat win. KTM’s Tristan

Purdon finished 3rd while championship

contender, Lloyd Vercueil limped across

the line in 10th after a crash earlier in the

race.

Heat 2 saw Goosen again grab the lead

from the start, this time he dominated the

race from start to finish to take the overall

for the day. Purdon and Malan finished

in 2nd and 3rd respectively. Vercueil

managed to salvage a 4th place, which

would put him in 7th for the day. Jayden

Ashwell’s 5-5 finish saw him take 4th for

the day.

Husqvarna’s Maddy Malan’s 2nd place

overall for the day sees him extend his

championship points lead.

MX2:

In the MX2 Class, KTM’s Josh Mlimi

blasted into the lead in Heat 1 and pulled

away from the pack, a technical issue

with his throttle later in the race saw him

lose speed. Anthony Raynard put on an

impressive performance to come from

behind and take the lead. Slade Smith

finished in 3rd with Kerim Fitz-Gerald 4th

and Jesse Wright in 5th.

Heat 2 saw another holeshot from Mlimi to

take the lead but this time fatigue would

get the better of him as he lost places

during the race to finish in 4th and 4th

overall for the day. It was good to see

Fitzgerald on form again as he took the

race win and secured 2nd for the day.

Raynard’s 3rd place finish saw him take

top honours. Smith put together a good

race to finish in 2nd and claim 3rd overall.

Seniors:

+30 rider Tyson Engelbrecht took the

opening MX3 race from +40 winner Ian

Topliss, +30 man Enduro racer Dwayne
