ICE HITS JHB

ICE or aptly known as INNER

CITY ENDURO started out

some 5 years ago in the heart

of Port Elizabeth. The concept

was simple ..find the best 15

Extreme Enduro Riders in the

world and build a track made

up of Man Made and Natural

obstacles and let them loose.

The format of Last Man

Standing is simple .. we stop

the race after every lap , throw

the last rider out and restart

the race. With this formula

thousands of spectators are

drawn into this battleground

to witness the carnage

Red Cherry Adventures who own the ICE

concept decided to spread its ICE wings

and a venue in the deep south of Joburg

namely Fast KTM was found.

The next step was to pull in the worlds

best and who better than to challenge

the strong SA field than World Champion

Billy Bolt. Billy on a Husqvarna 4 stroke

flew in early and ran some cool training

clinics for a bunch of locals. The star

studded Pro field included the likes of ICE

podium Yamaha man Kyle Flanagan , Brett

Swanepoel, Duane Kleynhans, Matt Green,

William Oosthuizen, Charan Moore, Scott

Bouverie to name a few . There was some

anticipation from the riders as to who would

unseat Billy and whether or not this was

possible.

Work on the track started months ago and

the track was cluttered with scary obstacles

like The Motul Log Jam, Kwiksure Concrete

Chaos, Compendium Piping Hot, Dunlop

Tyre Torture, Carnival City Gang Plank,

Yamaha Riverbed Rodeo that were sure to

test the field made up of the 15 pro riders,

those 15 wannabee Pro’s called Support

and the brave Juniors who were limited to

the Big Wheel 85cc.

Saturday was prologue day where even

the Pros had to qualify and Scott Bouverie

on his KTM proved to be the fastest on

the day. The surprise was 2 SUPPORT

riders who qualified 2nd and 3rd namely

Heinrich Aust and Warwick Neave. This

would mean that 2 PROs would be pushed

out to Support Class. Finishing in 4th was

William Oosthuizen and 5th the Mclaren

man Luke Walker. Kyle Flanagan who

podiumed 2nd place to Wade Young in the

PE event finished in 5th. Billy was down

with bronchitis and was a doubtful starter

for the main event.

The Big day has arrived and Fast KTM was

filling up fast with huge crowds expected .

15 food trucks , a beer garden and a show

by Brian Capper were the variety of Side

Shows on offer. The Outside Broadcast

vehicle with 8 cameraman were all ready to

stream ICE live for the 1st time ... a massive

undertaking

The organisers decided to increase the

support field to 20 riders and the pro field

was now sitting at 18 riders and the 13

Juniors all got pushed through. The great

news was that Billy Bolt had arrived against

doctors’ orders

With 15 pro’s lined up the trick was to

get through Motul Log Jam as fast as

possible so you could line up the rest of

the obstacles and make sure that you do

not come last... with the Last Man Standing
