PROGRAMS AND events Service Saturday! – Service Saturday! events are a wonderful way for volunteers to engage with A Little Help and help neighbors with spring and fall yard and home chores. 2018’s events were BIG, with two new additional events added to the schedule. In Spring 2018, we provided services to our members in South and North Denver and Jefferson, Chaffee and Delta Counties. In Fall 2018, we added service areas in North and South Jefferson County, as well as inaugural events in Larimer County and Cedaredge in Delta County. 2018 boasted collaboration with several youth groups including: South High School Football Team, Interact Club of Lakewood High School and many college students from Colorado State University. At these events, we served 200 homes (over 300 older adults) in five counties, engaging 700 volunteers! A Little Community – More companies and organizations have been reaching out to A Little Help for their days of service.. In 2018, we accommodated over 20 groups, who helped with tasks like yard work, friendly visits, errand running and so much more. We took note of this growing interest and are creating a program called, “A Little Community.” This program will formalize the relationship with various companies and organizations in the community working to connect service needs and social connections for neighbors. Summer Picnics – Our Summer Picnics are fun and growing each year. We bring together neighbors from all walks of life to celebrate together with great food and conversation. City Park Pavilion and the Washington Park Boathouse are the locations for the celebrations each year. In addition to these larger picnics, we reintroduced the opportunity to have a few additional backyard picnics at willing members’ homes. Each year, these events bring together interested neighbors and long-standing members of A Little Help. Tough Talks – Tough Talks bring together expert panelists to share interesting information and T O U G H T A L K S create space for questions and answers. Topics for Tough Talks in 2018 included the following programs: Proactive Planning, Holistic Health, Technologies in Aging and our first City Chat, with several Council people in the City and County of Denver. Tough Talks are a wonderful opportunity for members to socialize and to learn more about topics that may be difficult for them to begin a conversation about with others.
