with diabetes<br />
Diabetes Christchurch Inc is a support<br />
organisation for people living in the<br />
Canterbury region that have diabetes, as<br />
well as their family and friends.<br />
They offer support, information, advocacy<br />
and non-clinical education on all aspects<br />
of diabetes. Their diabetes shop has a<br />
wide range of medical products including<br />
blood glucose testing metres, blood<br />
glucose test strips, lancets, fingerpickers,<br />
ketone test strips, diabetes cookbooks,<br />
hypo treatments, medical grade shoes and<br />
socks, travel bags, the popular Jok ‘n’ Al<br />
sauces and toppings, sugar-free treats and<br />
diabetes and gluten-free recipe books.<br />
Diabetes Christchurch membership offers<br />
you contact with other people with this<br />
chronic condition, and exercise and<br />
activities with their age-related support<br />
groups and discounted shop products.<br />
You can contact the office/shop on<br />
9<strong>25</strong>-9972 – they are located at 21 Carlyle<br />
Street, Sydenham, with good parking.<br />
The friendly staff can help you find further<br />
information about different aspects of<br />
diabetes care or make an appointment for<br />
the subsidised podiatry toenail clipping<br />
service, or you may like to attend various<br />
group education classes for Type 2, or a<br />
supermarket tour. The society occasionally<br />
arranges social outings and functions<br />
for members and the general public,<br />
open meetings with diabetes-related<br />
guest speakers and a High Tea party in<br />
November for members aged over 80.<br />
You can become involved with the<br />
diabetes awareness programmes or other<br />
fundraising and volunteer activities in<br />
your area. Please see the calendar of<br />

other diabetes services, or you can use<br />
the online shop to purchase a range of<br />
diabetes products.<br />
Information Centre and Library:<br />
Thesociety shop is open Monday to<br />
Friday from 9am to 4pm. They have a<br />
good library of pamphlets, books and<br />
magazines, food, exercise and other<br />
related diabetes issues. All members<br />
receive a copy of their Viewpoint<br />
newsletter, which includes information<br />
and education on all aspects of diabetes<br />
and updates on local events, as well as<br />
local, national and international diabetes<br />
research.<br />
