The dream: I can give a very personal
recommendation for this house,
because I wrote about it for a major
feature in this magazine – and once
inside, I didn’t want to leave. Sitting
right on the banks of the River
Rother, the house is clad with black
weatherboarding, setting the tone
for its uber cool styling. As well as
the flowing interior space of the
main house there are three separate
buildings. Two are set up as ‘studio’
accommodation, which can be let
as Airbnb’s, the third is an office.
Where: In a quiet part of Rye,
within very easy walking distance
of all the delights of the centre
and the station, and just a few
seconds walk from the tennis club.
Setting: On the riverbank, looking
across to the marshes. Glorious.
Beds: 5 Baths: 4 (plus two
more of each in the studios).
Special features: The house is located at
tidal point of the river close to its mouth
in Rye Bay, so you could moor your boat
outside, with direct access to the sea.
Pleasing details: The fire pit overlooking
the river outside the main studio.
Outside: A timber-framed entertaining
loggia looking over the river and a jetty.
Time to town: Just over an hour,
changing at Ashford International
for the high speed to St Pancras.
