The concept for this editorial evolved all red as a color, wardrobe, makeup and nails.
I was planning this shoot with Nina for quite some time and we really wanted to get a model with
bangs and curl those bangs as you dont see that so often! I was considering this to be a test only, but by
the time I had all my ideas and styling pulled, I realized that this had potential to be a great editorial.
Gabrielle was the prefect model for this, exactly what we were looking for! And beautiful inside and
out, great personality, her poses were so inspiring and flattering! I think she has this exotic yet boyish
look that met my vision for this. Nina followed my mood board perfectly from A to Z.
So ultimately it’s the people I work with who are the most important source of inspiration for me.
I am very blessed to work with such talented people!

The new editorial Melodies of Summer by the
London based photography duo The Masons: is
a story that shows the feel good approach that
comes with Summer. It showcases The Masons
unique treatment of skin and photographic classic
framing with an edge, also Efe’s bold yet simple
styling, Elvira’s stripped back yet impactful make
up approach and Tifeny excels at expressing
herself through dance. The story captures the
beauty of summer silhouettes, with the help of both

Interview with LAURA MARANO
LUCY’S We heard you are having new projects coming up in music & film, can
you tell us more about them?
LAURA Yes! I actually got to combine both in an upcoming movie coming
out in December. To be honest, it’s pretty ridiculously adorable: it’s part of the
Cinderella story franchise, it takes place during Christmas, and it’s a musical. It’s
everything I’ve ever wanted.
LUCY’S Your new film ’Saving Zoe’ will be released on July 12, 2019. How does
that feel?
LAURA Saving Zoë is a project that is incredibly close to my heart. Not only
did I get to act in the movie with my sister, but my mom, sister and I produced
it, which is a first for all of us. We’ve been with the project for twelve years, so
having it finally come out —having the opportunity for people to finally see it —is
so rewarding.
LUCY’S What makes you the most excited about this film?
LAURA Honestly, there are so many things about this film that I’m excited about,
but I really am excited/nervous for people to see me embody a very different
character than they’re used to. Echo is quiet, introverted, and in the middle of
grieving her sister. It’s definitely one the darkest movies I’ve ever been in.

LUCY’S What was it like to become Echo from an emotional stand point?
LAURA Well, not only was becoming Echo emotionally taxing, but producing at
the same time was quite the challenge. We all didn’t get much sleep, so the whole
experience is a bit of a blur.
LUCY’S Social media has become such a big part of our lives. What does it feel
like to have such a big audience and to be able to reach millions of people every
day?
LAURA It’s crazy how globally connected we all have become through social
media. The fact that I get a direct connection to my fans from all over the world is
incredible. I am so grateful that some people want to hear what I have to say, but it
can be a little daunting at times. I just try to be as authentic as possible.
LUCY’S Was it music or acting that you realized you are passionate about first?
LAURA I have wanted to do music for as long as I can possibly remember, but
in the professional world, acting came first. I didn’t pursue music professionally
until much later. I really do just love creating, and any medium that lets me do that
makes me so happy.
LUCY’S What advice would you give to anyone wanting to start a career in acting?
LAURA Work hard on your craft. It can be hard to figure out how exactly to practice
acting —practicing a musical instrument or a sport can be a little more concrete —
but in some ways, it’s easier than ever. Look up a scene or monologue online as
much as you possibly can, and practice. I really do believe if you truly love acting,
you work hard, and you’re patient, it’s inevitable that you will succeed.

I was born in Nashville, Tennessee, and I have been visiting New York City
my entire life. Having just moved here in June, I wanted my first editorial to
capture the urban grit and energy that has always invigorated and inspired
me. The richness of New York City architecture has also been an inspiration.
While recently staying at a family friend’s apartment in the Village, I noticed
the windows and views exemplified all that I love about the city. I knew I

The word “power” has a significant importance for the full editorial.
The concept is focused on our way of escaping from the crowded
city and plastic lives.
At the beginning, it was Ecaterina’s idea which really intrigued me.
After that, the photographer and the stylist developed the concept
during a coffee break.
The main point of the shooting comes from the word “nature”. We
wanted to see everything really natural. Therefore, the hair had to
be really natural as well. The hairstylist knew the important parts
of the natural look and he gave us exactly what we had imagined.
After the first look, the shooting moved into a stronger direction.
Therefore we came up with new fresh make-up looks. The makeup
artist gave us this idea of splash method. We loved it!
It was amazing to see the he whole team looking at the same
concept but from different perspectives.

The Concept for the story
came from an idea that I
had about a girl with a free
spirit enjoying the warmth of
summertime.
I looked for a girl that could
give me that carefree
summertime vibe. I found
that in Lexi from The Syndical
Agency.
I also wanted the styling to
be relaxed and loose so
she could just move freely
and have fun. We just let
her move and I captured
moments that expressed her
inner and outer beauty.
Makeup and hair for this
was just “less is more”, just
easy hair and light makeup
palette. Colleen is very good
at bringing a natural/modern
feeling to the models looks.
Location was near a beautiful
beach in Miami and we
worked more in the fields
leading up to the beach
which worked out perfectly.
I love this editorial as Lexi
is so beautiful and we really
captured the moments that
we wanted.

Shanna Lucas is a 21 year-old portrait photographer from Austin, TX. Her interest
in creative expression brought her to the world of photography in 2015. Her love for
the PNW, in addition to natural light and capturing raw, candid moments, inspired
this set, “Amour de La Mer”. Shanna wished to capture these elements in a West
Coast editorial during her summer stay in Seattle, WA, and collaborated with

Julian
julian has such beautiful striking features and in
combination with the space and wardrobe, it was hard not
to be inspired. the wardrobe came together to compliment
the location effortlessly.
from natural to pops of color and black graphic shapes,
playing with makeup was a lot of fun.
brittani focused on quick changes in makeup to punctuate
each look that i created, using some of her go-to products
like viseart and stila. julian’s brows are naturally gorgeous
so they were filled in and brushed up using senna
cosmetics.
when it came down to the hair, we decided that we wanted
to emphasize the subtle waves in her hair and and keep
her looking retro with a modern day twist. she already
had great hair to begin with so evelyn added a little more
texture by defining her waves with a flat iron and using a bit of
oribe dry texturizing spray. we polished off the look by adding a
touch of oil and letting the elements do the rest.
we were able to shoot 9 looks in about 2 hours, which spoke to
our overall creative sync and hustle.

Girl in apartment 12 A was built around the idea of creating a 70s inspired
shoot, we wanted to give the editorial a modern edge adding the make up.
The concept behind the editorial is about a bored girl who lives alone in 12A,
running around her apartment building in different outfits because why not?

Nifah M is an openly bisexual, up-andcoming
model. She was gracious enough
to share her story about coming out and
some of the difficulties she's faced coming
out as a woman of colour.
She touches on the support out there for
women of colour in the LGBTQ community
and how specifically she has felt like
she can be herself and felt a sense of
family since going to UK Black Pride (@
ukblackpride/ https://www.ukblackpride.
org.uk/ukbp-2019).
Approaching this project, I intended to
spread awareness for the difficulties
faced by individuals of ethnic minority
backgrounds. I purposefully wanted to
document this from a first person’s point of
view using the words of Nifah herself. I also
wanted to ensure the visual elements, the
film and still imagery, were documented in
an uplifting way with the make-up & styling
with help from both Deborah and Kalisah
respectively.
Neo Management, who also act as Nifah’s
modelling agent, creatively produced
this project. Their aim is to open up the
conversation in diversity and they actively
do this by who they choose to manage,
which clients they choose to work with and
also the creative projects they decide to
involve themselves in.
