Back To School Season Is The
Perfect Time For Students &
Drivers To Think Safety
A new school year means new supplies, being
reunited with classmates, and meeting new
teachers.
And while we are all just as excited for our
kiddos as they are to embark on a new school
year, it is very important to talk with your
children about potential injuries and how to
avoid them. Helpful reminders include:
n Obey all traffic signals and rules.
Whether your child is riding a
bike, walking, or riding the bus to
school, make sure to go over all
the rules of the road, including
always crossing at a crosswalk.
n Practice school bus safety. Never
cross in front of a school bus
without first making eye contact
with the bus driver and waiting
for his or her signal. Stay out
of the street and arrive at the bus
stop early to avoid having to run,
and never stoop to tie your shoes
or pick up a dropped item in
front of the bus since the driver
will probably not be able to
see you.
n Never walk in between parked
cars. Even if you can see a car
coming, they can’t always
see you.
Just as we remind our little ones about safety,
we must also remind ourselves to be just as
cautious on the roads. Always remember:
n Train your brain to look out for
kids. Pay attention to the bus
stops in your neighborhood and
what time the bus driver picks up
in the morning and drops off in
the evening. Keep an eye out for
kids at intersections and cross
walks, especially near schools.
n Obey school zone speed limits
n Never pass a stopped school bus,
even if it does not have its stop
sign out or lights flashing.
Children could still be getting
on or off the bus and crossing
the street.
n Look twice before pulling out of a
driveway and never rely solely
your car’s backup camera or
sensors. Small children won’t
always be on your car’s radar,
so make sure to double check
your blind spots.
n Don’t be a distracted driver.
Drive as if your own child were
at risk: stay off of your phone,
keep your eyes on the road, and
pay attention.

compañeros de clase que ahora volvemos a ver y
los nuevos maestros que vamos a conocer.
Y es verdad que todos estamos bien emocionados
porque nuestros pequeños están a punto de
empezar un nuevo ciclo escolar, pero es muy
importante que platique con sus hijos acerca de
las posibles lesiones que podrían sufrir y decirles
también cómo evitarlas. Algunas cosas útiles que
debemos recordar incluyen:
n Obedecer todas las señales y reglas
de tránsito. Independientemente
de que usted lleve en carro a su hijo
a la escuela, que el niño camine
o que viaje en el camión escolar,
asegúrese de repasar todas las
reglas que hay que respetar en
el camino, incluyendo el tener que

center that provided educational
and social programs for the
community,” said Margie. “I
loved working at Neighborhood
s so much that I would go
10 hours in each
to 70
camps, SAT prep,
utility assistance,
tax and financial
educational
programs, and even
help for caregivers
are all offered
for free or for a
small membership
fee. We are
especially excited
to participate in
the Cleveland
Campus’ Annual
Back to School
Health Fair on
August 3rd at 8am.

Teníamos una clienta que sufrió un accidente en
donde otro carro le chocó en un costado, justo en
el centro de su vehículo al pasar por un cruce.
Nuestra clienta no sabía si iba a poder pagar las
citas de terapia con su propio dinero ni estaba
segura si iba a poder encontrar algún lugar en
donde sí aceptaran su aseguranza. Luego, el
Ajustador de la Aseguranza empeoró las cosas al
informarle que sólo le iban a pagar el tratamiento
médico por unas cuantas semanas, pero el doctor
ya le había dicho a ella que se necesitaban, por lo
menos, 10 semanas para recuperarse. Afortunadamente,
nuestra firma le pudo encontrar un
lugar que le brindó las atenciones y cuidados que
necesitaba sin tener que gastar todo su dinero.
Logramos hacer que la Aseguranza pagara todas
y cada una de las citas para Terapia Física y que
le cubriera el tiempo que necesitaba para ausentarse
de su trabajo, además de una compensación
por Daños y Sufrimiento.
When our client was t-boned at an intersection,
she wasn’t sure how she was going to manage
paying out of pocket for physical therapy
appointments and wasn’t sure if she would
be able to find any places that accepted her
insurance. The insurance adjuster was giving her
a hard time by saying that they would only pay
for medical treatment for a few weeks, but the
doctor told our client that she would need at least
10 weeks to recover. Luckily our office was able to
find a place that could get her the care she
needed without her having to spend her own
money. We got the insurance company to pay for
all of the physical therapy appointments as well
as cover the time she needed off of work, in
addition to pain and
suffering.

Edith and I travel quite a bit and each time
we are in a different city, we tend to use Lyft
or Uber since it is so convenient. When an
accident happens in an Uber or other rideshare
vehicle like a shuttle or taxi, it can be
extremely difficult to figure out who is going
to pay for your injuries. There are usually
multiple insurance companies and trying
to locate a police report when you may not
even know where you are can seem next to
impossible. We handle Uber and rideshare
car accidents and would be happy to help
you (even if your accident happened outside
of Texas, we can help to make sure you are
protected). Don’t sign anything from Uber,
Lyft or the taxi company; come to us first so
you know your rights are protected.
Bonus: Here are some secret tips to
saving money when using Uber or
Lyft:
1. Choose the best pick-up location. You may
be aware of surge pricing. It usually happens
after a large event lets out and the demand
is high for rides. Walking a few blocks away
from the venue will not only allow you to
be found easier since you’re away from the
crowd, but you might be able to avoid surge
pricing altogether by giving yourself distance
from the event.
2. Search your destination in Google Maps
first, since it will provide you with a price
comparison between Uber, Lyft, and any
other rideshare options available.

Edith’s Coctel de Camarón
Mexican-style Shrimp Cocktail
It’s not uncommon for our entire office to eat together at lunch. But the best days
are when Edith cooks for everyone an amazing meal to enjoy, like this amazing
dish featuring shrimp and a lot of love!
INGREDIENTS
n 1lb (small or medium) shrimp, deveined
and cooked
n 1 cup ketchup
n 1 cup of fresh squeeze lemon juice
n 1 cup of orange juice
n 1 cup of orange soda
n 1 small can of Chipotle Peppers
n 1 bottle of clam juice
n 1 red tomato
n ½ cucumber, remove seeds and cubed
n ½ cup of chopped red onion
n 1 bunch chopped cilantro
n 3 serrano peppers, chopped
n Salt and pepper to taste
n Diced avocado, lemons and saltine crackers
for serving
DIRECTIONS
1. Using a blender, mix the contents of the
can of chipotle peppers and the cup of
orange soda.
2. In a bowl or container Mix the ketchup,
clam juice, orange juice and lemon juice.
3. Using a colander, pour the blended
mixture of the chipotle peppers and the
orange soda and add to the mix from Step 2
and mix well.
4. Add the tomato, cucumber, red onion,
cilantro and serrano pepper and mix well.
Add more ketchup for consistency and salt
and pepper to taste.
5. Add the shrimp and avocado and mix well.
6. Serve immediately or chill in the
refrigerator for later. Serve with saltine
crackers or tortilla chips.

If the adjuster is extremely kind and
sounds worried about your condition,
beware. This is a tactic to get you to trust
him. He may say things like, “I’m so sorry to
hear what you are going through,” or “I am
going to do everything in my power to make
this right,” or “Don’t worry, we are going to
get everything squared away as quickly as
possible.” It is easy to appreciate what seems
like a genuine tone of voice and a genuine
desire to help … but take it with a grain of
salt. At the end of the day, that adjuster’s sole
job is to save his company as much money as
possible, which means giving you as little as
possible.
