Mergon is an investment group that exists to do business
with purpose, in doing so creating Kingdom impact and
equipping others to do the same.
With this in mind, and to affect the most impact, we consist
of three entities: Mergon Invest, Mergon Foundation and
Nation Builder.
Mergon Invest succeeds because we are

Mergon Foundation exists to deploy our

of Christ whilst caring for, uplifting, and

Nation Builder
was borne from
a steadfast
belief in South
Africa’s future
and business’
important role
in generating
change.
Established by Mergon in 2008, Nation Builder was founded to affect
positive social change on a local front. It is a not-for-profit trust that
inspires and equips the private and corporate sectors to spearhead
socio-economic development and promote social cohesion in our nation.
Nation Builder provides free best-in-industry resources and tools,
an interactive peer-learning community, and collaborative learning
opportunities with like-minded businesses. This learning and
knowledge sharing requires a holistic view where NPOs, businesses and
communities on the ground contribute to the richness of the content.

OUR JOURNEY
The Mergon Group was founded in 1980 by Francois van Niekerk through
the establishment of an IT company, Infotech, with less than R1000 in capital.
Within nine months, the company ran out of capital, and faced bankruptcy. In
desperation, Francois made a vow that he would give 30% of
the business for the expansion of the Kingdom if the Lord helped him.
God miraculously intervened and the company was saved. From these humble
beginnings, Francois and the Mergon team went on to establish several
successful businesses in partnership with like-minded entrepreneurs.
This approach, together with God’s unmerited favour, has resulted in Mergon
achieving sustained, above-market returns for nearly 40 years. Francois followed
through on the 30% commitment by placing the shares in an independent trust:
the Mergon Foundation Trust. In response to Christ’s continued grace, the Van
Niekerk family has increased the Mergon Foundation’s ownership in the group
to 70%.
Today, Mergon funds over 100 strategic, impactful ministries - each one
committed to transforming the lives of people both practically and spiritually as
they seek to expand God’s Kingdom. Mergon also encourages and equips other
business leaders to make a difference through its Nation Builder initiative, and
Francois’ book, Doing Business with Purpose.
