The prestigious EIFS Hero Awards honor a wide variety of projects that
exemplify the unique attributes of exterior insulation and finish systems
(EIFS). The award winning projects represent the best in the continuous
insulation (CI) industry, all examples of exceptional architecture, and are
most definitely heroes hidden in plain sight
The winners of the 2018 EIFS Hero awards were acknowledged at an
awards ceremony during the industry-wide annual meeting of the EIFS
Industry Members Association (EIMA) held in March 2019.
We invite you to delight in the design excellence of these award winning,

EIFS HERO OF THE YEAR

High Point, NC
Located in High Point, North Carolina (the “furniture capital of the world”), this project
displays collections of furniture that attract entry-level to high-end consumers.
Specially engineered scaffolding was created by Southern Wall Systems to
accommodate the compound curving at the top of the 30 foot by 70 foot panels.
The bold design clearly demonstrates the design flexibility that can be accomplished
by using EIFS, and the project is most deserving of the honor and recognition of the
2018 EIFS Hero of the Year Award.

Envision a chalet, built on the side of a mountain,
that looks nothing like what you would imagine.
The owner of this custom home wanted a modern
look with clean lines. He also wanted the exterior
to have the appearance of wood without having
wood’s maintenance, and the look of metal
without the cost of metal panels. For this project,
the designer recognized that EIFS was the perfect
solution. What an architectural statement!

This project was a ‘makeover’ of an existing
building and utilized the EIFS panelization
process. To achieve the appealing appearance of
brick and granite, innovative finishes of the EIFS
manufacturer were used.

The developers of this project wanted it to be
pleasing to the eye, while accommodating the
new vision for mixed-use. It needed to be a true
centerpiece that would attract the contemporary
retailers and restaurants that younger generations
seek. By using EIFS, the wide array of architectural
accents and features the design team and owner
envisioned were easily and affordably able to be
constructed. This project is a true testament to
the fact that there is virtually nothing you cannot
accomplish by using EIFS.

KEAN UNIVERSITY - FRESHMAN RESIDENCE HALL
Union, NJ
This project is a hybrid EIFS project with 80 percent of it being constucted with
panelization and the remainder with the manufacturer’s brick panel finish.
The design and appearance of the project blended nicely with the surrounding
buildings, which are a part of this college’s campus. This classic EIFS project is
sure to stand the test of time.

AC HOTEL BY MARRIOTT TAMPA WESTSHORE

The architects for this project wanted to combine the look of stone and metal in unique colors that would mimic the salt
beds endemic to this popular Hawaiian destination. The cost, if natural and native materials were specified, was too great to
construct the project. By using EIFS, the project owner and architect were able to build it as they envisioned, with a timeless,
indigenous design.
The handsome design of this project features crisp, clean white finishes and wood-appearance panels as an
accent. EIFS, naturally, was an easy choice for the white sand finishes, but the wood finish was a particular
challenge due to the complex detailing and integration to include continuous insulation. The solution was a
no-brainer, EIFS was the true hero hidden in plain sight.

This healthcare facility utilized EIFS, plus a fluid-applied air and water barrier, to achieve maximum energy efficiency.
Additionally, a very bright blue, the signature color of the project owner, was easliy attainable due to the versatility of
color enhancement provided by the EIFS manufacturer. To top it off, the integration of the curtain wall with EIFS was
nothing less than masterful.

What makes this project so special is the
complexity and uniqueness of the EIFS
aesthetic grooves. The multiple compound
radius curves make the design of this indoor
skydiving facility stand out. The aesthetically
intricate curves were laid out using math
calculations, string and marker, and then cut
freehand into the foam insulation. The eyecatching,
vibrant colors are a unique design
solution easily attainable by using EIFS.
This project features the EIFS panelization
process. Using this process allowed the
construction team to install the panels to
accommodate an innovative design, while
meeting an aggressive schedule. Use of the
panels allowed the construction team to
install windows right after a section was
completed, rather than waiting for the entire
application to be finished. This EIFS project
stands out for many reasons, including its
unique design, attractive finish, and rapid
completion.

With the flexibility to meet virtually unlimited design goals,
EIFS buildings are everywhere you thought they weren’t.
Providing more than you ever thought they could.
This project is a slender
32-story tower, with an
abundance of smoky glass
windows, alternating with
vertical strips that have the look
and feel of traditional limestone.
While the stone at the base of
the building is manufactured
limestone panels, the cladding
on the upper floors of this 300
foot high building is EIFS. The
specialty finish limestone saved
the project owner’s budget,
without sacrificing their desire
to achieve an authenitc look
with curb appeal.
