within 55 km of Castlegar that would benefit from using their
Celgrow soil amendment. Pastures and hay fields are good options.
Mercer Celgar will cover the costs of a qualified professional performing
soil sampling, obtaining government authorization and
delivery costs of Celgrow soil amendment based on access with a
large truck/pup combination. Acreage should be able to accommodate
at least 6 truck/pup loads. The two major components of
Celgrow are individual wood fibres lost from the pulping process
and surplus bacteria from the wastewater biological treatment
facility. Wood fibres enhance soil moisture retention and bacteria
are a good source of soil nutrients. The landowner is responsible
for spreading and incorporating Celgrow into their soil.

Elizabeth Planidin November 21 1927 – August 5, 2019
Elizabeth Planidin, nee Shoustoff,
passed peacefully on August 5th
at the young age of 91. Elizabeth
was born on November 21, 1927 in
Salmo, BC.
She wa
husban
with wife Debra from Kaslo BC;
Charlotte Planidin, deceased
September 2016; and Jordan
Planidin, deceased January 1997. She
also leaves behind five grandchildren,
ten great-grandchildren and two
great-great-grandchildren.
She was a mother and caregiver to so
many more in the Salmo community.
Taking care of others was a regular
part of Mom’s life. Mom lived her
whole life in Salmo – she was born,
raised, married, and raised her own
family there. Mom was also an avid
gardener, with both huge vegetable
and flower gardens, which were
always prolific and weed free. Mom
e,
busy, knitting, crocheting, quilting
and sewing, sometimes into all hours
of the night. Earlier in her life, as a
young family, they spent a lot of time
outside, huckleberry picking and
fishing.
Mom’s heart was always in Salmo,
even though she spent the last year
of her life in the Cottonwoods Care
Facility in Kelowna, just to be closer
to Kim and Debra. Mom was one of
those special women who, when you
meet, opens her arms to welcome
you in. A very genuine, caring and
compassionate women, she will be
deeply missed by us all.
A graveside reception was held for
Mom on August 10 at Boulder Creek
Cemetery in Salmo, where she was
buried with her parents, her children

BILL ROLLS
Bill Rolls of Kaslo passed away on August 7, 2019, much to the sorrow
of his family and friends. He was born on May 12, 1927 in Toronto,
and resided there with his family. He and his first wife, Joan, moved
to British Columbia in the summer of 2001.
Joan passed away in 2010.
Bill married Margaret Dallyn in Kaslo on August 10, 2013, and
they enjoyed a happy life together for 6 years. Bill had many hobbies,
including stamp collecting and photography. He enjoyed fishing,
golfing, skiing, and curling.
Bill is survived by his wife, Margaret, his two daughters, Debbie
Gibson and Katelyn Porter, six grandchildren, and thirteen greatgrandchildren.
Many thanks to his family and friends who have
helped us through this time of sorrow.
