Regina Minor Football and Leibel Field

The late Charlie Leibel Sr. began minor football in 1955, two teams (the Kramer Kats and the CKCK

Mighty Mites) played at half time at rider games. Soon the Queen City Minor Football League grew to

over 300 boys age 6-12, and the City donated property by what is now the Science Center. After moving

from the original field to the present location, the City named it Leibel Field. In 1985 the league was

named Regina Minor Football and in 1999 the name was changed to Regina Minor Football 2000 Inc.

From 1999 through 2017 the league has grown, and now has anywhere from 1600 to over 2000 players

each year. Regina Minor Football 2000 Inc. now has a High School Spring League, Thunder Junior Spring

School, Girls in the Game camp, an Elite U16 South Sask. Team, the Gear Up Mighty Mites (8 & 9 yr

olds), Atom (10 & 11 yr olds), Peewee (12 & 13 yr olds), and Bantam (14 & 15 yr olds) Divisions.

Spearheaded by Regina Minor Football 2000 Inc., Leibel Field was renovated in 2011 with artificial turf,

state of the art lighting, and a score clock (phase 1). The Regina Minor Football Board had a vision of

providing a facility that would allow players, coaches and spectators to experience the true atmosphere

of football. With donation dollars coupled with sponsorship, RMF completed the 2 nd phase with a 1200

seat bleacher system, full service elevated press box, PA and sound system, video camera tower,

wireless headsets for coaches, on-site concession building, referee change room, storage room

complete with an all-terrain Bobcat service vehicle, Drummond Wall of Honour recognition display and a

covered decorative main entrance with ticket wickets.

The 3 rd phase of renovations was completed in February 2018. A new Regina Minor Football

Headquarters was built in the north end zone of Leibel Field. This project has completed the Leibel

Field renovation for the time being. The facility has dressing rooms, office space, a class room, board

room, deck and an equipment room.

The building is generational and will be an asset to the City of Regina and the citizens for over 100 years.

The facility enhances Wascana Park, which is a gem in the middle of Regina. RMF is now looking for

partners and sponsors to help pay for this project. If you or your company is interested in being part of

the Legacy, contact Len Antonini for information. rmf@reginaminorfootball.ca or 306-535-4111

and no benefit will accrue to me (or related parties) as a result of my donation. I confirm that this donation does not or will not reduce

any obligation, directly or indirectly that I (or related parties) have for “non qualifying” expenses .such as membership, training, or
