This is Not Berlin continues to

do well, so I decided to chat with

Xabiani about the film, days in

Disney and his upcoming projects.

It’s hard to stand out as an actor

during a film festival such as

Outfest where over 150 films are

screened within nine days. But

Xabiani Ponce de León did just

that with director Hari Sama’s film,

“This is Not Berlin.” After making

his film debut in Malaventura,

Xabiani became well-known for

Modesty aside, how would you

describe yourself?

An introverted boy has a hard time

making friends but when he gets

confidence he can be intense.

You got your start on Disney

Channel and you are now a leading

to make a transition that few

actors manage successfully?

I have been looking for a project

like this for a long time, after being

at Disney they continued offering

me children’s projects, I believe

that the key is to be objective,

knowing how to say no, not grabbing

a project that will take me

away from where I want to go, continue

looking for it, I want it and

with Hari.

Did you think that it would become

such a celebrated film?

I really didn’t think it was going to

come out so soon and it was going

to have such a good impact.

How was it working with director

Hari Sama?

Working with Hari was a great

experience, he is a great director,

very professional, very human, I

like the way he works, he is a Zen

rockstar.

‘You new film, ‘This is Not Berlin’

which premiered at the Sundance

Film Festival and screened at the

Tribeca Film Festival has been a

huge hit. How did you land the

leading role, Carlos?

I got to the movie thanks to the

producer, I knew him before and

he invited me to the casting, I went

to the casting and then I went to a

couple of improvisation exercises

How did you prepare for the role?

I was working with Hari to find the

essential wound of Carlos, find the

similarities with the character, the

transition from the school to the

Aztek, understand the historical

context in which the characters

live.

This is Not Berlin recently screened

at the Outfest Los Angeles LGBTQ+

Film Festival. Was it meaningful for

you to have the film screened at

the world’s biggest LGBTQ film festival?

It was a big surprise that the

movie was at Outfest, I would have

loved to be there!

Tell me about your fans when they

recognize you in public.

Most people who recognize me are

children; they usually ask for a

photo, it’s going to be funny to see

the movie after watching Disney!

What’s new on your play list?

Band of skulls, Cleopatrick.

Do you have any upcoming project(s)?

Now I’m doing a series for Netflix,

in October I start a series in

Miami, can’t say much.

Last year The American Veterans organization,

or AMVETS , was accused of being tone deaf

when they released a print ad submitted for

free inclusion in the Super Bowl LII program

— but was rejected by the NFL.

The ad features soldiers carrying aloft the

American flag with two simple words: “Please

stand.”

Tom Swann Hernandez plans to give

President Donald Trump a silver challenge

coin (similar to above) of the new

California LGBTQ Veterans Memorial

at the 75th annual AMVETS national

convention on August 21 in Louisville,

Kentucky. Trump will address the 2,500

delegates at 2:00 PM. This will be the first

President Trump on Wednesday

signed a memorandum directing

the Department of Education to

eliminate all federal student loan

debt owed by tens of thousands of

severely disabled veterans.

Trump signed the directive following a speech

to AMVETS at the organization's 75th annual

convention in Kentucky. The announcement

drew applause from those in attendance.

Challenge coins will also be given to the

AMVETS national commander, national

executive director and national programs director

Harry Neal. Coins will be given to last year’s

California Department Commander and the

executive director of AMVETS in California.

Veterans advocate and long-time lobbyist for

veteran causes Pete Conaty of Sacramento will

be presented with an award plaque at whichever

California delegation huddle the Department

Commander approves.

The tribes Native American Tribes that

live along the coastal water and river

valleys of the Pacific Northwest were

primarily hunters and gatherers. The

natural resources of the areas from

the forests and sea provide well for the

people living in the area. The art of these

people was made from and reflected

the available geographical.resources.

Animals of the region are represented

in their art, bears, eagles, salmon,

wolves, hummingbirds, killer whales,

and even frogs are among the animals

characterized. Drawings and paintings

along with wood carving, utilizing the

abundant wood of the area comprised

the major media for creation of art. The

animals,as main topics of the art, were

creatures such as the thunderbird and the

sea serpent creature known as sisitutil.

The totem pole was a characteristic of

Northwestern Tribes along the Pacific

the early 1800's Archeologist believe

that totem poles were first made in

they were made of wood, many earlier

totem poles had deteriorated when the

Europeans came upon them in the 1800s.

Masks carved of wood with added

were part of the composition. Masks

were used in ceremonial rituals. One

THE LAST WORD

This map is also a stunning

realization of why the electoral

college is broken. The system was

designed to protect the states so they

have a SAY IN GOVERNMENT. But

it's broken by our 2 party system and

has to rely more and more on less

educated people to see their message

win.

The result is they cater that message

to those less educated. But the result

is they pander to the fears, hopes and

dreams of the less educated.

Today, the actual needs of the states

are secondary to the party. One thing

to note is higher populated the sates

become more blue. This growth

is noted and used by local politics

to develop a new party agenda. Its

getting harder to know if the person

you elect is aligned with your needs

or the Party.

The Trump presidency is not really

a Democrat or Republican strategy

and to the extent he is pulling

Republicans into his world, we are all

at risk.

Trump is working in a past that

never really was. It's like the plot of

Funny Farm, his base grew up from

"Leave it to Beaver" to the "Brady

Bunch", where the ends always

justified the means. Today, TV is

more like we all do the right things

and still die in a horrible car crash.

For the current generation was raised

by the WW II and depression era

generation. They believe in myths,

and believe the Constitution will save

them in the end, so they have little

fear. But once again, we are seeing

the results of money over people, and

the world is coming apart because

they all depend on us.
