Welcome to the <strong>Autumn</strong> Season<br />

at The <strong>SandPit</strong> <strong>Theatre</strong>, which promises<br />

to be an exciting season offering<br />

something for everyone with a great<br />

variety of shows, events and workshops.<br />

We are thrilled to be bringing back<br />

Paddleboat <strong>Theatre</strong> Company for their<br />

brand new family show,<br />

Clare Hollingworth and the Scoop of<br />

the Century, based on the true story of<br />

one of the most important writers of our<br />

time, filled with daring, intrigue and an<br />

invasion that would rock the world!<br />

We are also thrilled to be bringing<br />

St Albans, the acclaimed “Fantastic,<br />

Farcical, Fun...” production of The<br />

Hound of the Baskervilles: The Hit<br />

Farce as part of their second national<br />

tour! This is sure to be a hilarious night<br />

out as two fearless actors play every role<br />

in this fast paced farce!<br />

Christmas is quickly approaching and<br />

when Darcey wakes up on Christmas<br />

morning, she finds a sparkly tree, a<br />

stocking full of presents and a Reindeer<br />

on the Roof! Hodgepodge <strong>Theatre</strong><br />

present a magical Christmas show for<br />

the whole family!<br />

THE LITTLE DIGGERS<br />

The ‘Little Diggers’ is the<br />

<strong>SandPit</strong>’s scheme for<br />

children, with theatre<br />

performances, workshops<br />

and film screenings aimed<br />

specifically for 3-8yr olds<br />

and their families.<br />

We aim to engage young people in the<br />

arts through affordable, exciting events<br />

they can enjoy, and often participate<br />

in. The scheme includes performances<br />

from a wide variety of styles - ranging<br />

from nationally renowned theatre<br />

companies to local intimate<br />

performances from Hertfordshire’s best<br />

theatre makers, well-known film<br />

releases to small arts and crafts<br />

workshops. Participation can vary<br />

from meeting the theatre characters<br />

for a photograph, to making their own<br />

puppets to take home after a puppetry<br />

performance, or getting stuck in with<br />

our themed crafts workshops!<br />

Little Digger shows are recognisable by<br />

the logo which is displayed on the<br />

posters, making it easy for parents to<br />

see which performances are suitable.<br />

6pm (Sat), 12pm & 4pm (Sun)<br />

Showcasing a variety of song and dance<br />

numbers of all styles, with a sparkling array of<br />

colourful costumes. The audience is taken on<br />

a great adventure into the future to be part of<br />

this mysterious Legend.<br />

An exciting new play and dazzling production<br />

for their talented students ranging in age<br />

from 3 to adults.<br />

Exhibition on Screen - Leonardo: The Works<br />

Sunday 10th November 3:00pm<br />

Marking the 500th anniversary of Leonardo’s death: for the first time ever, all of Leonardo’s<br />

paintings will be shown on the big screen.<br />

Leonardo da Vinci is acclaimed as the world’s favourite artist. Many TV shows and feature films<br />

have showcased this extraordinary genius but often not examined closely enough is the most<br />

crucial element of all: his art. Leonardo’s peerless paintings and drawings will be the focus of<br />

Leonardo: The Works, as EXHIBITION ON SCREEN presents every single attributed painting on<br />

the big screen.<br />

OCTOBER HALF TERM<br />

Booster Cushion <strong>Theatre</strong> presents<br />

Goldilocks and the Three Bears Plus......<br />

Tuesday 29th October 11:30am<br />

This comical story is retold through a massive 6ft tall book<br />

complete with pop ups and props coming out of the book!<br />

Big Goldilocks wanders off from her parents into the<br />

forest but soon gets lost, getting hungry, grumpy and tired.<br />

The forest animals decide to escape before she gets even<br />

more grumpy on an Animal Rescue Centre which flies high<br />

throughout the skies! Goldilocks arrives at the Three Bears<br />

house for a big bowl of cereal but soon it’s up to the<br />

audience to help scare her away…<br />

Ideal for 4 to 8 year olds and their families<br />

NOVEMBER<br />

Welwyn Harmony and<br />

The Kings of Herts presents<br />

An Evening of<br />

Musical Delight<br />

Friday 29th & Saturday 30th November<br />

7:30pm<br />

Come and enjoy the beautiful A Cappella<br />

singing of Welwyn Harmony ladies and the<br />

men of Kings of Herts for an evening of songs<br />

old and new, with a seasonal twist.<br />

Hear Welwyn Harmony celebrate 30 years of<br />

joyous singing along with the Kings of Herts,<br />

who have been singing for 33 years, and<br />

join in the after show fun in the bar with both<br />

choruses.<br />

End of Year Showcase<br />

and Awards<br />

Sunday 1st December 3:00pm<br />

SW-Dance present an afternoon full of fun<br />

and dance with students performing a range<br />

of choreography from the streetdance,<br />

contemporary and freestyle genres.<br />

The afternoon will conclude with the infamous<br />

golden envelope awards, which is a fantastic<br />

opportunity to celebrate and recognise the<br />

amazing talent within SW-DANCE.<br />

Work Experience here at The <strong>SandPit</strong> <strong>Theatre</strong><br />

Here at The <strong>SandPit</strong> <strong>Theatre</strong> we offer work experience to all young people looking for a week’s<br />

work placement in the arts. During the placement you will take part in multiple activities varying<br />

from training on equipment, operating lighting and sound, theatre maintenance and learning how<br />

the day to day operations of the theatre work. This opportunity is open to all students from Year<br />

10 through 13 and also includes students studying at college due to the nature of the work.<br />

What does a relaxed screening mean?<br />

- The volume of the film is slightly lowered<br />

- The low level lights are left on<br />

Today it is reported that a young, intrepid Tickets: journalist £8 crossed & £6 over the border<br />

from Poland to Germany. There, she Family saw something Ticket (4 that people) would £24 change her<br />

life and history forever…<br />

It’s Christmas morning and Darcey wakes up to a sparkly tree, a stocking full of presents<br />

and a Reindeer on the roof!<br />

Why is the Reindeer here? Shouldn’t it be with Santa and all the other Reindeer? Is it lost? Without<br />

the other Reindeer and Santa’s sleigh, how will it ever get home? Join Darcey on her epic<br />

adventure to get her new Reindeer friend back to Lapland where he belongs and discover the true<br />

meaning of Christmas along the way…<br />

A magical Chritmas show coming this year to The <strong>SandPit</strong> <strong>Theatre</strong> performed by Hodgepodge<br />

<strong>Theatre</strong> Company, this show is a relaxed family show aimed at ages 3+, perfect to bring a bit of<br />

affordable Christmas magic to the season!

GETTING HERE AND PARKING<br />

Location: The <strong>SandPit</strong> <strong>Theatre</strong> is<br />

situated in the grounds of<br />

Sandringham School, approximately a<br />

1.5 mile walk from St.Albans City train<br />

station and the town centre where there<br />

are several bus routes.<br />

Parking: The school car park is<br />

available and free, but does get very<br />

busy. There are 2 main car parks, the<br />

first entered by the main gate, the second<br />

entered by the top gate (marked<br />

deliveries) and an overflow car park to<br />

the rear of the theatre. If the car park<br />

is full, the majority of the surrounding<br />

residential roads are all free parking.<br />

ACCESSIBILITY<br />

We aim to offer our disabled<br />

customers the same experiences as all<br />

other people.<br />

Our front row is floor level and reserved<br />

for customers with access<br />

requirements. These seats can be<br />

purchased over the phone or in person.<br />

Customers can also buy a companion’s<br />

seat at the same rate.<br />

For non-allocated performances, if you<br />

have a disability that requires specific<br />

seats, please do contact us. For<br />

allocated performances we reserve the<br />

front row for those with access needs<br />

and a companion.<br />

Assistance dogs are welcome.<br />

Babes in Arms: The <strong>SandPit</strong><br />

<strong>Theatre</strong> encourages access for all. An<br />

infant aged below 2 years, will need<br />

to be accomodated on the parent or<br />

carer’s lap as no seat will be allocated.<br />

There will be no charge for this.<br />

Condition of Sale: We will<br />

‘exchange’ tickets for another<br />

performance to the same value or give<br />

a credit note to redeem against a show<br />

in the future.<br />

The ‘no refunds policy’ remains the<br />

same; patrons are requested to check<br />

their tickets at the time of purchase.<br />

Tickets for sell-out shows may be<br />

accepted by the Box Office for<br />

resale on behalf of the customer but<br />

no responsibility is accepted nor sale<br />

guaranteed. Any tickets sold on will be<br />

given a credit note to redeem against a<br />

show in the future.<br />

Please note the booking fee and<br />

transaction fee are non-refundable<br />

under any circumstances; this includes<br />

the cancellation of a show.<br />
