INTRODUCING A NEW

DIMENSION IN SMART

HOMES

Busch-Jaeger celebrates 140 th anniversary at IFA

in style with new “interconnected” products

Busch-Jaeger is presenting its interpretation of the future

in smart home and smart building technology at IFA with

some exciting innovations. A market leader in Germany for

electrical wiring technology, the firm is celebrating its 140th

birthday with new products based around the concept of

“interconnectedness”.

In May this year, Busch-Jaeger proved

its commitment to sustainability and

the use of renewable resources with

its “Mission to Zero” project at its

headquarters in western Germany.

With the help of technology from

Swiss automation and power pioneer

ABB, Busch-Jaeger’s photovoltaic

power plant achieved almost entirely

carbon-neutral production.

The Smart Home Configurator’s

intuitive interface allows users

to choose their own settings for

the smart home — even for entire

residential complexes — by providing

an overview of the buildings through

the various design phases, thus

producing inventories and sketch

plans.

The highlight of the new line-up,

though, is set to be the Alarm Stick,

deployed as an extension of the

Busch-free@home Access Point.

Revolutionising home safety, it can be

used in conjunction with the brand’s

smoke detector and the upcoming

carbon monoxide detector when both

are integrated into the smart home

automation.

With the latest IP technology, the

7-inch Busch-Welcome IP Touch

Panel is another addition to the

security roster, simplifying door

communication at home and in

business. Featuring an outdoor

camera unit for speedy identification

of visitors, it can be integrated into

the Busch-free@home smart home

system to double up as another home

automation interface.

The certified partnership with smart

sound system company Sonos has

produced the Busch-ControlTouch

KNX. Wireless Sonos speakers can be

integrated into the system via voice

commands into the miniscule Busch-

ControlTouch device, which connects

the KNX to the smart home’s IP

network.

Busch-Jaeger rounds these highly

scalable technologies off with its

new open API platform, which offers

the ability to integrate third-party

services — so far, Miele and Bosch —

into its existing Busch-free@home

smart home innovations, creating

a seamless and practical domestic

experience for the user’s everyday life.

On Friday 6 September, Busch-

Jaeger CEO Adalbert Neumann took

part major celebrations, along with

a “cake cutting” ceremony, at the

company’s stand, accompanied by his

head of Marketing & Communication,

Christiane Schulte.

In one of the first examples

of its open API platform in

practice, ABB – from Busch

Jaeger – has been working

alongside the iHomeLab of

the Lucerne University of

Applied Sciences and Arts to

pioneer a personalised virtual

assistant.

The “My Life, My Way”

project is the first project

of its kind to use ABB’s new

open API platform to provide

an alternative means of

holistic care.

Designed to help large groups

of residents, the project was

implemented by iHomeLab

and bonacasa Smart Living,

together with a number

of international partners.

The project uses a virtual

assistant, which supports

assisted living in bonacasa

apartments in Switzerland,

implemented by the ABBfree@home

system.

Called Anne, the virtual

assistant interacts with

residents through voice

control or a tablet.
