FRIENDLY CITIES AND

COMMUNITIES

Would you like the chance to advise us on how our local services and

communities can be improved?

We’re recruiting for the Unicef Child Friendly Cities and Communities Youth

Panel. Child Friendly is a community where the voices, needs, priorities and

rights of children and young people are considered and taken seriously.

The first meeting and training session will take place on Wed 17th July 4.30-

7pm and Thurs 18th July 1.30-5.30pm.

YOUTH ART GALLERY -

GARDEN OF REFLECTION

Throughout 2019 there is a

dedicated youth art gallery

in the Garden of Reflection

to celebrate the creativity

and achievements of young

people here.

There will be artwork

from schools, community

and voluntary sector, arts

organisations and individuals

and will include painting,

drawing, photography,

fashion, video and audio.

NW MINISTRY OF YOUTH

Would you like the opportunity to be involved in decisions that affect you and

have your voice heard?

Setup by local young people the North West Ministry of Youth will be the

voice for the young people of the North West to create change here for

the better. The voices of young people truly matter and this programme

will develop leaders to promote diversity, tackle discrimination while

championing issues that are important to you. By becoming a Youth

Councillor you will deliver on the Youth Manifesto, take part in residentials and

study visits and take part in a range of training.

The NW Ministry of Youth will be delivered by Cooperation Ireland and the

Education Authority.

Recruitment will take place during August & September 2019 for an October

2019 launch!

COUCH TO 5K AND

COLOUR RUN

The second Couch to 5k and Colour Run for Youth 19 will give young people

the chance to get active, explore different cultures and take part in an epic

Colour Run.

The 6 week training programme is part of a 6 month programme which will

take you from couch to 5k ahead of the colour run.

This programme is targeted at local youth clubs and delivered in partnership

with Sports Development, Community and Voluntary Sector Youth Services

and the Education Authority.

shared spaces, take a lead in consulting with your peers and work with a

consultant to assess if Derry/ Londonderry and Strabane should develop a

Youth Zone within the district.

CULTURAL DIVERSITY

The Discover-Connect and Belong project will involve young people with the

big issues of our time. Designed to stimulate new ideas on culture, religion,

politics, communities and tribes in NI. The project is aimed at reaching

out to young people from all backgrounds with a wide range of activities

that include debates, intercultural dialogue workshops, cultural exchange,

education visits to cultural museums, political institutions and through

cultural celebration events including art, dance and intercultural foods.

AMBASSADOR'S

PROGRAMME

Would you like to take control of professional development and personal

growth?

The Government Ambassador’s Programme aims to match young employees

with mentors, within their own organisations, to build their capacity and

confidence by enabling them to take responsibility for their own learning,

development, progression and personal growth.

The programme provides training for Mentors and mentees covering topics

such as Good Relations, Personal Effectiveness, Decision-Making & Problem

Solving, Competency Based Interviews, Presentation Skills and Introduction

to Child Rights (UNICEF). All of the training within the programme is

completely free.

Mentoring is an excellent way to invest in the leaders of tomorrow through

facilitating young people to grow in confidence and realise their potential.

unintended negative outcome

in their lives.

EMOTIONAL HEALTH

AND WELLBEING

PROGRAMME

Would you like to improve your health and wellbeing?

From Mindfulness and Confidence Building workshops to Circus Skills there

really is something for everyone on this wellbeing programme. Young

people will receive support in regulating their emotions and understanding

the importance of self-care; learn how to develop practical strategies and

to maintain good emotional health and wellbeing. A safe space is available

to young people participating in the programme where they can relax and

unwind or to talk freely with one to one support.

CHANGING FORMS

PROGRAMME

Are you keen to explore the effects of Social Media, Advertising and TV

through a creative arts project?

The changing forms project will explore the effects that Social Media,

Advertising and TV has on emotional health and wellbeing. You will have the

chance to create an artist installation or take part in a dance piece as part

of the 2019 Halloween festival. This programme will develop confidence and

increase self-esteem.

THE GROOVY BAND

This new Music Project will see young people of Strabane and the surrounding

area create a new Street Band, The Groovy Band. Young people of different

communities will come together through the love of music, where both

beginners and intermediate musicians will have the opportunity to perform

at Derry City and Strabane District Council events and a celebratory event,

The Groovy Band Jam.

YOUTH 19 GOLDEN

EVENTS

The Youth 19 programme will include a range of

exciting Golden Events taking place each month

throughout 2019

It kicked off in February with ‘Young Blood -

Future Sounds Music Festival’ and has continued

with a range of events and festivals from

partnering hosts including RISE Wellbeing

Festival, Celtronic, Carnival of Colours, The Youth

Bastion Festival and the Youthful Voices - We

are Poets. The Youth 19 team will host a range of

other events including our flagship event -Rewire

takes place from 26th June-7th July. Youth 19

will also feature programmes at Spring Carnival,

the City of Derry Jazz Festival, Derry Halloween

and the Youth 19 Closing Event in December.
