We’re recruiting for the Unicef Child Friendly Cities and Communities <strong>Youth</strong><br />

Panel. Child Friendly is a community where the voices, needs, priorities and<br />

rights of children and young people are considered and taken seriously.<br />

The first meeting and training session will take place on Wed 17th July 4.30-<br />

7pm and Thurs 18th July 1.30-5.30pm.<br />

drawing, photography,<br />

fashion, video and audio.<br />

NW MINISTRY OF YOUTH<br />

Would you like the opportunity to be involved in decisions that affect you and<br />

have your voice heard?<br />

Setup by local young people the North West Ministry of <strong>Youth</strong> will be the<br />

voice for the young people of the North West to create change here for<br />

the better. The voices of young people truly matter and this programme<br />

will develop leaders to promote diversity, tackle discrimination while<br />

championing issues that are important to you. By becoming a <strong>Youth</strong><br />

Councillor you will deliver on the <strong>Youth</strong> Manifesto, take part in residentials and<br />

study visits and take part in a range of training.<br />

The NW Ministry of <strong>Youth</strong> will be delivered by Cooperation Ireland and the<br />

Education Authority.<br />

Recruitment will take place during August & September 20<strong>19</strong> for an October<br />

20<strong>19</strong> launch!<br />

COUCH TO 5K AND<br />

COLOUR RUN<br />

The second Couch to 5k and Colour Run for <strong>Youth</strong> <strong>19</strong> will give young people<br />

the chance to get active, explore different cultures and take part in an epic<br />

Colour Run.<br />

The 6 week training programme is part of a 6 month programme which will<br />

take you from couch to 5k ahead of the colour run.<br />

This programme is targeted at local youth clubs and delivered in partnership<br />

with Sports Development, Community and Voluntary Sector <strong>Youth</strong> Services<br />

and the Education Authority.<br />

The Discover-Connect and Belong project will involve young people with the<br />

big issues of our time. Designed to stimulate new ideas on culture, religion,<br />

politics, communities and tribes in NI. The project is aimed at reaching<br />

out to young people from all backgrounds with a wide range of activities<br />

that include debates, intercultural dialogue workshops, cultural exchange,<br />

education visits to cultural museums, political institutions and through<br />

cultural celebration events including art, dance and intercultural foods.<br />

Would you like to take control of professional development and personal<br />

growth?<br />

The Government Ambassador’s Programme aims to match young employees<br />

with mentors, within their own organisations, to build their capacity and<br />

confidence by enabling them to take responsibility for their own learning,<br />

development, progression and personal growth.<br />

The programme provides training for Mentors and mentees covering topics<br />

such as Good Relations, Personal Effectiveness, Decision-Making & Problem<br />

Solving, Competency Based Interviews, Presentation Skills and Introduction<br />

to Child Rights (UNICEF). All of the training within the programme is<br />

completely free.<br />

Mentoring is an excellent way to invest in the leaders of tomorrow through<br />

facilitating young people to grow in confidence and realise their potential.<br />

Would you like to improve your health and wellbeing?<br />

From Mindfulness and Confidence Building workshops to Circus Skills there<br />

really is something for everyone on this wellbeing programme. Young<br />

people will receive support in regulating their emotions and understanding<br />

the importance of self-care; learn how to develop practical strategies and<br />

to maintain good emotional health and wellbeing. A safe space is available<br />

to young people participating in the programme where they can relax and<br />

unwind or to talk freely with one to one support.<br />

CHANGING FORMS<br />

PROGRAMME<br />

Are you keen to explore the effects of Social Media, Advertising and TV<br />

through a creative arts project?<br />

The changing forms project will explore the effects that Social Media,<br />

Advertising and TV has on emotional health and wellbeing. You will have the<br />

chance to create an artist installation or take part in a dance piece as part<br />

of the 20<strong>19</strong> Halloween festival. This programme will develop confidence and<br />

increase self-esteem.<br />

THE GROOVY BAND<br />

This new Music Project will see young people of Strabane and the surrounding<br />

area create a new Street Band, The Groovy Band. Young people of different<br />

communities will come together through the love of music, where both<br />

beginners and intermediate musicians will have the opportunity to perform<br />

at Derry City and Strabane District Council events and a celebratory event,<br />

The Groovy Band Jam.<br />

EVENTS<br />

The <strong>Youth</strong> <strong>19</strong> programme will include a range of<br />

exciting Golden Events taking place each month<br />

throughout 20<strong>19</strong><br />

It kicked off in February with ‘Young Blood -<br />

Future Sounds Music Festival’ and has continued<br />

with a range of events and festivals from<br />

partnering hosts including RISE Wellbeing<br />

Festival, Celtronic, Carnival of Colours, The <strong>Youth</strong><br />

Bastion Festival and the <strong>Youth</strong>ful Voices - We<br />

are Poets. The <strong>Youth</strong> <strong>19</strong> team will host a range of<br />

other events including our flagship event -Rewire<br />

takes place from 26th June-7th July. <strong>Youth</strong> <strong>19</strong><br />

will also feature programmes at Spring Carnival,<br />

the City of Derry Jazz Festival, Derry Halloween<br />

and the <strong>Youth</strong> <strong>19</strong> Closing Event in December.<br />
