<strong>Island</strong> <strong>Peak</strong> or Imja Tse (6,189m / 20,305 ft) <strong>is</strong> one of the<br />

most popular of Nepal's 33 designated trekking peaks. The<br />

peak was named <strong>Island</strong> <strong>Peak</strong> in 1953 by members of the<br />

Brit<strong>is</strong>h Mount Everest expedition because it appears as an<br />

<strong>is</strong>land in a sea of ice when viewed from Dingboche. <strong>Climbing</strong><br />

<strong>Island</strong> <strong>Peak</strong> in Nepal offers breathtaking panoramic views of gigantic<br />

mountains -Mt. Lhotse 8501m, Mt. Makalu 8475m, Lhotse<br />

Middle <strong>Peak</strong> 8410 m, Lhotse Shar 8383m, Mt. Nuptse<br />

7879m, Mt. Baruntse 7720m, Ama Dablam 6856m and other<br />

surrounding high peaks.<br />

ISLAND PEAK DIFFICULTY<br />

The climb to <strong>Island</strong> <strong>Peak</strong> <strong>is</strong> graded as Alpine PD+<br />

— Somewhat difficult<br />

A physical fit trekkers with high determination and following<br />

the footprints of Sherpa guide will make you succeed in the<br />

m<strong>is</strong>sion of <strong>is</strong>land peak mountaineering.<br />

challenging but it can be physically demanding<br />

300m in the beginning and near to the summit requires<br />

some technical climbing skills & climbing guide <strong>is</strong> required<br />

to achieve the peak. Not to worry about mountaineering<br />

you some basic Mountaineering skills in base camp and high<br />

Basic Mountaineering Skills Cover<br />

- general rope skills<br />

- rappelling, abseiling<br />

regular walk will certainly help — prior to your arrival in<br />

OTHER BASIC INFORMATION<br />

High Altitude and acclimatization must be taken into<br />

consideration because the level of oxygen dramatically<br />

decreases. You need to keep your body as hydrated as<br />

possible, and cover the d<strong>is</strong>tances as slowly as possible. You<br />

don’t want to over exert yourself physically so moving slowly<br />

each day aids in the acclimatization process.<br />

Best Time for <strong>Island</strong> <strong>Peak</strong> <strong>Climbing</strong><br />

April, May, October, and November are the most<br />

suitable months for a pleasant and secure climb. The weather<br />

<strong>is</strong> also very suitable during those months. You won’t have to<br />

face wet and rainy days. Neither it <strong>is</strong> very cold<br />
