Retirement Plans Approved
An application to build retirement homes on
the former Chadwick’s site in Standish has been
approved.
The 1817 date stone from Chadwick’s will be
preserved and affixed to the wall of an apartment
building, though the building itself will be
demolished. The company has served local people
since opening their first premises in Standish in 1761.
Believe It
The nominees for Wigan Council’s Believe Sports
Awards have been announced ahead of the October
awards ceremony.
Categories include Club of the Year, Volunteer of
the Year, Unsung Hero and The Deal Community
Programme of the Year. Among those nominated for
the latter category are 50p Thursdays at Howe Bridge
Leisure Centre, which allow young people access
to all facilities on Thursdays for a 50p donation;

Rainbow Recruits
Appley Bridge Rainbows are looking for adults to
volunteer to help out at their term time weekly
sessions – these take place from 4:40pm-5:40pm
every Tuesday at All Saints School.
Rainbows sessions are fun and friendly, working with

Haigh Bubble Rush
A family-friendly 5K bubble rush takes place at Haigh
Woodland Park this month – will you walk, run, or
dance your way through colourful bubbles in aid of
two local charities? You’ll burst through four stations
with cannons pumping bubbles into the air, and
receive a medal when you cross the finish line.
Proceeds raised from the event go to Wigan &
Leigh Hospice, supporting local people with lifelimiting
illnesses, and Wigan Warriors Community
Foundation, which helps change people’s lives
through community sport and education.
Entry costs £20 per adult or £10 per under-16, and
the event is suitable for anyone aged 3+. It takes
place at Haigh Hall on Sunday, October 6 at 11am.

New Car Boot Sale
An indoor car boot sale will take place at Standish
High School on Sunday, September 29, with the view
of taking place weekly.
Stalls cost £10, and can be set up between 8am and
8:30am before the car boot opens from 9am-1pm.
