Preparing
for
Christmas
FILLING
THE LARDER
Jars crammed with flavour, to enjoy in weeks to
come, also make delightful and delicious gifts
As the festive season approaches, early
preparation sees the shelves of the larder
filled with tasty accompaniments such as
tangy pickle, spiced jelly and fruit-filled
chutney, along with a seasonal tipple easily concocted
by adding tart cranberries and sharp pine to
sweetened gin. These can all be made and stored
away in anticipation of the Christmas feast, or given
to family and friends as welcome edible gifts.
The addition of a simple tie, label or ribbon
transforms a jar or bottle into a present with a
personal touch, which is guaranteed to be
appreciated for its individuality and effort. If
preserves are offered as gifts, storage instructions
should be included on the label.
“The golden gift that Nature did thee give
To fasten friends and feed them at thy will
With form and favour, taught me to believe
How thou art made to show her greatest skill”
