HDMI 2.0 vs 1.4: What’s the difference?
HDMI 2.0 was announced as a standard in late 2013. It
got a lot of people confused, wondering if they suddenly
needed to throw away their TVs in order to get on this
latest tech trend. As far as tech advancements go, HDMI
2.0 is a pretty friendly one. It’s as much a standard of
software as hardware, and cables designed for HDMI 1.4
systems will work just fine with new HDMI 2.0
devices. What you need to make sure is that both ends of
your entertainment chain – your TV and Blu-ray player,
for example – support the standard. It’ll mean they’re
geared up for the new standards we’ll dig into shortly.
Some previously HDMI 1.4 hardware needs nothing more
than a firmware update.
What’s wrong with my TV reception?
We all love watching television, and there’s nothing more
frustrating than when our reception begins to play up. If you’ve
been having problems with your TV signal, there’s a few possible
culprits. All Australians should generally be able to receive free-toair
television, either terrestrially or via satellite (if terrestrial
coverage is not available), provided they have the correct receiving
equipment. TV broadcasters provide this service, with support from
the Australian Government. The vast majority of all television
reception issues are caused by:cables and fly leads that are old,
damaged or not plugged in properlya TV or set-top box that isn’t
tuned to the correct channelsan antenna that isn’t up to scratch or
isn’t pointing to the correct transmitterareas with deficient coverage
or fringe receptiontrying to receive signals from outside the
intended coverage area of a transmitter.
