Our New Logo & More
We are pleased to
announce we will
be updating all of
our branding with
a fresh new look to
match the renovations
we have done in
recent years. When
designing our new logo, we wanted a modern
representation of the concept of the library
and what it stands for in our community.
Though the logo may appear in different
colors now and then, the primary color is the
shade of blue pictured here, which matches
the color of the walls in our beloved Carnegie
at the Main Library. The symbols in the logo
represent the following:
• Open Book - The traditional understanding
of a library as a home for books and
literacy as well as the openness we strive
for in terms of access and outlook.
• Light Bulb - The knowledge and ideas that
we hope to inspire and facilitate.
• Play Button - Our goal to be a playful
environment in which to learn and grow, as
well as the multimedia nature of our role in
the 21st century.
• Interconnected Globe - The standard icon
for the World Wide Web and the Internet,
to which access is important for everyone
and allows us to connect globally.
• Gear - The act of making. The maker
movement, which is the basis for our
maker labs, encourages tinkering of all
kinds and an adaptive mentality.
We will be releasing a fresh new website in
the coming months. We thank you in advance
for your patience as we transition.
FROM OUR CHILDREN’S LIBRARIAN
Bad Guys, Good Reading
Over the summer The Bad Guys series was
most asssuredly one of the most popular
book series checked out by our 7-12 year-old male
patrons. The graphic novel version of the Wings
of Fire series certainly gave them a run for their
money, but this one was still the #1 item I saw
getting checked out. As the mother of a little boy
who I sometimes have to bribe to read, seeing
kids his age eager to read these books, certainly
piqued my interest. The Bad Guys Episode 9: The
Big Bad Wolf, just hit our shelves in September, so
now seems like a great time to share my thoughts
on these books. They’re fantastic! I love them and
best of all my son loves them and actually wants
to read them! The Bad Guys Episode 1 introduces
the main characters of Mr. Wolf, Mr. Piranha, Mr.
Snake and Mr. Shark. Clearly they are all creatures
that are notorious for being bad, but Mr. Wolf has a
plan to change things! They’re going to be heroes!
They’re going to be good guys! The first book
covers Mr. Wolf working to convince his cohorts
that they want to be good too, and they’ll start by
breaking 200 dogs out of the Maximum Security
City Dog Pound. Each book brings a hilarious new
adventure in their quest to become good.
These books are a fantastic choice for kids just
getting started reading chapter books. There
are tons of illustrations and not too many words
on each page making it less daunting for young
readers. They are also laugh-out-loud funny, which
makes for a great read-aloud even parents can
enjoy. Usually when I start reading these with my
son I only intend to read a chapter or two a night,
but he always wants to keep going. Finding books
that kids actually enjoy is essential for creating
good readers. Hopefully your young reader will
enjoy these as well! All 9 books in the series are
currently available on our shelves, so come check
them out! Happy Reading!
