Our Fold table has a solid wooden oak top. Once in a while, you will need
to lightly sand the top and coat it in oil again. A lacquered or oiled table
top may wear out due to normal use, this is not a reason for a complaint.
It is the responsibility of the customer to ensure proper humidity so that
the wooden table top does not scratch or split.
Treat this table as your friend and you will get a lot of love from it in return.

Daan Gescher & Freek Claessen
The founders.
After meeting during their studies, Freek Claessen and Daan Gescher started puik in 2012 to put
up-and-coming Dutch design talent in the spotlight. Since then, the company has grown from a
lone candle holder to a solid range of accessories and furniture with a twist.
Freek: ‘Puik’ is old Dutch for ‘excellent’ or
‘great’.
Daan: It’s a good name for us – and it’s fun.
We’re not worried how people pronounce it,
because how could you forget ‘Freak’ from
‘Puke’? Dutch design is a bit weird as well as
being excellent, so it works.
Freek: We want the products in our range to
be as timeless and sustainable as possible.
When we make a decision to include a new
design, we intend to keep it in the collection
for a minimum of ten years.
Daan: We ask the designers we collaborate
with to create ‘wow’ items, so iconic that
people remember them. For example, if you
put our Dost chair in the room, everybody
remembers the chair that’s like a hug. And I
really hope that people get a special feeling
about all our products.

vision, but everybody is

Freek: I really like to see puik products in
magazines and movies – our Rare and
Radiant glass and carafe set appeared held
by Jennifer Lawrence in Passengers –
that was amazing. It gives you a small feeling
of success. It’s the same feeling when I visit
someone’s home and see our products being
used.
Daan: For me the most fun part is working
with our great team. All the designers are
like friends. We all have the same vision, but
everybody is specialised in their own area.
Freek: Daan is responsible for transforming
a sketch into a real-life product, while I
look after sales and marketing. We’re all
complementary, and that’s what makes puik
literally great.
Daan: At puik there’s always enthusiasm, and
a good spirit.
Freek: Even though sometimes we disagree
all day long, it helps us to keep sharp and
reach our goals. Above all, we have fun.

sketch.
Instead of creating a narrative, studio Kranen/Gille
decided to let pure form lead the way. While combining
and recombining shapes, and without a clear function
in mind, they finally reached the core of the design.
Numerous sketches were made, drawn with a single
line, until the ideal one appeared. This resulted in
the Cone light, with as its focal point a glass cylinder
emerging from that one perfect line.

Tineke Beunders
The art director.
Tineke Beunders, puik’s art director, joined the team in 2017. Since then she has worked to craft
puik’s range into a comprehensive collection of accessories and furniture to fall in love with.
“As an art director it’s my role to get everyone
working in the same creative direction. I
manage everything on the visual side; the
graphics, materials, colours and, of course, my
true love: photography. Essentially I focus on
how the brand looks and feels – a job I feel
very lucky to have.
We sell basic accessories and furniture, but
with a twist. I’d like our customers to feel at
home among puik products, but to know
they’re special at the same time. That also
has to do our style of photography, which I
want to be neutral but friendly. And to catch
that feeling of joy – when it’s a grey day and
suddenly the sun comes out – you know that
special moment? So we use a lot of white
and grey tones, and then we have natural
daylight coming in, creating shadows and
reflections. We work with a very talented
photographer, Jeroen Van Der Wielen, who
helps to bring my vision to life.
“We sell basic accessories and
furniture, but with a twist. I’d
like our customers to feel at
home among puik products.”
I think it’s really important to make good and
long-lasting products with a story. You fall
in love with it when you first buy it, and then
each time you see it you think: ‘yes’. Because
you love it you take good care of it. If it’s a
sofa, you eventually replace the fabric, and
finally you pass it on to your kids. That’s the
essence of good design. That’s why I always
liked visiting my grandparents’ house. It
