Brynn Clingwall, a Roberts Creek local and founder of Kindred
Spirit Steel Drums, believes one’s calling is the space
between our innate gifts and the gifts we want to share
with society. He is a talented artisan, and the gift he has
spent the last five years cultivating is what he refers to as
“vitality through sound”—healing and connecting through
the music of steel hand drums.
Brynn believes music should be available to all. Today, there is hesitation
to join in for fear of not being perfect. These drums relieve that tension by
providing an accessible way to explore music. “Melodic steel instruments
have the ability to create a connection between a player and their own inner
world, regardless of age or musical experience,” Brynn shares. “They can be
used to attain a deep meditative state, for sound-healing purposes and for
the carefree experimentation with music.”
These steel drums are easily played with hands or mallets. The instrument
itself creates a safe place to enjoy music. Each note struck resonates as
beautiful. Each instrument has a defined scale that works to create sound
that delights and connects. You don’t need any prior musical background. You
just need a desire to connect with sound.
