Thomas Keogh
(Holy Cross Priory, Leicester)
Thursday 17 October 2019
1.15-1.55 pm

THOMAS KEOGH studied the organ with Michael Overbury at
Worksop Priory, before further study at Birmingham Conservatoire
with James Parsons and Marcus Huxley. During this time he was
Director of Music at St Augustine’s Church, Edgbaston. In 2013,
Thomas directed the choir in the singing of the “St Augustine’s
Service” by Herbert Howells, composed for the parish in the 1967 –
only the second time since its composition that the church choir has
sung it.
In 2015, Thomas left St Augustine’s to take up a similar position at
Holy Cross Priory in Leicester – a large city centre church in the care
of the Dominican Order – where he directs the choir and
accompanies the Mass and Offices.
In 2018, Thomas co-founded, together with soprano Katharine
Choonara, Village Voices. Village Voices is group of community choirs
based in and around Loughborough for anyone who enjoys singing.
They have quickly established a wide repertoire from Byrd and
Palestrina to Faure and Rutter, and early folk songs to The Beatles!
These groups sing regularly on their own and together all over
Leicestershire to raise money for local charities. They are much in
demand in the local area and are looking forward to their first
weekend away together in the summer of 2020.
