PROJECT
SHOWCASE
Alamo Drafthouse is the main attraction for the revitalized downtown
district in Westminster, Colorado. Chandler Signs was invited to be a
part of the team during the infancy stages of this project. The
collaborative efforts between Chandler Signs and Alamo Drafthouse
design teams ended with the huge success. The 100’ long custom
marquee sign, 25’ tall blade sign, and Pandora’s Box sign with animated
neon adds to the nostalgic feel and also brings energy to the
development at night. The interior signage package is also highly
custom with hand painted finishes. Alamo Drafthouse is using
Westminster as its new prototype and is currently working with
Chandler on implementing this design into upcoming locations.
An Inside Look At Our Chandler Team Member
- Joel Gonzales
Written and Interviewed by Toni Rodriguez
(Photo of Joel, middle left with his team in a competition earlier this month)
Joel Gonzales (Art Designer- San Antonio Office) practices an active lifestyle as a CrossFit coach at CrossFit Huebner located in San
Antonio, Texas. He truly has a passion for the sport and shares many insights/advice for anyone interested in learning about CrossFit!
What inspired you to try CrossFit?
I had been working at a desk job for many years, gaining weight, eating terribly and wanted to get active and back into shape again. I started
eating better, but only working out sporadically, and then I joined a sand volleyball league. I became good friends with this guy who tried for 6
months to convince me to try CrossFit…after 6 months, I agreed to go and was hooked after the first class.
How long have you been training in CrossFit?
I walked into my first CrossFit class on March 14, 2011 and have never stopped.
How long have you been coaching?
I started coaching early in 2012 and I loved it so much I decided to get my CrossFit Level 1 Certificate on September 8, 2012.
What is the name of the gym where you train?
I left my first gym (or ‘box’ in CrossFit lingo) in October 2013 and visited CrossFit Huebner and have been with them ever since. I love the
programming, emphasis on strength and nutrition, and the community. Check us out – www.crossfithuebner.com
What do you find is the most rewarding about CrossFit?
CrossFit is so rewarding and never boring! Whether you want to lose or gain weight, get stronger and faster, keep up with your kids or
grandkids or just look good on the beach, CrossFit is an amazing tool. Personally, I love getting stronger and the constant challenges that
CrossFit introduces like pull-ups, handstand walking, muscle-ups, double unders (a form of jumping rope), and the Olympic lifts (Clean, Jerk
and Snatch). I’ve been doing this for over 7 years and I am still learning. The goal is to be functionally capable for as long as humanly possible.
What would you say to people who have an interest in joining CrossFit but may be reluctant to try?
Yes! I’ve heard plenty of reasons why people are reluctant:
1.) I have to get in shape to start CrossFit – CrossFit will help you get in shape and get moving again. Do what you can in class and watch the
magic happen! The support and motivation will keep you coming back.
2.) I’m afraid of getting too muscular or bulky – Your average CrossFit body will just get thinner and fitter.
3.) I’ll get hurt – With the right mentality, coaching and gym, CrossFit is very safe. Most will start learning the mechanics of the movement
before adding any weight. Once you have the mechanics down, consistency becomes key before we add that intensity.
Truly the only thing that I'd tell them is find a class and just go see for yourself. Most of the time the people who are willing to take those steps
end up loving it.

"Winds of Change"
Tug of War Winners!
Mark J. Vergenz - Senior V.P. of Operations
For me, change has always been an opportunity for growth...albeit a little unnerving at times.
Chandler Signs is embarking on some significant philosophical changes to the way we do business,
and to the way we serve our clients.
Many of those changes will be illustrated within the forthcoming Jobscope ERP, but some changes
have already been seen in the new Policy meeting we had last month unveiling several practical
improvements to our employees’ experience.
Additionally, we’ve decided to adopt and follow Lean MFG Principles in our shop. It’s early,
but we’ve begun the journey to eliminate wasteful steps, organize the plant, streamline our
purchasing, and develop far more efficient practices overall. BTW, there will be a second Lean
initiative to apply those same principles to the front end of our business, as well.
While there are several goals, our first responsibility is to make Chandler Signs a stable, profitable
organization for many years to come. By extension, we want to provide an engaging experience for
our employees and encourage them to feel empowered to make a difference.
In closing, change can be really good...and the “ground” at Chandler Signs is more fertile than ever in
welcoming new thoughts and ideas... Truly, the Winds of Change have hit Chandler Signs.
Best,
"Newcomer" Spotlight
Michelle Jappert / Project Manager / DFW Office
Interviewed by Rebecca Marsh
Where are you from?
Hard to answer, we moved to the US when I was 5. I was born in Portau-Prince,
Haiti. I’ve lived in Key West, Pittsburgh, New Jersey,
Wyoming, Texas and Switzerland.
What led you to Chandler?
A friend recommended Chandler and said you were a great company to
work for.
What are your hobbies in your spare time?
I chase my very active 5 year old around, ensuring he stays safe. I used to love reading, but haven’t had an
opportunity to read anything other than children’s books for the past few years. I love to travel, and my son is a
great little road trip partner.
What do you find most fascinating about signs?
I’m honestly surprised by everything that goes into manufacturing and installing a sign.
California Team
Interviewed by Rebecca Marsh
John Pulliam- Project Manager / Therese Pennington- PM Assistant
Stephanie Lorraine- PM Assistant / Elvis Leon - Artist
Brenda Jimenez - PM Assistant
Where are you from?
Elvis: Born in Peru, lived in Modesto CA until June 2019.
Therese: Anaheim, CA
Stephanie: Georgia
What do you find most fascinating about signs?
Elvis: I love the process of converting an idea into a
recognizable object. The thing that was in someone’s head now
has physical measurements that draws people’s attention.
Stephanie: How I never really noticed them before,
now they are everywhere! Also, there’s some beautiful signage out there.
Brenda: It is the first impression you make on your (brand identity) and how much work it goes into I never realized.
I have a greater appreciation for signage now.
What led you to Chandler?
John: I am a servant leader by training and I was impressed by Chandler’s focus on Project Management at the core of its business practice and
philosophy. Mission and team are everything to me and in interviewing the company (it works both ways!). Chandler demonstrated itself to be a
culture of mission-minded, team-oriented employees. I am grateful to be a part of the Chandler team.
What are your hobbies in your spare time?
John: I enjoy time at the gym, mentoring others, and venturing into the unknown wilderness. (i.e, backpacking and hiking; Zermat, Switzerland,
Utqiagvik, Alaska, Indian Peaks Wilderness, Colorado, and the Sierra Nevada and White Mountains here in California are among my favorites!)
Therese: Spending time with grandkids, design, art, working out, running, cycling and gardening.
Brenda: Hiking, SUP, Yoga and being creative.

Community Outreach
We want to extend a HUGE thank you to all
employees who participated in the School
Supply Drives for local schools! We had a
great turnout for students at Joli Ann
Leichtag Elementary in California, SafeHaven
of Tarrant County in DFW, and St. PJ’s
Children’s Home in San Antonio!
Great job done by all !
UPCOMING COMMUNITY OUTREACH
The San Antonio Office will be participating in the 40th annual Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner! This dinner provides senior
citizens and the less fortunate a place to enjoy a warm, delicious Thanksgiving meal while enjoying time with their peers and live
music/entertainment. Registration opens up Friday, 11/01 so be on the lookout for updates to come!
The California Office will be gathering nonperishable food for the North County Food Bank in San Marcos, CA! North County Food
Bank partners with the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank as the largest hunger-relief organization in San Diego County. Last
year they distributed 28 million pounds of food and served an average of 350,000 people per month in San Diego County. Be on the
lookout for collection dates!
The DFW Office will be working with Children’s Health in Dallas, TX. Children’s Health is the eighth-largest pediatric health care
provider in the country and we even work with them on their signage! We will be donating items for the teenage age group and a
nurses unit within their Dallas Medical Center. Be on the lookout for an angel tree that will be popping up within the office!
