Senior Sergeant Roy Appley said “police have been making initial inquiries” into the breakin. Ms Roberts said she isn’t worried for her safety after the latest break-in but her partner is on edge. “My partner Roy Appley did say this morning that CRIME: Spreydon residents are concerned with the number of vehicle break-ins and burglaries in the area recently, but police say there has been no spike in these crimes. he didn’t sleep for a period of about two hours because he thought that he kept hearing noises outside, so it has affected him.” Ms Roberts said last month her neighbour’s work van had been broken into and all the tools from it were stolen. In January, Ms Roberts said her truck had also been entered while it was up her driveway but nothing valuable was taken. Last Tuesday’s break-in led Ms Roberts to post about her experience to the Spreydon Neighbourhood Network Facebook group. One person commented to say their husband’s car had been broken into at 9pm last Tuesday. Others have also raised concerns about vehicle break-ins and burglaries on the Spreydon Neighbourhood Network Facebook group recently. A woman posted two days earlier than her saying she had heard someone try to break-in to her home four or five times over a week while she was at home. People replied saying they had also experienced crime in the area. “We had car windows smashed too, same car, two weeks apart. Been broken in as well, twice,” said one commenter. “There have been cars being spray painted and houses broken into the street over,” said another. Said Senior Sergeant Appley: “Police are not aware of any significant spike in reported incidents in the Spreydon area. “Police would encourage anyone who is a victim of crime to please report the matter to police as soon as possible. “Additionally, learning of any emerging patterns in crime reports allows police to deploy our resources appropriately in response.” Selwyn St speeding •From page 1 Said Cr Scandrett: “The issue is when you’ve got a wide road, or what’s perceived as a wide road, people just inadvertently lift their speed and so we’re getting that. “Right from the Selwyn St shops right through, it’s been an issue and it’s certainly an issue that seems to be spreading in our communities,” he said. But Sergeant Greg Hume said the Canterbury road policing team MORE THAN 20 mosaic artists from around the South Island have come together to present their work at the Eastside Gallery in Linwood. Artists from the Christchurch Mosaic Art Group are displaying their work between now and November 9 as part of an exhibition called Media Freedom. Mosaics on show in Linwood Media Freedom has mosaics made from a wide range of materials, including opulent stained glass, fine china, rich natural stone and even beads. Various creations, including pictures, mirrors and decorative crafts, are included in the exhibition. Many of these pieces are for sale. The exhibition will be on Monday to Saturday, 11am to 4pm.
