repair iconic clock<br />
Thanks to Ilam Watchmakers a clock,<br />
which prior to the earthquakes had provided<br />
the time for Christchurch residents<br />
from the former railway station, will again<br />
fulfil its role.<br />
When the owners of the<br />
newly opened Riverside<br />
Market wanted to<br />
install the iconic<br />
clock at the<br />
market, they<br />
approached<br />
Geoff and<br />
Michelle<br />
Butler of<br />
Ilam Watchmakers<br />
for<br />
help.<br />
One of the<br />
original dials<br />
that were<br />
retained is already<br />
installed inside the<br />
market. It has been fitted<br />
with a new up-to-date GPS<br />
movement sourced from overseas. In the<br />
coming weeks, another dial will be positioned<br />
on the exterior, Geoff says.<br />
The team of seven watchmakers and four<br />
watch technicians, along with the four admin<br />
staff, are no strangers to this type of<br />
repair – having already repaired not only<br />
the Christchurch Arts Centre clock but<br />
the Blenheim clock tower as well. They<br />
are currently in the process of repairing<br />
the Timaru Council town clock too.<br />

for Omega.<br />
