Youth Work Intermediate<br />

Apprenticeship (Level 2)<br />

Course length: 1 year | Code: 5902<br />

Youth Work Advanced<br />

Apprenticeship (Level 3)<br />

Course length: 18 months | Code: 5903<br />

Entry requirements<br />

• You should be at least 16 years old.<br />

• A job as an apprentice in a Youth Work setting<br />

for a minimum of 30 hours per week. If you<br />

work fewer hours, the length of <strong>time</strong> on your<br />

apprenticeship will be longer.<br />

• You must pass an initial assessment in English<br />

& maths.<br />

• You will have an interview.<br />

• A clear Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check<br />

at the start of the course.<br />

About the course<br />

This qualification is based on the National<br />

Occupational Standards for youth work and<br />

supports the skills & knowledge needed to become a<br />

competent Assistant Youth Support Worker. You will<br />

gain an understanding of the key purpose & role of<br />

youth work including the skills, knowledge, qualities<br />

& values required to practice; safeguarding in a youth<br />

work setting, including keeping safe online; young<br />

people’s development & how youth work can support<br />

adolescents; and working with challenging behaviour.<br />

Optional units include: Employment Rights &<br />

Responsibilities, Anti-discriminatory Practice<br />

and Supporting Young People with Disabilities &<br />

Additional Learning Needs.<br />

Your future<br />

After your apprenticeship, you can progress on<br />

to the Youth Work Practice Level 3 Diploma or<br />

Apprenticeship. You can also use the skills you have<br />

developed and the experience you have gained at<br />

work to progress further in your job role/career.<br />

qualification.<br />

at the start of the course.<br />

About the course<br />

This qualification is based on the National<br />

Occupational Standards for youth work & supports<br />

the skills and knowledge needed to become a<br />

competent Youth Support Worker. You will gain an<br />

understanding of the values, core principles and<br />

current policies relating to youth work; intervention<br />

strategies in youth work settings; and the<br />

principles, knowledge and skills needed for workbased<br />

practice. Optional units include: Caseload<br />

Management, Implementing Exchange Programmes,<br />

Outreach and Detached Youth Work.<br />

Your future<br />

Whilst there is currently no Level 4 qualification<br />

in Youth Work Practice, the Advanced Level<br />

Apprenticeship does offer progression to a range of<br />

higher level qualifications. These include the Level<br />

4 Award/Certificate in Working with Vulnerable<br />

Young People; Level 4 qualifications in Advice &<br />

Guidance; and Foundation Degrees in Working with<br />

Young People. You could also use the skills you have<br />

developed and the experience you have gained at<br />

work to progress further in your job role/career,<br />

potentially in to management.<br />
