Horticulture<br />

Horticulture & Landscape Operative Level 2 Apprenticeship<br />

Course length: 2 years | Code: 7120<br />

Entry requirements<br />

• An apprenticeship vacancy in your chosen area.<br />

• You must pass an initial assessment in English & maths<br />

or<br />

Have recently gained GCSE grades 4 (C) or above in English & maths.<br />

• You will have an interview.<br />

About the course<br />

This apprenticeship prepares you for various roles in<br />

horticulture, including maintaining landscapes, parks<br />

and public gardens. Depending on your employer,<br />

your apprenticeship may specialise in one of the<br />

following areas:<br />

HORTICULTURE: You will learn to plan, develop<br />

and maintain landscaping areas including gardens,<br />

parks and other green spaces. You will be learning<br />

to cultivate soils, controlling plant pests, identifying<br />

plants and learning the principles of their growth<br />

& development. You will also be taught how to use<br />

machinery and ways to reduce waste.<br />

LANDSCAPING: You will learn about the construction<br />

of hard landscaping areas such as fencing, walls,<br />

paving and paths. You will also learn to survey and<br />

mark out sites, as well as maintaining areas including<br />

fences, walls and water features.<br />

At the end of the apprenticeship, you will need<br />

to pass an End Point Assessment which involves<br />

the completion of a portfolio of evidence, a series<br />

of practical assessment tests and a professional<br />

discussion.<br />

Your future<br />

After completing a Level 2 Apprenticeship, you may<br />

be able to progress on to a Level 3 Apprenticeship or<br />

full-<strong>time</strong> study at college. Alternatively, you can use<br />

the skills and experience you have gained to progress<br />

further in your career.<br />
