DISNEY STORE COMES TO LIFE THANKS TO
PROPABILITY AND FLOURISH TRADING
In partnership with the teams at Disney Store, Propability and sister
company Flourish Trading have delivered an immersive Savannah-themed
area for the Oxford Street, Disney Store basement that brings the
new The Lion King film to life in store. An incredibly rich shopping
experience includes a soundscape, as well as an interactive photo
opportunity. Life-like foliage indigenous to the Savannah frames the area –
tempting shoppers through an archway and encouraging the merchandise
off the shelves.
In the centre a sculpted fibre-glass mound was scenically painted to look
like rock and earth, and features a carved lion paw print and “Remember
who you are” message – a pivotal message of the film. The customer can
place their hand into the paw print as an opportunity to interact with the
scheme, and post pictures on social media forums.
Customers are immediately drawn in by a Savannah foliage-rich archway
entrance into The Lion King area. Flourish Trading, sourced all foliage for
the area which forms a large aspect of the immersive look and feel, with
fire-rated life like grasses, ferns and plants. The arch itself used
approximately 15 square metres of foliage with metal-grid tiles, all needing
to be cut to fit - taking over 50 hours to apply and dress. The foliage
includes river ferns, forest ferns, grasses of various colours, as well
as banana and salloum leaves and vines.
The concept for the foliage was to begin at the front of the area with lush
hues of green, and then as the customers move through the scheme, the
foliage and floor vinyl become more parched and arid – which accurately
follows the story line and landscape of the film. The green grasses at the
front gradually fade into yellows and browns. In total, the area includes over
100 different artificial grasses, each attached to MDF scenically painted cut
outs to make them secure and easy to fit around the in-store columns. The
grasses alone took over 40 hours of careful design and installation. There
are also two, three-metre tall flat-topped trees which were adapted for the
store environment. Adding to the immersive atmosphere, a soundscape
plays jungle sound effects on a loop.
All around the merchandise shelves, fixtures and fittings are filled
with The Lion King soft toys, merchandise and gifts with grasses growing
underneath fittings and leaves above fixtures also contributing to the
immersive shopping experience, look and feel. A delightful shopping
experience for Disney The Lion King fans!
Heathrow has unveiled an art installation aimed at raising awareness of
neuro-developmental disorders including Attention Deficit Hyperactivity
Disorder (ADHD), Autism, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia and Dyspraxia.
ORMISTON WIRE BRINGS
‘UMBRELLA PROJECT’ TO HEATHROW
The ‘Umbrella Project’ at the airport’s T5 Arrivals features 300 brightly
coloured hanging umbrellas, and celebrates “the gifts, talents and
employability of those with neuro-developmental disorders”.
Ormiston Wire undertook the project using 3.5 km of cable, with over 3000
fittings in order to suspend 1 tonne of steel in the air. The whole project
was completed in 2 weeks.
According to Heathrow “the project name stems from the use of ADHD and
Autism as ‘umbrella terms’ for many neurological conditions and reframes
them for children as unique ‘Super Powers’”.
CJ RETAIL SOLUTIONS GO THE
FINAL MILE WITH BT
BT Final Mile provide a locker delivery service to field engineers across the
country, working across many sectors such as IT, Smart-Metering,
reprographics, fire and security. BT required a solution for the installation
of their lockers and the Project Management of the entire installation
process and so turned to CJ Retail Solutions.
In the first six months of the contract, CJ Retail Solutions installed 2,200
lockers into BT Hubs all across the country, with priority sites noted by the
client taken into consideration when scheduling installation works.
Prior to the installation of the lockers, the company project managed all
aspects of manufacture, warehousing, scheduling, distribution and the
Quality Check process. On site, any damaged or old lockers are uplifted if
necessary.
The CJ Retail Solutions installation teams took before and after pictures of
each hub and each locker on site, and this was uploaded to their client
portal for the client to view in real-time.
The Head of Solutions and Onboard Delivery at BT commented: “We were
looking for a new partner that could help us install our UK wide final mile
delivery locker network at pace without sacrificing quality and at the right
cost. CJ Retail Solutions have met that brief in full and have continued to
collaborate with us in our expansion plans. We really do see them as
critical to the ongoing success of BT Final Mile.”
WRIGHTS COST SAVING SOLUTION
PROVES JUST THE TICKET FOR EAT.
New food POS ticket holders have helped
leading High Street food brand EAT. meet
the need for improved allergen
information – and cut costs too!
Retail display specialist Wrights Plastics
developed an engineered POS ticket
holder after being approached by EAT.’s
marketing team who felt their existing
ticket holders were too small, too easily
dislodged & broken – and too costly!
The new POS ticket holders are larger to
allow for essential allergen and brand
info to be seen clearly & quickly, helping
reduce dwell time in EAT.’s busy
branches. The clever design keeps the holders in place and front-facing –
even when knocked by product and customers.
And the new holders were not only around 50% cheaper than before but
they were less liable to break – and that means even greater cost saving
in the long run.
MEMBER NEWS
Wrights Plastics’ Business Development Manager Nick King said:
“Just creating a larger version of their current ticket holders was not an
option as their attrition rate was high, they were too easily dislodged and
too expensive. Working with the EAT. marketing department, our design
team went back to the drawing board and developed a brilliantly
engineered solution that remains in place and face-on. One basic design
provided a POS ticket solution that worked across the store – from chillers
to hot cabinets. Switching to a new material (which lowered the likelihood
of breakage) and manufacturing using some of the latest laser profiling
machinery helped lower the unit cost by around 50%”
“We were delighted to deliver another effective POS solution for another
leading UK brand.” Nick concluded.
SCHUH INTRODUCE TWENTYTWENTY
STORE CONCEPT WITH UNIBOX
Designed by Briggs Hillier and realised by teams from Unibox and schuh’s
established supply chain, ‘schuh TwentyTwenty’ is a striking revision of
schuh’s store format.
The aim? To deliver a laser focus on youth, aged 14-24 years, through key
brand storytelling and product activations.
profile fabrication, luminaire assembly and electrical testing to flow
smoothly and effectively through their recently extended Manchester
production facility. For just 1 of schuh's 132 stores, Unibox supplied over
120m of illuminated profile for the archways, along with nearly 1000m of
RSB extrusion with bespoke brackets, all delivered on time and to budget.
Offering unparalleled experience in designing, extruding and fabricating
aluminium profiles to deliver retail lighting and merchandising solutions,
Unibox were the perfect partner to help Briggs Hillier Design deliver schuh’s
vision.
schuh TwentyTwenty is revolutionary from floor to ceiling. It is an integration
of leading lighting technology, beautifully engineered aluminium extrusions
and intelligently thought out designs, all of which come together to create
an entirely new kind of shopping experience. The installation’s standout
feature is its illuminated archways. Spanning the full width of the store, the
upright element serves as the main merchandising system and provides
much of the interior lighting. To ensure that the proposed installation would
look fantastic, perform well and be easy to install, Unibox worked in
collaboration with Briggs Hillier Design and schuh. The team’s expert
knowledge of the inherent properties of the materials Unibox were working
with enabled them to develop a system that was fit for purpose as soon as
it hit the store.
The entire system was pre-built prior to dispatch to make sure it lived up to
Briggs Hillier Design’s expectations and performed exactly as schuh hoped
it would. After a successful install at schuh Livingston, Unibox has since
delivered the same system for Bristol store and is currently in manufacture
for the scheduled refit at Manchester.
The 'TwentyTwenty' project readies schuh for the decade ahead with a
‘Future Fit’ design and a platform from which to grow in the youth target
market.
The Head of Store Development at schuh commented: "Thank you for all
your efforts in getting this project over the line. It has been a pleasure
working with like-minded people, and learning from each of you as we go.
It’s great to have such a high level of confidence in our supply partners and
the result speaks for itself. We look forward to a continued and successful
business relationship with you."
Once finalised, Unibox set about bringing the designs to life. The Livingston
store, due to its proximity to schuh’s Head Office, was scheduled to be the
first trial site, and delivery was required in a timescale that was tight even
in retail terms. Unibox’s unique mix of manufacturing skillsets enabled
DPI LIGHTBOXES MAKE SKULLCANDY
STAND OUT FROM THE CROWD
How do you make a product stand out against hundreds of similar
products all vying for attention at the world’s leading trade show for
consumer and home electronics?
That was the challenge faced by creative studio Checkland Kindleysides.
They approached DPI UK requiring a high-quality lightbox display solution
for their client, Skullcandy who were exhibiting at IFA in Berlin.
Richard Dunkin, Production Director at Checkland Kindleysides said:
“Building a lightbox display is deceptively simple, however, DPI understood
our focus, were incredibly exacting and provided top notch support
throughout the build. This helped us to ensure the IFA stand successfully
reflected Skullcandy’s cultural origins combined with an immersive audio
experience.”
Operating in a highly competitive marketplace, and with a brief to bring
‘Music You Can Feel’ to life, the stand had to reflect the immersive audio
experience of using Skullcandy’s new Crusher ANC Headphones whilst
conveying their coveted level of product quality and reliability.
Combining high quality LED technology with beautiful printed fabrics, the
brand was enhanced with large wallmounted lightboxes. The internal
technology enjoys a Lifetime Warranty – a feature only offered by DPI.
Skullcandy is an American company based in Park City, Utah. They supply
audio accessories such as headphones, earphones, hands free devices,
audio backpacks, MP3 players, and other consumer products.
DPI helped Checkland Kindleysides to successfully achieve their mission
to push beyond the boundaries of electronics product show standard
norms at the stand.
STYLO GET CREATIVE IN VODAFONE’S
REGENERATED LONDON OFFICES
Stylo were briefed by Vodafone to re-design 22 walls of their London offices.
The brief consisted of leaving the corporate side of the brand behind and
going for full colour and bold statements. The client’s inspiration was all
based around urban street art and bold pop art style designs, how
refreshing.
Although Stylo could have taken this brief and gone quite wild, they needed
to find a way to incorporate Vodafone itself into each individual design.
This process started with their creative director looking into the Vodafone
ethos and company values, taking key features of how the company
became the UK’s most valuable brand of 2019.
MEMBER NEWS
After completing the location factor, it was time to delve deeper into what
core messages Vodafone try to get across to not only their consumers, but
their staff too. ‘Think big’ and ‘Grow’ were included in the designs and Stylo
also did a piece on ‘Pride’ to celebrate the inclusivity that the brand
supports.
However, the creativity didn’t stop here. Stylo have a team of very talented
installers and for this job they knew just the person to get involved. One of
their installers is a keen graffiti artist and Vodafone decided to utilise
Luke’s talents and allow him to get creative on top of the vinyl’s that were
already installed. Whether it was enhancing the core message of the piece
or coming up with ideas on the spot, his creativity was celebrated, and this
is what this industry should be about - a celebration of individuality and
innovation.
Each piece of art had to have relevance, e.g. the office location, London.
Being in one of the most famous and influential cities in the world and
being a British born company, they decided this should be celebrated by
incorporating iconic parts of the city into each design. One piece was of the
iconic London tube and another had a Tower of London style Guard
incorporated.
A striking ultra-illuminated display
spanning more than 40m has been
installed at Sports Direct’s headquarters
in Nottinghamshire.
Designed by shopfitting specialist Replan
and produced by the retail graphic display
experts from Leach, the industry-first
installation has transformed an ordinary
stairwell into a stunning nature exhibit.
The idyllic scene – complete with perfect
sky and cascading waterfall – has been
made possible thanks to a 4m x 11m
curved lightbox suspended overhead, with
thirty 1m² lightboxes staggered to the floor
to showcase the vast water feature.
LEACH INSTALL INDUSTRY-FIRST
DISPLAY SPECTACLE AT
SPORTS DIRECT HQ
With the powerful yet energy-efficient lighting reflecting beautifully off the
glazed balustrade of the stairway, visitors to Sports Direct’s HQ and pro
shop may forget they are simply in a retail space. But beyond this waterfall
landmark is a new-concept, premium-feel flagship environment with
dedicated equestrian, rock climbing and golf areas, to name just a few.”
As with all of Leach’s lightboxes – irrespective of size – the display is
designed so that the fabric graphics can be interchanged to create an
entirely new look and feel, to suit the client’s evolving brand activity. The
magnetised LEDs can even be repositioned to produce a completely
different visual effect, such as shooting stars or exploding fireworks.
Leach’s new Lightwave product is proving popular across varied sectors
including retail, sports, events and exhibitions, plus museums and
heritage.
Conceptualised by Replan and manufactured utilising Leach’s new cuttingedge
Lightwave technology, the result is a graphic display which looks
uncannily like a giant video wall. But instead, dynamic LED has been
integrated into the lightboxes to create an eye-catching sense of
movement – in this case, flowing water – for only 20% of the cost of the
video wall alternative.
“With more than 470 stores across Europe, Sports Direct is one of the
most well-known names on the high street. They stock a number of iconic
brands within their spaces, but this installation proves that they too are an
organisation that loves to stand out,” explained Aaron Eaton, Managing
Director from Replan.
“We were therefore bold at the conceptualisation phase as we wanted to
create an industry talking point, and I think we’ve done just that.”
We’re sure you’ve noticed, but Brexit is back in the news in a big way. With
Boris Johnson proving to be ever the controversial figure and growing
parliamentary pressure to outlaw the eventuality of leaving with no deal,
uncertainty has never been higher.
Have you thought about how Brexit will affect your business? Whether you
rely on a large number of EU nationals to keep your business running, or
you’re worried about contingency planning for the future of your business,
Citation’s Head of Employment Law, Gillian McAteer, takes a look at the
four things every business owner needs to know ahead of Brexit.
1. Can we ignore European rules after Brexit?
It could be easy to assume that, once the UK leaves the EU, all the laws
we’ve been subject to will immediately become null and void. But that’s
certainly not the case.
Under the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018, all EU law in existence
immediately before Brexit is converted straight into UK law as soon as
Brexit occurs. These laws have to be interpreted in line with the principles
laid down in the European Court as they apply immediately before Brexit
day. That means most courts in the UK will be bound by these principles
with the exception of the Supreme Court.
UK courts don’t have to follow any decisions made by the European Court
after Brexit, but they may still be taken into account if the UK court
considers them to be relevant to a particular case in hand.
2. Will freedom of movement end for EU nationals coming into Britain after
31 October?
No, the rules regarding freedom of movement are one of the areas of
European Law which will be immediately imported to UK law on Brexit. The
Government has pledged to bring freedom of movement to an end as
quickly as possible, but we do not yet have any details of how or when this
will be done.
3. I have EU nationals working in my business, what do I need to do?
The best thing you can do to support your EU workers is communicate with
them to make sure they are aware of what they need to do to apply for
Settled status (if they have 5 years’ residence in the UK) or Pre-Settled
status (if they have less than 5 years’ residence) and, if possible, offer any
support they may need.
The focus of visual marketing is presenting your
products in a way which entices customers into
your store and encourages purchases. In
fashion retail, a mannequin’s role is vital in this
process; telling your sales story, helping your
customers to visualise how they could look in
your clothing, and even just seeing the latest
trends at a glance.
Although the deadline for making this application is 31 December 2020 (if
we leave a without a deal) only a third of those eligible have made
applications to date. The process is relatively quick and easy and there is
no fee payable.
4. My business relies on recruiting workers from the EU, will this be more
difficult after Brexit?
If the UK reaches a deal regarding their withdrawal from the EU, then it’s
likely that freedom of movement between the UK and the EU would
continue throughout the implementation period (originally due to be up to
31 December 2020).In the event of a no-deal Brexit, freedom of
movement will be brought to an end much sooner. If your business relies
on recruiting workers from within the EU, this may make recruitment more
difficult.
All attention is on the Government’s proposals for the new skills-based
immigration system which is due to come into force in January 2021 – in
particular the proposal to have a minimum salary threshold of £30,000
and a short-term transitional temporary 12-month visa scheme for so
called lower-skilled workers. The Government is currently undergoing a 12-
month consultation period on these proposals.
