1998 Chevy Tahoe “Lowrider”
We decided to do this photo shoot down in the West Bottoms of Kansas City
at the haunted house “The Beast”. This is a haunted house that has captivated
the Kansas City area for many years. It’s four floors to which they are
constantly adding scary, intimidating nightmares and thrills. While the Beast
is trying to claw his way into them before his victim escapes by jumping out
of a 2-story window or slide 4-stories down. After that exciting location we
decided to move to the Workhouse in Kansas City on Vine Street. We were wanting
to give this shoot a scary feeling and we believe we achieved that!
Tony and his girlfriend, April had been discussing for a little while things
for Tony to do in his spare time to keep him busy. One day April came across
this unusual Chevy Tahoe on facebook for sale. April knew that Tony was a huge
clown collector and knew of his love for clowns. April suggested to Tony that
they go check this Tahoe out and see if he wanted to buy it. They ended up
driving to Kansas to check out the Tahoe and Tony knew he had to have it!
He bought the Tahoe in 2017. Tony found out very fast how much attention the
Tahoe was getting. That’s when he decided that he was going to redo it and bring
it back to life. The paint needed attention, he had the top of the Tahoe done
in a different color along with other body issues fixed and taken care of.
When Tony purchased this very exciting looking Tahoe, he really was into all
of the extras that it had. It already had the door handles shaved off, it was
already on air-bags, it had the air-brushing on the back along with the details
of the skulls and the flames throughout the truck. He has been putting his own
love into it since he bought the Tahoe. Not only has he redone the paint job, he
has done work to the engine, rear-end and replaced all of the air bags. Tony
started going to car shows in 2017 not long after he got it and that’s where he
ended up meeting a lot of new people. Especially the City Wide Car Club family
that has showed him lots of love. Tony really enjoys the attention that his
Tahoe gets, from just when he is driving it around to him going and being in
the car shows! This 1998 Chevy Tahoe has won Best of Show, Best of Class and as
seen in the picture in the article many other trophies and plaques. He has also
added his own touches to the truck to make it more his, then the previous owner.
Tony has added the clown faces on the back windows. The huge life size clown that
sits in the passenger seat. The Masonic Emblem on the front quarter panels. Tony
is a 3rd degree Master Mason, he is also a Union drywall finisher.
8 | EPM Showcars | Issue3
These two pictures
are a few of Tony’s
own touches he
wanted to put on
the Tahoe. The top
picture is a decal
of the clown he had
chosen to put there.
It adds a nice touch
to the completion of
his ride. The masonic
emblem on the
front quarters of the
Tahoe. Tony had
them made especially
for the Tahoe.
He is very
passionate about
his masonry work
that he does for a
living. The compass
on the emblem
represents the actual
compass,
which means the
way they chart
their course.
Interview with Tony Sexton
1998 Chevy Tahoe "Clwn-en"
Q: What gratification do you get
showing your truck?
A: The introduction to meeting new
people who are car or truck enthusiasts
just like me. The looks and the questions
that I get about my truck.
Q: What got you into doing car shows?
A: Actually my girlfriend “April”, when
she found this Tahoe. I bought it
and went to a car show and immediately
I was addicted!
Q: How many car shows do you do a
year?
A: Well, as many as I can! I also enjoy
being involved in parades.
Q: Are there certain car shows you
go to every year?
A: Yes. All Lives Matter, Low-rider shows,
World of Wheels, Midwest Super Show,
Q: Do you have any other hobbies or
interests?
A: Yes. I collect clowns, antiques and
Q: If money wasn't an object, which car
A: I would like to buy a car with
hydraulics, so that I could make it hop
and dance!
Q: What are your trucks original specs?
A: Engine is a 5.7 ltr V-8 Vortec, 4-speed
automatic and was a 4 wheel drive.
Q: What mods have been done?
A: Engine, no modifications yet. I had the
paint redone, air-brushing on the back,
upgraded headlights, upgraded taillights,
LED lighting, removed 4-wheel drive,
upgraded air bags, added nitrogen tank
coarse my girlfriend “April” for getting me
interested in the car shows! I Love You
April!
Q: Do you have any other show cars or
trucks?
A: No, not at this time but never know
what the future might hold.
interior that has
been kept the
same and also the
custom
car club insignia,
“City Wide”
that he has placed
on the window seal
of the passenger
door. The lower
original 5.7 V8 engine
that came
in this 1998 Chevy
Tahoe. It has a
4-speed automatic
transmission. This
Tahoe gets about
255 horsepower.
The upper picture
is of the custom
speaker box that
Tony built for the
Tahoe. He built it
big enough to hold
2-15” speakers “
super blue’s”. He
wanted to keep it
old school. Also the
nitrogen set up in
the back is for the
airbags he installed.
Makes it easier for
the raising and lowering
of the bags on
the Tahoe.
The lower picture
chosen for his ride.
They are 22” Milanni
rims. It also shows
the masonic emblem
again and the
awesome custom
airbrushing that is
on the Tahoe.
2014 Ford F150
This photoshoot was done in the Crossroads of downtown Kansas City.
We decided to photoshoot this truck in a few different spots. We started
off in the Jack Stacks parking lot by Union station and then we moved
over to an area where there was a closed off bridge. Then we moved to
Kaw Point Park in the freight house district. Then to a parking area
underneath the highway. We feel we captured some outstanding pictures
of this gorgeous F150.
Jamey fell in LOVE with this truck as he was watching it being built
on Instagram. He knew that one day he would be the owner of this Ruby
Red F150. A buddy of Jameys ended up buying the truck once it was built.
Jamey bugged his buddy Oscar so much for him to sell him the truck that
he finally gave in and sold the truck to him in 2017. Once Jamey purchased
the truck he arranged for some work to be done to it down in San Antonio,
Texas where it was located. Then Jamey ended up taking a one day turn around
trip to pick up the truck he had been waiting so long for. After Jamey had
the truck for a little while he made another trip back to Texas to have
some more modifications done to it. During our interview Jamey stated that
his truck is definitely not a trailer queen! He has drove his truck to Houma
Louisiana where his clothing sponsor lives, that is a 13 ½ hour trip. Then
drove from Houma Louisiana to Conroe Texas, which is another 6 hour drive.
Then drove it back to Kansas City, which is about another 11 hr drive and
all of this done in a weeks time. He put about 2,500 miles on the truck
in that one week. Stanley with “Sev7n Apparel” is Jamey’s clothing sponsor
from Houma Louisiana. Jamey advertises for him and he pays for his lodging
and entry fees for the car shows that he goes to. I must say Jamey definitely
has the dedication it takes for doing the certain car shows that he goes to.
He feels that his gorgeous F150 is classified at the bottom of the barrel
in the shows that he does comparing his truck to others that have invested
$100,000 or more in them. Jamey’s truck is definitely not the bottom of
the barrel truck to a lot of people! Jamey makes sure he puts all the time
and effort needed for his F150 to shine like no other! He feels this
dedication, time and money is what is needed to make your truck or car
show worthy. He also feels you need to make it your own creation! His
gorgeous trucks name is “RUBY”. You can also find Jamey and his truck on
instagram as “sorryboutyourneck”
Jamey’s truck
“Ruby” has it’s original
5Ltr V8 engine with
an electronic 6-speed
automatic with OD
transmission. This
gorgeous truck is two
wheel drive and has
an electronic-locking
rear differential, offroad-tuned
suspension for
increased traction for
performance off-road.
As you can see Jamey
does not take this
baby off-road. The
curb weight of this
F150 is approximately
5,160 lbs before the
modifications
that Jamey has done
to this truck.
The truck bed
alterations done to
this 2014 F150
consists of raising
and widening of the
fender wells
for the installation
of the air-bags and
the bigger tires.
Jamey had air-bags
installed which are
Slam Specialties-
2600’s. The
compressors are
485c’s fine air,
full AccuAir air
management.
He had these
modifications done
by Chasis Fab in
Houston Texas. The
air-bags installed
also have a automatic
leveling kit
to assure an even
stance of this
gorgeous truck.
30 | EPM Showcars | Issue3
Jamey has definitely
upgraded the stereo
system in his truck. It
does have it’s stock
Sync3 screen and he
added LC7i 6-channel
line output converter
which allows you
to add aftermarket
amps, speakers and
subs to your factory
system. This convertor
allows you to have
more powerful sound
without loosing
climate controls, voice
activated functions,
or other built in
factory features.
This convertor also
has internal signal
summing which
controls the mids,
highs and to run the
bass at its full capacity.
Jamey had also
installed 6 inch tweeters
in each door and
then under the back
seat he had a custom
Bobby Gately sub-box
installed which has
6-DS18 subs.
The interior of this
truck is the original
factory leather
seats and with
interior color
matched trim pieces
through-out the
truck. This gorgeous
Ruby F150 has the
perfect shine of
color to it and to
make this truck
even more head
turning, Jamey has
selected to run on
black Intro Twisted
Rally rims. He is
running 26x9
on the front and
26x12’s on the back.
Making sure to give
his truck the mean
stance that it
deserves. Then he
added the color
match underglow
and bed low lighting,
installed by Hyperglow
in Booneville
Missouri.
1971 Chevy Chevelle custom
HOT ROD
This photo shoot was done in the Crossroads of Kansas City at 18th and Oak.
So many areas in the Crossroads for photo opportunities. It wasn’t a hard choice
of where were we going to do the photo shoot for this specific car, when we saw the
Chiefs painted on the side of one of the buildings, we knew it was the perfect spot. Jim
and Lisa Crooks purchased this 1971 Chevy Chevelle in August of 1991. They purchased it
from a woman in Grandview Missouri. When they bought the Chevelle the color of it was
green. It was a stock Chevy Chevelle. When they bought it they immediately found out
that they were pregnant. So on that note the Chevelle wasn’t able to get the love that it
needed at that time. They did a few things to the Chevelle and then found out they were
pregnant again. Jim and Lisa said “Family comes first!” Over the years of having the
Chevelle, they did do little things to it as they were able to. Jim and Lisa waited till their
kids were raised and out of the house before they really started bringing the Chevelle to
where it is today. This project is definitely a Labor of Love. Jim stated that the first engine
that was in the Chevelle served its purpose, the engine that is in it now is the second
engine. Man oh man is it an engine! Jim started working on the cars engine about
3 years ago. He wanted to make it as if it was like an 80’s / 90’s Pro Street Car (Blow
Your Doors Off) series which was at KCI when it was open. So the Chevelle has 75% of
the original frame. The Chevelle has front fiberglass fenders and among many other
features to make it as a Pro Street Car. Jim stated that the first time that he drove his
Chevelle he pancaked the headers. So that is when he decided to put QA1 coil overs on
for the front shocks. Jim plans on putting on QA1 rear adjustable shocks, he also has
wheelie bars for the Chevelle too. He also stated that he loves it when he is at the gas
station, the attention the Chevelle gets, especially when they see him pop the trunk to
fill it up. This Chevelle has been in the making for 28 years and they are still adding and
doing things they want to do to the Chevelle. When Jim fires up his Chevelle the rumble
that this car makes just makes you want to keep your eye on it just waiting to see that
burnout! Hearing the power coming from the Chevelle just excites you! You can definitely
tell that Jim and Lisa have put a lot of love in this Chevelle and are going to be giving
it more love. The original specs for this 1971 Chevelle are: Engine 454 big block, 365
horsepower, 4800 lbs of torque. The Chevelle went 0-60 in 6 seconds and went the
quarter mile in 14.3 secs. The wheelbase is 112 inches and the weight was about 4,000
lbs. When emission standards switched to low-lead fuel that cut compression this happened
overnight, it forced Chevy to offer different engines for the Chevelle. A 350 V-8
and also a 402 big block. The cost for this 402 was an additional $173. The 402 has 300
bhp and was named the “Turbo Jet 400”.
ELVIRA
Article by: Yvonne Young
Car Owner: Janelle Jacobson
2012 Chevy Camaro
This photoshoot was done at Wyandotte County Park near the lake. This was a
perfect location for this shoot. With the lake and the trees bringing out the look of
this Camaro. Janelle is the proud owner of this beautiful custom 2012 Camaro. She
purchased this car in 2014. Janelle has always had a love of cars. When growing up
she lived in the country in Wyoming. Which meant there wasn’t many things to do. But
every summer the neighbor boys would buy a car and fix it up. So that’s where she
would be most summers, helping them fix the cars up to sell. S he never minded getting
dirty and learning about the cars. Janelle’s first car was a Plymouth Duster, she always
kept her cars simple daily drivers. Then they came out with the Transformers movie
and she fell in love with the Bumble Bee Camaro. She always thought she wanted the
yellow Camaro. Well one day she was at work and she had to get her oil changed on
the Toyota Corolla that she was driving at the time. One of the guys at the dealership
walked up to her and asked her if she was looking to buy a car? She replied no, I’m
here for an oil change, but if you have a Camaro? It took that guy all of 5 minutes and
he came back with two sets of keys to Camaro’s. One was red with white stripes and
the other one was black with silver stripes. She automatically walked up to the black
Camaro with silver stripes and said this is my car! She was not sure what drew her
to this specific Camaro but she’s glad it did. She was actually kind of scared to test
drive the Camaro because of the horsepower. She has been driving cars that barely
might have 100 horsepower. So she asked him what other cars he had on the lot? He
showed her a 2014 silver Mustang GT. She asked to see the two cars side by side and
that hadmade her mind up for her. She fell more in the with the Camaro! Janelle’s
Camaro has had two different engines. It was at the Chevy dealership and there was
a problemso they put a new engine in it. Janelle’s Camaro had 112,000 miles on it.
Janelle has been showing her car since 2016. The furthest she has traveled has been
to Bowling Green Kentucky for Camaro Fest! “Elvira” Janelle’s Camaro has also
received 62 trophies from different car shows over the years of showing her car.
This Camaro is the 5th generation of Camaro’s. They came with multiple options of
engine size and horsepower. Janelle’s Camaro is an LFX engine, 3.6 L V-6 producing
323 horsepower and 278 Lb-feet of torque.
Janelle has definitely
put her own
touches and
Customization into
this 2012 black Camaro.
She chose to
put 22” Niche
Norberts on this
beauty! Along with
having the calipers
air-brushed with
a graveyard scene.
This amazing airbrushing
technique
was done by Jason
Brookshire in Joplin,
Missouri. When
Janelle decided to
go with the theme
of Elvira her ideas
were limitless. She
made sure she even
did things to the
interior.
Here is the first of
two interior pictures.
Janelle’s twist on
the interior consists
of matching
pink door sill covers
saying Camaro
(bought off of Ebay).
She also custom
ordered floor mats
with the name
“Elvira” on them
from Lyod’s floor
mats. The
dashboard is
trimmed in color
matched paint and
painted by Janelle
herself! Also the tail
lights are trimmed
out in color matched
wrap.
54 | EPM Showcars | Issue3
The interior is the
original seats and
door panels that
came with the car.
The engine is the
stock engine and
she added a K&N
cold air intake.
Janelle has put
her own personnel
ideas for the custom
pieces under
the hood. The strut
brace custom airbrushed
as seen,
the fuse cover, wire
cover and the engine
covers are all
custom airbrushed
with a grave yard
theme by Dalton
Hale. This car is
Janelle’s daily
driver.
It may be hard
to believe seeing
the pictures of this
beauty, this Camaro
was in an accident
and it had to be
re-wrapped. Janelle
sat down and created
the pink color
that the Camaro
was re-wrapped
in. Devin Wells in
ArlingtonTexas
re-wrapped this
Camaro. She calls
the color Elvira pink,
it took her 3 hours to
make the color. The
Camaro also has a
ghost image of Elvira
on the hood, no
one has been able
to capture this ghost
image in a photo
until now. Elton
Hughes has captured
it! Then there
is the Elvira wrap
under the hood created
by Dean Wally
from California.
THE BABY
Article by: Yvonne Young
Car Owners: Lisa and Jim Crooks
Featured Model: Kass Kay
1987 Chevy Monte Carlo Super Sport
Once again we decided to do this photoshoot at the location of downtown Kansas City
at the Crossroads, streets 18th and Oak. We were in the process of the photoshoot for
Jim and Lisa’s Chevelle and we were informed of them having a second show car. Lisa
went home and got her baby and brought her to join the fun.
Lisa and Jim Crooks purchased this Monte Carlo in the Fall of 1987. They bought the
Monte Carlo brand new for Lisa (but Jim started driving it). This 1987 Monte Carlo has
been a daily driver since it was bought. Lisa has used this car for taking the kids to
school and going to the grocery store and of coarse any other places needed to go to.
Lisa fell in love with the look of this year Monte Carlo and couldn’t resist getting it
for herself. She stated that since they bought the car, it has always gotten looks
everywhere that they go. Very fun car to drive! She has always enjoyed the feeling of
having such a beautiful car. Unfortunately the only downfall of having this beautiful
ride is that it was a very easy car to steal. Over the years there had been several
attempts to steal the car. First the t-tops were stolen. Second attempt, thieves peeled
the column but were interrupted by neighbors going to work. Third time (several years
later)they were successful in stealing the Monte. They received the Monte Carlo back 5
days after it was taken. Those who had stolen it, peeled the steering column back along
with messing up the hood, broke out the window to get in, ripped up the backseat to
get to the trunk, messed up the t-tops and burned off the rear tires. When they got the
car back they decided to put a different hood on it for a meaner look. They ended up
repairing all the things that were done by the thieves. Also repainted the Monte Carlo
with DuPont Chromabase which gave the paint job a different look. Lisa and Jim Crooks
really didn’t start showing the car until about a few years ago, when his brother-in-law
invited to a small local car show. Then he was hooked. Them showing the car was hard
to do with work and raising their kids. Family comes first!
The 1987 Monte Carlo is the 4th generation. This year model started production in the
Fall of 1986. It was classified as the shoppers car, even though it was a muscle car.
In 1987 about 40,000 of this model were sold. With the look of the oversized spoiler, cool
wheels and the rakish front end, it received a lot of looks from many people. This beautiful
mid-sized car was phased out in favor of front-wheel-drive cars. The 4th generation
of the Monte Carlo actually started in 1983 and went through 1988, 1987 was the
last year the SS was offered. This Monte Carlo came with a small block V-8 305, with
a spark ignition 4-stroke, 4 barrel carburetor. The horsepower is 180hp with 225 lbs of
torque with a 4-speed transmission. The car weighs in at about 3,300 lbs and can do the
quarter mile in about 16.6 seconds, 0 to 60 in 8.6 seconds. The 1987 Monte Carlo with
the horsepower-to-weight-ratio of 18.2 lbs made the car a bit too heavy for the 305 to
put out what was expected. But the way the Monte Carlo handled was why the car was
praise worthy for most who drove it.
Interview with Lisa and Jim Crooks
1987 Monte Carlo SS
Q: What gratification do you get from
A: We enjoy the pride of having the car
and how everyone looks at the car,
checking it out and telling us how they
would of loved having the car.
Q: What got you into doing car shows?
A: I enjoy sharing the love that I have for
my Monte Carlo with others and seeing
other cars and hearing their stories.
Q: How many car shows do you do a
year?
A: We do about 6 to 8 shows a year. All
of them are outdoor shows so it depends
repainted it.
Q: Do you have any more plans for your
car?
A: We wouldn’t mind repainting it and
giving it a new suspension and possibly
lowering it.
Q: Anything else you would like to add?
A: I would like to thank my husband Jim
for all of time to help me with my Monte
Carlo. Also, Scotty who did the paint job.
passions?
A: I love to sew!
