Veterans News

Attention All Veterans!

The Palm Springs American Legion Post 519 Color Guard is proud to participate and

lead the Palm Springs Pride Parade! Sunday, November 3rd, 2019, 10am-12pm.

The Post 519 Color Guard is calling on all veterans and active duty service personnel

to please join us!

We will have several veterans groups and their affiliations marching in the parade and

supporting our color guard. We will also have a truck and trailer, decorated with flags

and banners following the color guard and marchers. Those veterans who cannot walk

the distance of the parade can ride in the truck or trailer. The Pride Parade is expecting

anywhere between 70,000 and 100,000 spectators along the route running North to

South along Palm Canyon Drive. There are over 8,000 people marching in the parade

representing over 280 organizations. As such, the parade organizers run a tight ship

and ask everybody to follow their instructions. We are contingent number 3 (Three).

If you are marching with us, please show up at the start off point at the corner of Palm

Canyon Drive and Tachevah Dr. (a block west of Desert Regional Medical Center). We

want to take a nice group photo before the start of the parade at 10am so please be there

by 930am. The parade will end at Amado Rd. From there, you will have to disembark

and find your own transportation home. We suggest parking on Belardo Rd. near the

American Legion (400 N. Belardo Rd.) and walking to the staging area. Nobody will be

allowed to ride in the back of the truck or trailer once we have left the parade and disembarked

as per PSPD instructions.

Any questions? Please call Lee Wilson Jr., Post 519 Historian at 760-413-0218

This week Halloween and Palm Springs Pride

for gays does it get better then this?

Halloween on Arenas is a major event

attraction people of all ages form all locations

that love to dress up or just go out and watch

the fun.

Halloween, once celebrated with bonfires and

feasting on apples and nuts and harvest fruits,

was part of pagan worship for centuries. The

Romans celebrated the same kind of festival at

this time in honor of their goddess Pomona,

Christian Church called it a special date for the

feast of All Saints, followed by a day in honor of

her soon-to-be saints, the feast of All Souls.

Begging at the door grew from an ancient

English custom of knocking at doors to beg for

a "soul cake" in return for which the beggars

promised to pray for the dead of the household.

Today Halloween parties are now planned

around the custom of fun and revelry

minute walk from the action include:

• The Downtown Project Parking Garage is

accessible from

North Museum Drive in front of the Palm

Springs Art Museum. Parking is free with a

four-hour time limit.

• Downtown Parking Structure, 275 S. Indian

AdamsArtExpose’ ART

Last week reference was made in this

article that with over 200 creative artists

featured in the 2019 Open Studio Art

Tours it is impossible to give direct

attention to each of these artists. Both

time and practicality would not permit

this. Encouraging readers to partake of

this art adventure next year to find artists

of your own preference would be the

best alternative. For Adams Art Expose'

we have arbitrarily selected 4 artists to

feature. This week 3 of the four artists

will have their work reviewed.

Starting with Sherri Sullivan, Sherri

is a multi-creative artist working with

photographs printed on glass and metal

and also transferred to clothing. Her

primary trade is as a printer, however her

photography, and transfers to T-shirts,

sweatshirts, etc. are also creatively

designed and applied to various

utilitarian devices. Photographs of her

travels throughout the west and locally

are the topics for her work and feature

landscapes and weathered buildings as

well as animals found in the desert from

road runners to lizards. Sherri is also

the Director for Art In Public Spaces

Program for the Morongo Basin.

Sherri Sullivan

Her work can be seen and purchased at

the Joshua Tree Visitors Center and at

Gallery 62. Her contact is sherrisullivan.

com.

Ilona Mercier works with ink drawing

primarily of animals. The drawings

are printed on metal and are available

for purchase in original size some with

unique wood frames that are hand made

by a frame maker and add a special

feel to her work. She also features her

work transferred to greeting cards and

other utilitarian objects. Her contact

is ilonamercierink.com. She also has a

FaceBook website, ArtwithinkbyLona.

The third artist featured is Evelyn Weddle.

Evelyn is a fantastic landscape painter. Her

work is representational of landforms and

buildings with a certain romanticism of

days gone by and a feeling of serenity. She

also has prints of her work available. Her

contact can be found through the Joshua

Tree Art Gallery or JTAG, or Gallery 62 at

gallery62@mbcac.org

These are 3 of the many talented artists

who work along the Hwy 62 corridor in the

Morongo Basin. We are fortunate to have

so many creative, multi artistic individuals

living within this relatively compact and

remote area of the high desert.

Mark Hamill Starts Hashtag To Replace

Trump’s Walk Of Fame Star With Carrie

Fisher at LA comic Con

When the actor tweeted #AStarForCarrie,

leading fans to jump on the bandwagon and

tweet about the late actress’ life and legacy.

Mark Hamill wants President Donald

Trump’s star on the Hollywood Walk of

Fame replaced with one for the late Carrie

Fisher, causing the hashtag #AStarForCarrie

to trend.

We met with Kristin Grady who started

this petition to Hollywood Chamber of

Commerce. Grady started this petition

asking The Hollywood Chamber of

Commerce “5-year-waiting period” rule for

two reasons: Living people have stars

And the main reason is CARRIE FISHER!

She is royalty both on and off-screen, this

honor is LONG overdue. She has applied

to become a member of the Hollywood

Chamber of Commerce and if accepted,

she plans on making positive changes from

within.

Please follow the link below and show the

world gays love Mark Hamill and Carrie

Fisher

THE LAST WORD

Honey, I shrunk the science or maybe

Weird Science, but its here!

I made my money on a phenomena called

Y2K because luck favors the prepared but

often strikes the dull. I was a mid-class

developer making too much to quit but not

enough to live without it. A paltry 6 figures

a year and multi-thousand metric bonuses.

I was on the systems internals of an big

operating system called VMS. Y2K let me

start my own consulting firm and retire at

40.

But the new biggest thing that will hit, will

be bigger than the cotton gin and all the

innovations up to this point in history.

Investors and techies will become rich.

Ironically, it was only when HIV created

massive research and we learned more than

we ever did about viruses and genes.

We learned about replication that destroys

a person's immune system in HIV, which

can be used to increase replication of life

saving genes in some cancers. Cancer work

has helped curtail HIV in to a treatable

illness. Although some that take the

treatment might disagree.

Today we have the same funding delays.

Really, I want to know who fucked all that

up? The minute heath studies became

bigger and bigger, it got political. If there

is no money for cures, then let pull over

the sheet on this nation, it is dead, The

only way to fix Health and gun control is

to fire all of congress. I want this Trump

fool out too, but just fund raising on getting

him out is not the answer if we have no

money to save our lives. Climate may be an

existential threat, but so is premature dying.

The big next thing has already happened

A CRISPR gene editing method by which

the genomes of living organisms may be

edited was announced and improved over

the last decade, but the genes are tiny and

so we fat finger our splicing.

The goal is make any DNA change in

any position of a living cell or organism

including, potentially, human patients with

genetic diseases," says David Liu, a chemist

at Harvard's Broad Institute and co-author

of the new study about a new breakthrough

gene-editing tool, developed by a team

of researchers at Harvard University and

unveiled just last week. This new tool

makes extremely precise DNA edits now

called "prime editing,".

If CRISPR gene editing is like scissors

prime editors will be like word processors,

so easily, we will have home morphing kits

For one, getting the genetic edits into

humans is a challenging prospect. But

scientist are tested two way communication

with virus causing brain cells to glow red

with an intensity that depends on the dose

of the virus. So how far away can be taking

a growth pill, to find and edit specific

DNA, that triggers a growth spurt to make

you a few feet taller or inches longer or any

thing you may want.

Honey, I made myself a kid again. Darn!
