WEBSITE & NEWSLETTER EDITOR
Charlie Fosnaugh
fosnaugh@comcast.net
This month’s message will be short as we are
entering our traditionally slow time of the year for
runs and other activities. I am also writing this in early
October as I will be out of town at the end of the
month when I would normally turn this in to Charlie
for the newsletter. As of this writing, since our
September meeting, we have had only two runs. On
the 29 th of September, Charlotte Renna led some of
us to the Snelling Car Show put on by the Yosemite
Corvette Club. CVC was well represented, it was a
beautiful day, and it was great to see our friend Lupe
Dawson. Additionally, Tom and Marci Jarvis won an
award for their 2008 Corvette Pace Car!
Next up was a lunch run to Shaver Lake led by Mike
and Mary Lou Lebda on October 11 th . It was another
fun day with 12 cars traveling to the 559 Pub for
lunch and then returning to the Lebda’s new home in
Copper River for dessert.
…a word from our President!
Two other events after the October meeting will be
a queen escort at Sanger High on October 18 th and
the Fresno Zoo on October 28 th .
If anyone is thinking of planning a run, November
would be a good time as we have nothing on the
books for that month!
CVC is celebrating an anniversary this month. We
were chartered on November 12, 1991-----happy
28 th anniversary CVC!
Just a reminder that the November CVC Meeting is
our Annual Meeting and voting for 2020 board
members will be an important part of the meeting.
If at all possible, please plan to attend the meeting
and cast a vote for those folks you would like to see
lead the club next year.
Obviously I hope everyone is happy with the club
and that you are planning to renew your
membership! Remember you must do so by the
December meeting (at the latest!) or your
membership will be terminated.
In ending, I would like to make a wish that you enjoy
both a bountiful Thanksgiving and an upcoming
year filled with warmth and cherished moments.
Happy Thanksgiving!
General Meeting Minutes 10-15-19
The General meeting was called to order by Dick
Danielsen at 6:30 PM. Dick opened the meeting
with Kathy announcing an idea for a femalecamaraderie
visit with Lori Dukes at her home on the
back patio. Kathy will coordinate with Lori and
inform those interested of the details.
Secretary – Kathy Marine read minutes from the
September General meeting. The September
minutes were amended (correcting noted
November General Meeting to November Annual
Meeting). Ruthie made a motion to accept the
minutes as amended; LeighAnne seconded the
motion.
Treasurer’s Report - Lynn Henenfent gave the
Treasurer’s report. She also stated $201.00 was
collected in raffle ticket sales. A great haul of cash
Freida collected considering the low meeting
attendance.
VP of Public Relations/Membership – Ruthie
Danielsen announced 4 birthdays and 4
anniversaries for October. Birthday cheers fell eerily
silent since all celebrants were absent from the
meeting. But alas, memories of wedding bells rang
out for 3 out of 4 blessed marriages - Severances,
Henenfent’s, and Garrahan’s. And, just as fast as the
married years rolled by, the pick of the draw was
done; Patrick and Patricia were winners of a $25.00
Yosemite Falls Café Gift Card. Wishes to all for
many more years of togetherness!
Ruthie announced that tonight’s new membership
initiation and badge presentation to Mike and
Jeannie King; and, Mike and Jennie Schwan will be
postponed due to their personal events and
inability to attend meeting. We hope to, once
again, see Mike and Jeannie, and Jennie soon;
keeping remembrances of Mike close in heart. A
card was mailed to Jennie on behalf of the CVC
club. Gail Tavares was given her new badge that
includes her husband’s name.
Ruthie will be mailing an CVC Holiday Party
invitation to Ed Dena to include a guest.
Ruthie reminded members that October was the
last month prior to 2020 Board voting and the
importance of everyone signing-in on the
attendance sheet for voting eligibility.
Ruthie also reminded members to submit their
Membership Renewal form, dues, and Proof of
Insurance – together – by the November Annual
meeting.
VP of Activities – In Mike Lebda’s absence, Dick
informed the members of upcoming runs and
activities. Each run leader gave a brief synopsis of
their run and provided members with any updated
information. See Run/Activity Schedule published
in the newsletter for planned runs or contact run
leaders with any questions regarding their run.
As a follow-up to recently held runs, each run
leader reflected on the highlights for member’s
enjoyment:
Charlotte leaded the way - did not get lost nor did
GPS lead her astray - with 10 cars following her to
the September 29, Snelling Car Show.
Lupe Dawson, who used to host this run along with
her husband Dave, was there and very happy to see
everyone. Lupe had reserved tables along the river
where participants ate snacks, enjoyed each other’s
company and the 150 cars displayed. It was the
largest Snelling Car Show held to date.
Dick described the October 11 Shaver Lake Run,
Mike and Marylou Lebda, hosted. Some cars with
daredevils behind the wheel, took Tollhouse Road, a
twisty-winding road, while some cars that had
queasy passengers took the 4-lane highway. Either
direction was a beautiful drive to Shaver Lake where
we ate at the “559 at the Point” restaurant located
on the shore of the lake. The view at Shaver Lake
was enjoyed, so was the drive to Mike’s and
Marylou’s new home for ice cream treats.
Parliamentarian: Dick asked Charlotte Renna for her
input or comments. Charlotte addressed the club
encouraging everyone to be good member and
participate on the club board and/or activities. She
announced current Board members that agreed to
continue for a second term; Kathy, Secretary; Lynn,
Treasurer; Mike, VP of Activities. She asked
members to step-up and participate in some
manner as there is a potential need to fill two Board
positions - President and VP of Public
Relations/Membership. Charlotte thanked the 2020
Board Nomination Committee: Patrick, Darlene,
Linda. Additional nomination forms were handed
out.
Old Business: Reminder to members to return all
three together: Membership Renewal, Dues, and
Proof of Insurance.
New Business: : Larry and Janet King proposed a
run to Strathmore, CA, where an acquaintance (a
retired teacher) has an Antique Car Museum in an
orange tree orchard. Larry will organize run with a
tentative date of November 23. More details to
come.
Sunshine and Clouds: Linda Laningham, armed
with a microphone, gave members every
opportunity to spill the beans on their life
happenings and events. Most were tight-lipped this
night, except for one who spilled the goods on her
daughter! Don’t worry - your secret is safe with us -
Jill.
Sergeant-of-Arms: Chuck Laningham let out a big
sigh of “oh phewy” when he was unable to
squeeze a single 50 cent out of anyone. CVC
showed their club pride, all were wearing their
badge. To live up to his moniker “two buck Chuck”,
Chuck donated a real $2.00 bill.
Next General Meeting: To be held at Yosemite
Falls Café, October 17, 2019, at 6:30 PM.
Next Board Meeting: To be held at Danielsen
home, October 22, 2019, at 7:00 PM. Members
are welcome to attend Board meetings. Please
inform Club President of your attendance.
General Meeting Adjourned: Linda Laningham
made a motion to adjourn meeting at 7:35 PM.
Diane Hayes seconded the motion.
Respectfully submitted:
Kathy Marine, Club Secretary

5 Mid-engine Corvettes That Weren’t
#2 - 1972 Reynolds Aluminum Corvette
Fast forward to the early 1970s and the idea of a mid-engine Corvette just wouldn’t go away.
The XP-895 was one in a series of experimental Corvettes built to explore alternative engine
placements and chassis layouts. This vehicle features an 400 cid small block V8 mounted
transversely in a mid-engine position. It utilizes a Turbo Hydramatic transmission via a bevel
gear box. The body panels are all aluminum and hidden headlights are utilized to achieve the
lowest possible front profile. Two complete XP-895's were built, one with a steel body, and
this one made of aluminum. The aluminum body was a joint venture between GM and
Reynolds Aluminum. The use of aluminum was intended to demonstrate the practicality of
using this light weight metal for car bodies.
For those of you that were in the club do you remember the party
at Pat and Patrick’s on New Year’s Eve 1999/2000. That was the
night the world was going to end with satellites falling from the sky,
computers crashing, power failing everywhere, no gas or food
available, etc. Came along ways since then. Now it is 20 years into
the new Century. Sign up sheet at the November meeting.
